The Prime Minister visits survivors in hospital following criticism of her not meeting residents at the tower block yesterday. We are in west london where the number of people known to have died in the Grenfell Tower via has risen to at least 30. The police say they believe the highest total will be higher. There has been dramatic scenes outside kensington and chelsea town hall. Protesters chanting we want justice chelsea town hall. Some of the people now taking that message directly to the Borough Of Kensington and chelsea. It looks as though the council doors are closed and locked. 0ur Correspondent dan johnson is outside kensington town hall. Lets return to him now. Those doors werent closed and locked. There was a set of doors open and quite a few people were able to get in through the front doors of the offices of kensington and Chelsea Council. They we re kensington and Chelsea Council. They were inside for quite a time. Maybe 100 people. At one point, the crowd pulled back and were read a statement from the council but most werent happy with the response they got from kensington and Chelsea Borough Council this afternoon and some have gone back towards the doors to try to get back in again. In the last half hour, Police Officers have arrived to try and get them out of the office for ea. Some we re them out of the office for ea. Some were able to get up to the first floor, we believe. A scene of. The council came back with a very flimsy response. The people werent satisfied with the answers. The head of the Communications Department said he would come back with something further but he has not yet done so. People were getting frustrated and came back towards the building. We had a whole group of Police Officers in high visibility jackets, as soon they walked in, they created a barricade. That lead to physical confrontation between police and some of the youth here. Have you seen people arrested . have not seen people arrested but there has been a lot of pushing and shoving between police and the public. It was all good until the police came in and created a barrier. But people did force their way into the Council Offices. That wasnt your plan. Absolutely not. They did not force their way in. They did not force their way in. They demanded answers from the council instead of a written statement. What are your demands . What is the priority that the council hasnt come up with . We need to know how many people were in the building during this tragedy. We need to know what the council is doing to make sure this tragedy does not repeat. People are calling for a criminal investigation so that those behind the £10 Million Contract in refurbishing this building that has led to this tragedy. It is clear that people have felt let down and that people have felt let down and that the council hasnt responded quickly enough. We have had no response from the leader of the council orfrom response from the leader of the council or from the borrower or cheese Chief Executive s of this council. We would like commitments on what the council is going to do for the victims of this borough and for the victims of this borough and for all the victims. They have said that there is a Emergency Accommodation available. There will be temporary accommodation available and people will be re homed within the borough or as close to. Is that not good enough . The people are demanding that they be relocated within the borough. The council is not willing to make that promise to say that people will be relocated within the borough. The phrase that the council is using is that they will do what they can to relocate people as close as possible and they are not help happy with that. this all about broader issues of inequality that people feel. Absolutely. We are in the richest borough in the uk. Within this very borough in the uk. Within this very borough we have some of the very poorest people and the Safety Measures are totally inadequate. The council quickly spend £10 million decorating the exteriors of the building to make it look more Pleasa Nt Building to make it look more pleasant for the rich neighbours. The General Public have had enough and they are frustrated, not only about what is happening in the borough but countrywide we have seen the inequality between the rich and the inequality between the rich and the poor constantly increasing. Theresa may failed to go and talk to the families and members of the community who have suffered from this tragedy. That is why people are upset. She has met some of the injured today in hospital. She may have done so but she did not meet the people, the families of the victims. Where does this go next . I have no clue. I hope we maintain peace and order here. We need Firm Commitment from the council as to what they are going to do. Concrete numbers of finances that are going to be committed. The Council Backing for a public investigation into who are behind the tragedy. Specifically demanding to know the contractors behind the building contracts, what happened there. It will not get to what the people want. We have had previous public enquiries and the outcomes have not been satisfactory. This year, they were fined, they were prosecuted by the London Fire Brigade and fine, i think, it was £570,000. The guilty councillors and officers didnt pay that. That was added to the rent bill of the te na nts added to the rent bill of the tenants and Peoples Council tax. So those who should have taken responsibility didnt do so, youre saying. Who is to be held accountable for the deaths in that tower. It has nothing to do with religion. It has nothing to do with islam. No one has said that. Islamic state about violence. It is about peace. Why do we have to go and look actively for them . Why do they make is called Family Members . There is no action. It is made by someone on other peoples car. We live in the modern world. Why is it carried out like this rest are it doesnt make sense. We just need the Public Authority to come here and say exactly what the procedure is. Not someone in the westway, or in this hospital. You want them to come and talk to you directly. We need the public authorities to come here. Will you stay until you get that . Of course. We are not leaving until they come out and give us answers. If they were not guilty, why are they hiding . In the beginning is started with peace. Everybody was standing and marching together. When we heard that the police were letting them out through the other door, that is when we became angry. Why are they hiding from us . They are hiding the truth. You get a sense of that anger. It has boiled overfor some of them sense of that anger. It has boiled over for some of them who have gone straight into the council to take the message directly to cancel officials. The police are stopping them from doing it again. Height a few people saying they will stay until they get the chance to address cancel officials directly to tell them that the response they have had is not good enough. They say the responses and quick enough, there hasnt been enough information quick enough, there hasnt been enough money made available for the families affected. This has opened up families affected. This has opened up issues about inequality and the wealth and poverty that exists side by side in this borough. Deep running issues that have existed for many years that have boiled over because of what has happened this week. Very serious issues to be dealt with this week. Its going to be very competitive.
