This is the J. Vs D.V.C. Freakouts he's right yes good morning still to come to live in today I'll be dealing with your consumer. Terry Christian says in the event of job losses people who voted leave should be the 1st ones out the door here your reaction 1st we're going to join Lashley from Milton Keynes now he's a Mr T. Look you may have seen him on Britain's Got Talent The Weakest Link Come Dine With . The slow to talk about. Well when John isn't making public appearances the team star in the world of computer graphics and digital design and on today's program. Once she's appearing has been a blue for the lookalike was. Not for health when it comes to getting office work in his chosen field interesting we'll hear his story in just a 2nd of course I'll take your calls if you want to join the conversation is a perfect person's ethnicity affects their job prospects in your experience here's the number you do want to get involved. You can text as well. 13 double for your. Standard network you can e-mail me here at the B.B.C. J.B.S. At B.B.C. Dot co dot U.K. 08081. B.B.C. 3 Counties radio. start of a new week here on the J.V. Air show I'm Jonathan Vernon's way through the you till 12 today at 11 I'll deal with your consumer problems also a little later on in this hour the broadcaster Terry Christian has caused controversy by saying that in the event of a post of bricks it economic slump bosses should sack people who voted leave 1st rather than those who voted to stay in the E.U. Obviously it's not going to get passed an H.R. Department morally you know it's like if we were on an airplane and some of us vote to switch the engines off then and is only a limited number of parachutes and I don't really think we should go to the people who vote to switch the engines off and let's face it that is what they voted for they said it's going to be short term pain so they'll be happy because in a few weeks time they'll get an even better job and it be sorely opens Well I'm very interested to hear your reaction to that do you agree with Cherry Christian that in the event of Perry's Brix IT job losses people who voted leave should be 1st out the door. One W O W 8 interestingly Terry Christian said that this is already started happening he cites a couple of employees that he knows who've already started doing this and the members of staff that were quite open about the fact that they voted to leave they've gone. Well my question to you a little later on do you have some sympathy with the view that he's sharing or do you think it's absolutely disgusting I write I write one. We'll discuss that later 1st though we're going to meet a man called John Lashley he's from Milton Keynes and John is a Mr T. Lookalike you may have seen him on the likes of Britain's Got Talent the weakest link or even Come Dine With Me you would put your jibber jabber the some of what you talk about sort of. Well when John isn't making public appearances as the A Team Star he works in the world of computer graphics and digital design and on today's program here argue that whilst his appearance has been a boon for his lookalike work he's ethnicity has been a hindrance not a help when it comes to getting office work in his chosen field. Well what on earth has he experienced Let's find out and I'm very interested to hear from you as well do you think a person's ethnicity does affect their job prospects. If you have a view or a story to share John good morning to you thanks for coming home Good morning John how you doing Good morning yes I'm very well indeed thank you so how long have you been a Mr T. Looking like. I think it started all in the late 2009 when I went to one of our runners party in the 21st birthday and I had also spiraled out of control from there right did you go dressed as Mr T. Then unfortunately I did. Not but that was it so did you did you think that you had the potential to look like him. Last time from that day I was kind of dressed up as Mr to I was 4 years old and my mom allowed me to get a Mohawk and during the summer vacation and I was foolish enough to go back to school at that mohawk and a little Mr T. 18 belt and I was the smallest in my class and I got beat up daily. To get it so you since the ninety's have made I don't I don't have do you make a living from it or is it just a bit of pocket money or Mr T. Looking like. It could potentially be a full time career. Most professional lookalikes it's just not what I study for is not what I want to academia and it's not what really interests me I met a lot of amazing people through it it's a grace and the surreal opportunities and you can have a good living from it but it's it's not who I am so what can I mean just to talk about this before we get on to the other work that you know I'm just interested to know as as a look alike what kind of things you can do when we mention the television programs you've had appearances on if I wanted to book you for a party also I mean what kind of things can I book you to do that's the thing is I guess the tagline I was a little like what I. Found out is if you turn up to the event and talk to my friends I say Have you picked up a unicycle yet because most people don't ride the unicycle but technically that's what it is you kind of turn up and you find out