It was horrible seeing people dying. All that was happening. Right now it is very well. The shooting has stopped. Are you comforted that the future is going to be good for ukraine . Do you think the politicians understand . We still need time. We still need time to reload our government, our parliament. We cant say its stopped now. We still have a lot of work to do and we still need to do a lot. So its not its a little victory but not a victory yet. So how do you feel about the last week . Are you confident of the future now . Yes, im confident. Absolutely. It is the first step. Ukrainians proved they are more than a democratic family. What about the parts of the country, though, who still remain loyal to yann coffeeive, the parts of the country who look towards russia. Indeed, do you think russia should help now allowing ukraine to have that full independence . We should help ourselves. We will have different parts of the country. Ukrainian People Living in different parts of the country. We are one nation and one country. It doesnt matter who is where. We are one country and one people. Thank you both very much indeed. They have been tracking his movements around the east of the country, although yesterday he turned off all communication so he couldnt be tracked. He asked his body guards who wanted to stay and who didnt. Half wanted to stay and handed weapons. Others left with him in three cars. No sign has been seen of him since then. Yanukovych has a house in donetsk. He was born close to the city where we are now in southeastern ukraine, a couple hours drive from the russian border. He was govern on her of this region a decade ago. And this is one of his many homes in the ukraine. A huge gated complex. Call me naive. I think there are worse places to see where he is. Lets go and check if theres any response. Surprise, surprise. Nobody at home. It is predominantly russian speaking. Whoever tries to lead this country forward will have the huge task of trying to unite a polarized nation. In the meantime, the hunt for Viktor Yanukovych goes on. This is a country about to go bankrupt unless it gets a huge injection. You had three european Foreign Ministers at the center of brokering that deal that in essence wasnt meant to lead to president yanukovychs ouster but did set the ground for that. Now, today you have the eu top Foreign Policy official Catherine Ashton in kiev right now spending today and tomorrow meeting the new guard, if you would like in ukrainian politics to discuss with them stabilizing the situation politically and also economically. But there will be, according to russia, penalties if ukraine goes in that direction. The russians have already said ukraine will not be getting the several billion in handouts that russia was about to hand over. Russia wants to see what government ends up being in ukraine. Essentially, with the americans saying they are most likely not going to get involved in directly handing over any money to ukraine and with ukraine needing this year some 13 billion just to repay its foreign debts, its been estimated it requires a bailout of some 20 billion this year to try to stabilize the economy. The eu, with its partners, needs to step in. Now, i talked just a few moments ago to Catherine Ashtons spokeswoman who said the eu is working very quickly at the moment with the International Monetary fund, reconstruction and development and others to try and see what funding might be able. But they will have to agree to stringent Economic Reform Program. You would assume, i would have thought, tim, they wont be trying to force economic reform on to ukraine right now partly because the political vacuum but also of course because any Economic Reform Program brought in now, which would be difficult for people, would possibly add to the difficulty of a political situation as well. Okay. Matthew price in brussels, thank you very much indeed. The parliament trying to form a government of National Unity by tomorrow. People adamant they want a new Brighter Future for ukraine. Signing the bill, the president said the issue of homosexuality had been provoked by arrogant western groups. Lets bring in catherine who has been following events for us. Catherine, cheering government ministers. Clearly a popular measure then . Yes. As soon as the president put pen to paper, there was a cheer in the room. You had officials. They were extremely happy. Scotland is getting ready for a referendum on whether it should be independent from the rest of the uk. Now, that is a huge issue. Its been causing plenty of friction with the British Government not least today as cabinets from both sides meet separately in scotland to discuss one of the major battle grounds of the campaign. Theres the issue nationalists. Its all about north sea oil. Both want to be in charge getting the most out of whats left with the oil and gas reserves. Could be 40 years worth still. The uk has already had a chance. Now its scotlands turn. Still another 40 or 50 years. We see the example of norway. Now to norman smith. I guess the question north sea oil is about as immotive as it gets in a way, isnt it . It is an absolutely critical question for the scots thinking do we or do we not vote for independence. The argument is there will be many more jobs and they will be much more profitable if scots stay in the uk. Why . The uk government can invest an awful lot more in terms of tax breaks and tax incentives for countries to invest in the north sea. In other words, the industry can be much more profitable. That is a theme we have seen develop in recent weeks, which is to argue people will be better off financially staying in the uk. He questioned whether an independent scotland would be allowed to keep the pound sterling. He said, no, they wouldnt. It raises all sorts of question marks, would Interest Rates go up, playing to the same argument designed really to appeal to the Purse Strings of voters rather than heart strings. Thank you very much, indeed, norman smith in aberdeen for us. Severe smog is smothering many parts of china that.
