hello. for some of us, it is another day of blue skies and sunshine and some very high temperatures, particularly across scotland and northern ireland. a beautiful morning at portpatrick in dumfries and galloway, but for others there have been some big changes afoot in the last 18 hours. frequent thunderstorms, torrential rain. this was portsmouth earlier on this morning and there are more thunderstorms to come in the days ahead, all driven by this area of low pressure. further north, the pressure is higher across scotland and northern ireland, here the best of the sunshine and higher temperatures today, but further south we have a thunderstorm warning from the met office, mainly across southern england and south wales. more of these to come both through today and into tomorrow. this is what happened through the early hours of the morning. the yellow and red colours indicating the frequent lightning strikes and boscombe down in wiltshire had just over 25 millimetres of rain in just a few hours. a scattering of heavy showers and thunderstorms through central southern england and south wales this afternoon. further north, the best of the sunshine, but more cloud across the far north—east of scotland to orkney and shetland and some north—eastern coasts