fully on the day what you've been before I've been booked and I've had to speak for 15 minutes at cardiologist conventions to showing up to a millionaire's birthday party and his friends prank him and no one turned up and it was just me and him at the party it's a thriller so he spent his birthday just with Mr T. I was thinking about leaving but then I felt really bad I. Had to stick around with the guy but yeah we have awesome time really really amazing to do you ever get all asked to do it I mean obviously things like for people of a certain generation of course they will be lots of people would imagine you don't even know the A.T.M. All that for those of us that very much remember the unloved the 89 the thought of having a policy in for example Miss detail greeting guests at the door or something I mean it's got real novelty factor but do you ever get asked to do things and you say no I'm sorry that's I'm afraid that's going to fall. In When we did Britain's Got Talent it was strange couple of months after our debut we got it in mail request from a cryobank in America asking for donations from the 7 of us which we all turned down because we thought it was too surreal to even think about also you know that was one of the big ones that we still laugh about today what do you mean a cry a bank a sperm bank. Well so they wanted your spam they wanted all 7 of our spareness So anybody you wanted to baby that. Grandfather and I did I'm still scratching my head because I'm often. Pulled into this weird surreal world and all these things pop Oh. Well that does sound beyond So you do the lookalike as as a an addition to your actual profession tell us tell us what do you do as the day job oh well my day job I got 15 years of agency and study experience like leading teams to create little content for marketing campaigns you know business to business health care local councils pretty much lead teams to make cool creative content the usually moving mostly motion graphics but I understand you you feel as if you are at a disadvantage because of your ethnicity tell us about. Well it's a funny one because I come from a mixed race family and my German mom's from Guyana South America so I would say I believe a pretty level playing field there I see both sides but at times when I go into these studios offices for my interview like I went to one. Weeks ago or about a week and a half ago when I walked in and. Around 60 creatives on the main floor they all looked up and they were all Caucasian I'm used to this I get. But this is a company that has around $120.00 employees at that facility overall there are huge worldwide agencies and there that the facility is $121.00 of the downstairs with interview a glass panel walls and Stephanie see through. Over the course of about an hour and a half I saw maybe 3 minorities there missing that's bit of an issue but. It is a little bit daunting you kind of go Well I'm not really the face of those. Versity here you know it's and this happens time and time again but in a field that's creative and says that a creative and open mind and that starts the key the kind of annoys me because it's the creative field so do you do you feel then as if black people or anybody who is nonwhite do you feel as if people are still not not given the same opportunities as white people for jobs in the kind of industry that you work in from it in Simi level positions most stuff not lay It's not as I've said almost almost nonexistent for senior levels creative directors and things that nature. There but it's it's it's rare very rare you would have the junior level positions you have a few minorities. But it's not. It's quite disappointing I mean and then what was able to I was able to show that a bit more was when I saw recruiters video because I went actually stumbled onto the website because I was applying for roles and so on and so forth and I think what the floating fast and everything and the landing video showing the face of creativity and I went around 6 individuals and there was not one even in the background they did at the end of the blurred effort that was blurred and even the people walking in the background with our faces didn't have a. Diversity but but I guess he is the counter-argument to year you've observed these things you've been given the opportunities you've been given the interview will put unities you've been given the chance to go and what we've companies on your back ma'am so maybe it's not anything to do with skin color maybe it's either to do with their own has many people working in your industry or it may be just about the best people get the job and it's nothing to do with skin color. I can see the argument can be raised for that but it's a it's it's very strange not much stranger than what you're saying but it could be said and most every area there have been things put in the place where US are minorities are protected and you know there's a certain amount of people who need to come in an interview to show that that's that's happened that there isn't any type of bias but unfortunately statistics or reflect that. So in terms of your or your working life at the moment. Are you busy are you working for companies or do you feel as if your ethnicity is holding you back at the moment for full time