By West Midlands police by 2021 as part of the drive they'll also gain a degree from Stanford University it will take the number of offices employed by the force up to more than 6 and a half 1000 that's around 800 fewer offices than a decade ago that So Assistant Chief Constable C Soudan says they have to be clever with their resources place stuff into post directly Hellboy police officers alone so at the technology all of that means our officers actually toy out on the streets is far greater because of the blended mix of the way in which we now deliver our service a letter written by the parents of a 5 year old girl from Birmingham he was badly burned in a fire has gone viral and at Elizabeth Sufi's parents urged people to stop their nasty comments and hurtful behavior towards their daughter she was burned when she was just 6 months old in Qatar where they lived but then moved to King's Heath has her dad lay in when we came here she was in a coma she spent a few months in the children's hospital here in a coma but she is amazingly determined resilient. Really happy little girl. And she you know is no at the point where she realizes people are staring under a passenger group says Annie rail timetable introduced to many in the West Midlands isn't working in some parts of the region transport fakers say they've heard complaints about increased levels of delays and cancellations It comes just 12 months after a similar timetable change in other parts of the country descended in chaos and a cloud is from the great what is important though to be fair to West Midlands trained to kill are they are listening to passengers they're reviewing the peak areas that they know there are problems and they are looking for solutions a large fire involving household wastes been tackled in all 3 this morning West Midlands fire service was called out of the waste disposal site run by Bertha at around 630 and I.T.V. In fact Newseum has described it better than I could ever there's one with a fork across the entire sky that is a really freaky science fiction type of bolt all purple and blue throughout the clouds that is the most remarkable Well one of the most remarkable did you just stand outside just taking photos randomly because how do you know when it's going to when you're going to see the lightning and where it's going to be I don't understand some of the pretty Stephen Wright has also emailed me some fabulous photos on guys listen if you want those photos published let us know because maybe a little is today might be looking for these rather dramatic photographs so let us know e-mail me them 0808 want double 0 double 956080812 below double 956 this morning we're joined by the West Midlands conservative on the street who's going to be answering your questions or a whole lot to talk about from homelessness to cleaners owns to Boris Johnson but we would love to hear from you of course and it's that free phone number again Oh wait oh it won't go below double 956 I think I'm going to be cracking my neck this morning he's over there all by far right good morning on Good Morning to you that a lot to me here it's been a while well it was a celestial you let me just move the screen it's been a while with you but your organization has me in here for breakfast pretty regularly. This organization been great supporter at the role of the man Oh good Boris Johnson you know him. Yes about a couple of meetings with him in the last month since this all the paid to be going this way I think is not just teams that really need to get together to want to one's privately and they've actually been really encouraging meetings and so what did you talk to about I talked about the things that mattered in the West Midlands I wasn't really frankly interested who I was going to vote for in a leadership campaign my job is to get the best out of the new government in the West Midlands so we talked about high speed trains us big dick and we talked about the importance of the automotive industry in particular the electric part the automotive industry and we talked about investment in. Our own local transport here so what we were really saying to virus is we need your help but actually the west minutes can help you Boris because this is a place that really can do great things for the U.K. Overall how can the West Midlands help you think to answer that it can grow fast economically as it already is so it can almost be in a sort of example to the rest of the country and it can also be on the we were really saying to it can be on the cutting edge of technology producing a new Britain if you think of the whole electrification of the automotive industry we actually met the day of the jail our announcement to council Bromwich we were saying this is probably the best example in the whole country of how we're engaging in technology thinking about the new future back us make more of a success of it how do you feel about high speed Yeah that to be honest and that's why I wanted to see because the things that he'd said in the sort of run up to the campaign were pretty negative weren't that things he'd written in the Telegraph but he is clearly moved his position and what he has said is that he will review High Speed 2. By December he's not in any way going to hold up the works until December so we press on with all the proprietary work that we're doing and he actually said in a public meeting that it would be very easy for him to claim that he wanted to scrap it but he was not going to do it because he understood the case for investment in infrastructure so to be honest I think he's moved his position and I thought it was fair so he confirmed he's not going to scrap No I did not say that I said it would be easy for him to have said during the campaign there were lots be blunt about it lots of conservative members whose votes he was seeking it would probably have been quite popular with conservative members in the southeast but he made a real point that he was not going to say that because he understood the importance of