I want to start with you about this new potential discovery. 122 pieces of possible debris or at least objects spotted in an area a lot smaller than we have been dealing with in the past, about 400 square kilometers. They range in size up to 70 feet. Some are much smaller. Some are brightly colored. This seems to have a lot of analysts excited about this. What is the significance of this find . I think it is wise we are calling these objects now and not calling them debris from the outseat. We have seen from previous imagery, from the start, when we had that first satellite image provided by the u. S. That the australian Prime Minister spoke about, that proved to be a bit of a red herring. We have seen that these potential satellite images can be freighters, parts of ships, refractions of light, dolphins. What i would say, is there are 122 pieces. That seems like an accurate assessment from a satellite. Potentially, a higher resolution satellite. My analysis is leading me down the path that it would be harder to mistake 122 objects for a pod of dolphins, et cetera. What i would say as well is every piece of evidence that we are getting, we should be treating it as a huge jigsaw. There is no one piece of evidence that is going to be the eureka evidence. There is going to be no silver bullet. We need to treat each piece of evidence as the single bit of the jigsaw. We place it in and step back. Christine, the race is on to get to the place where those objects were spotted. This image was taken on sunday. We have had a store move into the already difficult seas. The challenge is to locate them once again. Talk to us about that. That, they could be miles. We were talking to a currents experts earlier today. They could be moving about a mile an hour. It makes it easier for them to follow them, really. As opposed to one or two that are bobbing in the ocean which, again, weather is always going to be a factor. I this i that this is very positive and hopefully, they will make contact with these objects. They are still backtracking, they are still following this around thichl around. This is the south indian ocean. It is inhospitable. We have said this enough. It is remote. We have a large team deployed there. We do have the resources on site at the moment which is more positive. We are moving ahead. Time is running out. Again, getting to these objects and being able to identify them, you have more eyes out there that are going to be able to follow them back and working with the experts. It is surprising to me actually that they took this picture on sunday. They didnt get the data back, we think, until today, to try to send this search plane to the pinpoint area. It is within the area that they are searching. They had 12 planes out today. Five surface ships out today. Michael, it does seem a little surprising to me that they havent been able to pick up more signs. The satellite seeing 122 pieces of debris. How come the planes havent seen it yet. A number of reasons. I think the analogy of looking for a needle in a haystack is a good one. Once we found the haystack, that is where christine talents come in in finding the needle subsurface. Weather is a huge, huge player in this. Ive conducted Search Operations over the ocean. When you have a good day of weather, it is phenominal. You can really, really search and scan. That ends up being a whole day, because they have that long trek out there. They need to reserve that. Brilliant point. It is the logistics of the situation. When that weather comes in, the cloud bases come down at 200 feet. The rain start falling and the visibility comes into 500 kilometers. Sometimes you get their Goldfish Bowl effect. It becomes impossible. The mark of an eyeball, the guys looking outside of the aircraft is as important as all of this Sophisticated Technology you have down the back from the thermal images and the synthetic radar and the magnetic detectors. The eyeball is equally as important. When that weather comes in, it makes it impossible. As we have heard time and time again, from the guys doing a fantastic job over the operation. It is in the right area generally. If you look at the search areas, you compare to where this has been found. Look at the search areas. They are right in the same general zone there. And they would fit the pattern of what you see when a big plane like this goes in the water. Look at the wreckage from twa. The fuel tank exploded here. That changed things a bit. A lot of the damage came when it hit the ground and reconstructed it. Lots of little pieces that are capable of floating. You talk about seat cushions, things like that. Still, here is the big challenge. When you say, why cant they find it . Maybe it has to do with the fact that this is a moving target. Think about the plane coming into this area if the theories are correct. They draw a grid down here to search for this plane all out across the water. The grid is huge compared to the plane. We are showing the plane so you can see it here. It would be a speck in all of this. They dont know when the fuel ran out on this plane. If it ran out early, it could have gone in way up here at the northern end where it could have gone to one side or the other or it could have gone much further down. What they have to do now is look at the pattern of where they found this debris if it turns out to be the right thing and say to themselves, does this represent where the plane went down. Did it go down there. Is that why the debris is there . Or does this tiny place where we found the debris, if it is the right thing, has it been drifting for days here . Has cit come from much further p in the chain . Is the bulk of the plane much further away . Bear if mind, if this were drifting at 2 miles an hour, which is not ridiculous for that area, this could cover about 150 miles in three days. Plane wreckage in the deep sea before. What you are looking at, it is being deployed from the back of the ship. It is a cavity. It is going to drop into the water. You are going to see it in just a moment. Im actually going to come around so that i can show you exactly how this is done. It is going to get deployed into the water. For our purposes, it is tethered. We are not in the middle of the ocean. We are on a dock. If this were the indian ocean, you would be able to see it deploy and its buoyant. You are going to see it on the surface as soon as it is on the water. Here is the deal. Here is how it works. There is a crew inside a control room that programs what this is going to do. In the case of the mh370, it would go down several miles into the indian ocean and it would start mapping the ocean floor. At this point, if the search area is narrowed, it would start looking for the debris field. Thats the one thing that this probe would be able to do. Then, hear this. Are they feeling hopeful about the forecast for tomorrow in terms of searching . Any are feeling hopeful. Pilots were telling us that today were some of the best conditions we were seeing.