employment to become the face of the create a space of organization yes unfortunately I believe it is holding me back for freelance I am quite as a delivered my hard drives a little my media and I do have a decent amount of close friends who are also clients yes they know me for example they know me from the creative person that I can deliver and the content I can deliver so they trust me in that way I presume when you go for jobs in your day job and you have to forgive me John I haven't seen how you look when your not being Mr T. But I presume you. Dress dismissed. When I start doing the Mr T. Thing I was also part time lecturing. And I did the forensics years and most of my students to now and what was their parting gift when they were leaving and I for the last last week I think the graduating students were leaving I put on the Britain's Got Talent. And I kind of watched their brains break you know when they realized I missed it as my lecture So yeah I don't look like Mr T. At all good talking to you John thank you very much indeed for your time Jon Lashley who is a Mr T. Impersonator who feels a someone working in the professional sector working in digital marketing and on that kind of industry he feels as if he's ethnicity does holding back and holds very important holds other people back as well do you think that's true does a person's ethnicity affect their job prospects in your experience. As ever if you wish to get involved I'd love to hear from you the sound the B.B.C. 3 Counties radio. I do. Think you 3 Counties ring I should just make sure. The live in Westminster as we speak some breaking news for you dismounting a number of Labor M.P.'s are announcing that they are leaving the Labor Party due to what they argue is the total failure to eradicate what Labor M.P. Luciana Berger has called institutional anti semitism and we also are able to confirm for you that the Lucian South M.P. Gavin shukra is a monk's the 7 M.P.'s who have stood down from the Labor Party I believe they all are still remaining as M.P.'s but they are remaining now as independent and pays rather than members of the Labor Party I'm sure reaction to that news will continue throughout the day here on B.B.C. 3 Counties radio I was talking to a very nice man called Tom. Joan last Lashley from Milton Keynes who is a Mr T.V. Lookalike. As a kind of sideline but he's main job digital material for marketing that kind of thing and very much office based He feels as if he's a necessity holds him back and holds very important he holds all the people back from achieving and getting the best possible jobs that are out there I just wonder whether you can identify with that experience or whether you think it's suing Winslow Good morning to say that running J B S Well my left England in a case for Australia he joined a very well known media company and I was transferred to Hong Kong where he was very happy and he decided that he would like to settle that but he also saw that he would like to upgrade his job so here plight for various jobs in the world and that he was particularly interested in invited him for interviews I'm talking about barely 9 kids I guess and he went for 3 interviews and at the end of the final interview he was informed that you are perfect for the job but there's one side problem and so course maybe having been told he was perfect for the job he wanted to know what the problem was and he was just told us in the wrong color. And I understand he was absolutely shocked what what sort of this is your son yes my son what he says ethnicity what he's Why didn't he was in Hong Kong so he because he's a white man he was told that he wasn't able to get the job yet he was told his skin was their own color for the job and but that was in Hong Kong I mean surely I would like to think that the same kind of thing doesn't happen in this country I well I would hate it to happen in this country but because he was being discussed I just felt it prudent to make a comment that this is how did actually happen to myself and another country we know that around the world there have been terrible cases of racism of prejudice and we I mean this weekend for example I watched the film green book if you've seen it. It's incredible our recommend it turns you on to go watch incredible when you look back in time around the world all kinds of horrible racism used to exist but here we are in 2019 in Great Britain and the fact that the fact that I'm being told people all still held back because they skiing Cala I mean it's outrageous if that is true in 2019 it's outrageous I think it had to really get for can I relate an experience I had laid back in 1964 yes I'm not Michel and I was teaching in a school in Boston ship and it was a time away barking U.K. Labs and walking U.K. Power station was very much to the full number of people were coming over from abroad to join the company we had the most delightful 2 Nigerian boys in school and they were playing absolutely everything and you know it used to upset me so much when I get. poor well paper all and skidded tell the i thought sake but async a pull that she me it's well must thing else ok so you thank you very much indeed if you wish to share any of the various discussions we have you can drop me an show up b.b.c.