North-South connection so so I suppose OK so I suppose once he once he gets his feet under the table you can go back to London and ask him for a definitive answer on that couldn't you exactly and to be fair he has said we will get a definitive answer by December and actually who ever had become prime minister this was all in the press at the weekend there were obviously story. About how the project is currently over budget they would have needed to review the budget and done something very similar so we're absolutely gauging that and if you want me to prophesied the future this will go ahead you think so yes I do because the economic case for it is very good and we've talked to him about how it's already creating jobs in Birmingham and the rest of the West Midlands how it's sort of driving the property market forward here which is on the whole good and of course how it will link the whole country together and we know that when the countries link better it can actually do more business across the country so I think he will see that and will get approval by December while OK May I ask you Did you vote for him or did you vote for Germany didn't you may ask me and you were the 1st to ask actually and I will give you a straight answer so I personally voted for Jeremy and the reason for that which I'm sure is the next question is that you might have seen a few weeks ago I laid out what I called the sort of 7 things I was looking for for all a new leader one was around H S 21 was around dealing with dealing with the risks of no no no deal breaks it and I actually thought that Jeremy aren't that those questions better but to be really clear that was my personal vote what I did not do is sort of lobby on either side publicly and ever is now elected my job is to deal with them on behalf of the West Midlands What was it about what Boris Johnson did or didn't say that worried you but we've already talked about one thing the HAS TO situation actually he's readiness to accept a no deal in terms of leaving the what were you Laura said let's be clear about this so always said we have got to leave we had the referendum the government's job is to implement the will of the people but how we leave is really important and if you look at all the research this region stands to lose from a no deal breaks it because we are the manufacturing capital of the U.K. With the exporting capital of the U.K. And our companies will find it more difficult to trade as they have done if we do not have a deal so I. Fervently hope that will leave be but the deal will be struck and Jeremy was more reassuring on that and the anything else that I should ask you about what worries you about Boris Johnson Those are those don't those 2 things with the 2 things those are the 2 things OK We've been told about personality and charisma with Boris Johnson this morning and Donald Trump saying that he's a British equivalent of Donald Trump without a doubt indisputable I would say that Boris Johnson has as far as I know mainstream politicians he has the most charisma I've seen in the long time is the charisma going to help him in politics do you think was going to end right is really interesting question so categorically yes it will help him and one of the reasons that I think actually the country is. On the part of the Conservative Party certainly excited about him coming there's a bit of trepidation for some of the reasons I've already said but actually this sort of notion that someone of this sort of bravery who spar as him he just might be able to do things that have eluded others so I'm sure it is a key part of his attractiveness OK as far as the or potential your reelection that's in May 2020 going to stand for that and the So again quite a scoop I'm sorry Danny I will stand again but technically it's not just up to me it's obviously up to members of the Conservative Party across the West Midlands to decide if they want me to do that so I said yeah I put my name forward again but during September we will go through our process just to select again just as frankly the other challenges will as well what about if you were offered a safe seat or a seat maybe potentially in the in the snap election and sort of that A I don't think it's not election is going to happen and it's been a lot of talk about this and I cannot see how how we can go to the country before the break is resolved so I don't think that's going to happen not that that was your question NO BULL about it but interestingly one of the issue is potential. He delayed he may have to go to the country and if you were then offered a yeah a suit so OK again I don't think that's the way this an hour I will play out because that would be even more difficult territory for the prime minister but anyway that's not the question the straight answer question is no. I have. For the last 30 years I've been interest in politics spend all my time in Janice is a business person never wanted to move into being an M.P. And I stepped out of journos to do this particular political role I'm enjoying it we're going to hear in a bit what some people think of it but I do not want to move on from this wrong you mention the word prophecy earlier on did you was released in May Do you think now is the right time to bail out a John Lewis because I know they're struggling in the last financial year or 2 where they start to struggle was that a prophecy from you missed the street. No actually if you look at the few years as the last few years when I was them they were done pretty well profit was fairly stable and I did not predict what has happened I did know that the retail market would be getting tougher but frankly down it wasn't about that it was about done 10 years in jail knows I genuinely believed it was time for someone else to do it because you can get stale in a in a row and I also believe that there was a real opportunity to lead the West Midlands that was a little push from London and John Lewis and a big big pot to do this job here OK Let's get some calls on the line