It is more than sorrow of the worm but before hits and headlines we're going to talk to 3 of the U.K.'s most celebrated female singer songwriters the brilliant Beverly Craven Judi's you can judge for them because they just released a new Christmas record and it's in aid of a deaf children's charity auditory verbal u.k. Or the u.k. For short of a charity teaches deaf children under the age of 5 to learn to listen and speak through highly specialized ordered 3 verbal therapy now last year Beverly Judy and Julia released an album together called Woman to woman they went on to a man Beverly at the end of the year underwent a double mastectomy and had cancer treatment but thank fully she recovered toward again in the spring and joining us now from London Julia how are you I'm wonderful thank you I'm in the Christmas spirit it was wonderful to walk around London and see the Christmas decorations everywhere I'm really on board I love it so how did this single come about because it's really Beverly wrote it and then she presented it to you. Yes What happened was that Beverly was actually approached by a charity called auditory verbal u.k. And they are a charity that support profoundly deaf children and they asked better she might consider writing some sort of Christmas song and before she knew it she had this wonderful idea come to her and the result was this splendid song called Christmas Day She then sent it to mean Jude and we both absolutely loved it and agreed that we could do an absolutely wonderful version that would complement the song with our woman to woman blend so my longtime collaborator Grant Mitchell did a beautiful arrangement in production and then we even had the kids from order to verbal some of the kids from that charity singing at the end so when they 1st entered I actually really liked her simple production and it sounded wonderful and you know we've often taught the girls that sometimes when you bring in a. Fresh pair of ears and Grant Mitchell in those An extraordinary arranger and producer he took it to this really heightened level I think with this beautiful de luxe all Vaio Disney almost like that beautiful not style Jack romantic Christmas I mean mediately feel like you're being swept into a fifty's color movie as soon as it starts Grant said to me I've got this 5 to do a Disney style waltz with all the strings and the orchestra and I said Ok and I thought we were going to do it together sort of envisage just in the studio working on it together I said well when she we get together you know and do it and he was alone. And next thing I knew he'd sent through this literally a Disney you can imagine beauty in the beast so waltzing around an opulent ball and to this song and I just immediately called him up and I said Grant you are a genius. Beverly like the way that when Judy wrote safe with Beth Wilson Chapman she made a list of all these ways that she wanted to feel and in the same way Beverly did the same with all the fantastic memories and images of Christmas they just wrote down all the words that they wanted to feel because they'd been through a couple of tough years and then they strung them all together and so I thought well I'll use that technique so I literally wrote all the words I knew and then I went online and I found a few more and then strung them all together and then I realized actually the song was too complicated for such young children to sing too wordy and it was just too much so then we thought well why don't we just have them singing on the courses at the end and we'll do it as a woman to woman thing because we've just been on tour obviously and a bit more of a Hayden press so I said Look goes you know do you fancy doing this and do you just . Carry Let's hear the record by Beverly grave and Judy and Julia Fordham and this is good Christmas day. So we think of it as no I think it's terrific. Chris. Anderson. It's. Gonna. The 1st play on b.b.c. 3 counties worthy of Christmas Day by my guest Beverly Craven Judi's who can Julia Fordham 11 profoundly deaf children and their siblings on the track along with people some brushwood Junior School in Newtown infant school in Chesham and I hear they recorded their parts at your house Beverley with their parents as well I had 60 people in my kitchen and my boyfriend had gone out and bought a load of snacks and treats for them so they were all bouncing off the walls small groups of kids into the studio so they could all crowd around the my and then Grant Mitchell he put them all together so they. Sounded like a choir and then the kids were running into the garden as well I was concerned that there wasn't a trade in dog. And bring it back into the house you know it was a good day some of them got a bit shy at the last minute. And the parents were gutted but then at the end they'd always leave been primed by their parents or you know going to go to play and it was called Promise me and tell how much she liked the song These are 4 year olds come in and I think yeah you don't know my so you know standing there and she Mai-Ling with the lead it was a big day and they have these cochlear implants these units on the backs of their heads they can hear in the same way that we do but it does something to sound to make it possible they don't sound like deaf children when they talk and they can sing but they have to have these implants done between the ages of sort of $2.00 and $5.00 the younger they are the more effective they are but that's the point of the charity is to raise awareness they're very excited about this Christmas Day cd not just from the point of view of raising funds for the charity but more importantly awareness because the younger you get children with cochlear implants the more effective they are never written a Christmas song before my manager always used to be on at me for years maybe she'd write Christmas song Christmas song and I just never had the vibe to do it and I just thought you know what I could actually give it a go it's a great song I love it it really works it really is and we've not had really any member new Christmas record in the last 510 years that we part from a photo every Christmas on woman to woman. That was that you know this statement. Was thank you for it I think there is another one actually by some good Harriet which I wrote with her called maybe this question just in case you might like to hear another one she's got a lovely Christmas song and we wrote that song on it we're here to plug this. This is a terrific song I just was like it's crazy to get it out it's helping us. But I really think it's a Christmas cracker classic and I just can't even cope with the world not hearing it and so you know less I really believe it so the success of the Christmas single Christmas Day could well lead to lots of openings and opportunities over the next 12 months and I sincerely hope that it does in Delhi growing job is a really good record Beverley Craven Julia for them and Judy Zick thank you as ever for your time for coming on the radio today really good to talk to you thank you thank very much about that than a Christmas cracker classic that's not easy to say either and the girls have made a video as well and they're hoping therefore to make some money for the charity Odio verbal u.k. Of u.k. You can see the video by going to the Web site w t w live dot com That stands for women to women doubly t. Doubly live dot com The record is available now as a download and on cd from tomorrow now Judy mention Harriet a singer songwriter from training who was at school with my oldest daughter as a matter of fact Harry was a guest last week on Nick coffee's show.