let's get some questions fired off to 0808 Want to the low double 956 I've got a lot of questions if you've got a question then you can pick up the phone and you can ask and the Yourself Oh wait oh wait I want to follow double 956 Peter nerds who wants to get the ball rolling the moment yeah good morning good morning good morning yes my chick just just just 2 things I got a question but the 1st tonight it's another reason why I never vote because you think that is Johnson those who are retiring or get on to my question. So the only 3 for the series which are one of the knowledge mentioned at which all my life what you think you've gone to help the people of this if you know the rich people NOT 1000 shops and. What a result for the noise for the sake of us. Ordinary working people and you haven't done what you said because you haven't got. The Straight Story You know when the election manifesto things you haven't done it so what you think you don't but. I think the most important thing I've done for people like you and indeed as you say ordinary working people who are perhaps coming on to the working market is make sure that there are jobs for those people that is the single most important thing the other thing that's going on actually which links to that is actually making sure that we are training people better so that they can get jobs in the future in the stats are very clear statistics very clear around that if you look at the qualifications been achieved by people in this region not grand people going off to university but just how many people are getting practical qualifications the numbers are improving all the time and so those things the jobs are there the qualifications there that's what will enable people to have good livings in the future how many jobs are you responsible for being created so let's be clear I don't believe any politician actually creates the job themselves or directly answer to P.S. Question I got you know what I knew of you asked you asked in slight different way but the actual numbers to come to it there are 38000 more jobs in the West Midlands now than they were 12 months ago we just had those numbers last week so all I was saying was I don't create them businesses create them but I'm absolutely sure they're doing the right things for economies help those businesses ph question forgive me was one of you don't know you're talking more generally about the economy and business is what have you done but the problem is the political leadership does actually drive the economy so let's just be really clear about 11 really practical thing he said news recently was about the investment by our customers from extract that's 2700 I think jobs there so I have been the person who has been absolutely in the ear of the government business department business secretary to say you have got to give that loan to Jack you're Landrover of 500000000 pounds to secure their exports for the future now I didn't have to step into that but I'm absolutely the person who's done it and I'm absolutely sure that is a brilliant example of why that then gives confidence to drag. Your Landrover to make the investment decisions that they have you saying that you unilaterally got in the loan I didn't say I mean that's the you know it's not 2nd time you still listening to that he's not here at night and I just put in a night you haven't answered your question and you say you didn't because you signed Invesco that investment would acromion anyway because people one might Monnerie and want to make money out of a region and don't get me started on why is your. Job just talking about it and their jobs are being created because people have gone to. Foreign creepily doing great jobs but the colonel could press it for you have not created one job and you haven't answered my question what I did Tony for people like Larry not think actually let's just continue on the jobs line I just totally disagree with you Pete I think I'm being entirely honest in saying businesses that actually employ people not politicians but what politicians do is make sure the businesses are able to make those investment decisions and I've given you a brilliant example where I have personally been involved in the discussions that has led to jail are taking that decision and that will secure the jobs of 2500 people in the Castle Bromwich plant without your personal intervention would have got it. I don't know the answer to that question that is to be entirely honest what to do know is that I was absent or saw the opportunity and made it my job as I was said I would champion the West Midlands to make sure the business secretary got that money out of Treasury and I think that's exactly what I should be doing OK Oh I want to blow double 956 thank you Pete Barber is unnerving to Barbara good morning you're through to want to. Go on E.N.D. And after denoting temper a long time now and then teenage years I'm sure you know it's gone down a lot we're having a meeting tonight at Bonobos church 7 o'clock because I believe we're getting hopefully getting 16000000 pounds to improve the image. I don't know if you know I do know about it you're referring to the government's future high streets fund actually yes that's what it's about. Well. It would be nice if we could spend a bit of money on pavement. You know tidying up well that's what the money potentially could be spent on and yeah exactly so what this is about it's a competition actually between there are hundreds of places across the U.K. That actually applied for this money and the 3 places in the West Midlands that have gone through to the finals generalizing competition language is Warsaw and will be Hampton city centers so I was very keen to support all of those bits actually and hopefully give a bit of advice as to their content and we have to win that absolutely but we should be optimistic as we've got a good bid and then that will be used to improve the physical conditions on the High Street which of course should drive retail in more people coming
