Vanished eight days ago. Pregnant wife of a u. S. Marine on her way to a National Park close to home in Southern California and she hasnt been seen since. Nick valencia is here with the investigation and what family members are saying. Truly a mystery. The search has intensified for 19yearold erin corwin, focused around her home in 29 palms. Couldnt have asked for a much better teenager. Shes a little been the timid side. Maybe a little bit on the naive side. But once she got to know you, you had a friend. Reporter loving words from a mother, her own wish now for her 19yearold daughter to come home. The last conversation we had was a week ago friday and we probably talked for at least an hour, just about my trip coming out here, we were going to go to sea world and the san diego zoo, and she was like, if you knew how much of an animal lover she is, you would know how excited she was about that trip. Reporter but the next morning erin corwin vanished without a trace. She had been scoping out locations in the joshua National Park when she went missing. Her husband in the u. S. Marine corps reported her disappearance the following day. A week from the air and by foot, search teams continue to look for corwin, her disappearance is suspicious with homicide investigators taking the lead in this case. We know that she is out there, its just a matter of us trying to figure out exactly where. We are also looking at it as a potential criminal investigation. So we dont want to destroy any evidence that we may be able to recover. Reporter earlier this week, police did find erins car in 29 palms near the military base where her husband is stationed. Hes not been charged, and no other clues have surfaced. For corwins mother she didnt believe her soninlaw could be linked to foul play. You start working your way out. Right. You or have you ever been suspicious he may be tied to her disappearance. Absolutely not. Reporter she learned shes going to be any awe grandmother. Erin is pregnant. It doesnt seem real, im cooking in her kitchen and shes not there right now. Her ring tone on my phone is a horse neighing and galloping and i would give anything to hear that ring tone, anything right now. Reporter erins mother says shes known her soninlaw for eight years and is not suspicious he may be tied to her disappearance. They have started a Facebook Page for more information about the 19yearold. Reportedly, the husband thought she might be going to a retreat or overnight stay at a ranch but then was there any more information where that ranch is . Whether anybody ever saw her . Great question, great point. Investigators are not releasing much information. The information is not being released to the mother, theyre keeping tight lipped and many questions about this. The investigation is focused around 29 palms where her car was found. Thank you, nick keep us posted. An american teenager is free from an israeli jail. The same teen who was beaten by israeli forces. The video caught on video and sparked outrage around the world weep should warn you, this record does contain graphic images. Reporter fredricka, jerusalem was relatively quiet today but the atmosphere remains very tense. One bit of good news, a 15yearold palestinian american boy released from Israeli Police custody, but thats not the end of the story. Reporter sporting two black eyes and a swollen lip, the 15yearold leaves Jerusalems Magistrate Court free on bail. How do you feel now youre out . I feel i feel way better. Reporter images caught on cell phone thursday evening shows Israeli Police punching and kicking the tampa, florida native on the ground, hands bound behind his back. His parents say he was taking part but not throwing rocks. Israeli Police Continue to investigate the involvement in protests. He remains under house arrest for nine days, not in the family home, but rather in a relatives home in the adjacent neighborhood. What do you think of the decision of court . Im not really happy, because hes being he hasnt been charged with anything and he hasnt been accused of anything, not charged with anything, and they have him on house arrest out of his own home and plus hes theyre making us pay a fine. It was 10,000 and went down 3,000. Reporter youll pursue charges against the police who beat him . Yes, we will, definitely. Reporter the Israeli Justice Ministry launched a probe into the incident. His father has scant faith in the process. Confident the investigation will be fair . What history, no. Reporter as that investigation moves forward, the police have arrested several israeli jews for questioning in connection to the abduction and murder of 16yearold mohammed, indicating it may have been a politically motivated revenge killing, and more fuel for the fire. Fredricka . Ben wedeman, thanks so much. Talking about an american citizen here, washington has weighed in with a response. At the white house with more reaction, weve been hearing from the u. S. State department today. Its made very clear that the u. S. Expects a lot. Thats right, fred. They have been direct in their response to this incident. They have condemned it, theyve called for a quick investigation into it. We just received a new statement from the state department, if the investigation is concluded promptly, he should be able to return to florida as planned with his family later this month. Well continue to monitor the situation closely. The Israeli Justice Ministry launched an investigation and the state department reiterated they want it to be credible and transparent. Okay. Meantime, the president s jaebd this week, also includes heading to texas for a fundraiser but the governor rick perry invited him to check out the border with mexico especially as debates heighten over Immigration Reform and what this white house is willing to do. Has there been any new response from the white house . Any change of thought on whether he will take the governor up on that offer . Theyre not taking the bait just yet, fred. The white house says no side trip scheduled to visit the border while hes down there for the pair of fundraisers. Perry was again criticizing president obama today. He says that the president mutlaks effort and mutlaks focus by this but also democrats voicing the same criticisms. What one democratic congressman from texas said this morning to cnns candy crowley. Again, it would be nice for him to come down to the border but again, with all due respect, he still is one step behind. They knew this was happening a year ago, last year and again theyre not reacting fast enough at this time. Reporter Homeland Security secretary today responded to the criticism and says that theyre confident that the administration will be able to stem this tide. Thanks so much, at the white house. Whats your policy . An update on the scandal at university of north carolina. Ncaa revisiting the paper classes scandal involving hundred of athletes hundreds of classes. Sarah gannon has more. Good afternoon. One expert calls this the, quote, mother of all academic fraud cases but the ncaa barely did anything about it until now. Reporter hundreds of unc athletes enrolled in bogus classes, getting credits and good grades for doing little work. The reason they had to take paper classes because they couldnt do the work. They need nod stay eligible. Reporter whistleblower mary andingham help expose paper classes after years of being part of the system. A couple of most obvious, difficult and challenging for me a student who really couldnt work anywhere close to a middle school level. Reporter the ncaa never interviewed willingham as part of its original investigation into academic fraud and relied on uncs explanation of the scandal which pinned all of the blame on a single professor, seen here in this youtube video. Thats not just julius, its what we, the university used, to keep athletes eligible. Reporter the ncaa did punish one athlete for cheating, former football player, mike mcadoo, he says his advisers pushed him and his athletes into the fake classes. They made a big deal saying they didnt know, they didnt know he was taking these class but was tried to make it seem like i was the only one takes these classes. I didnt make these classes up. It is the mother of all academic fraud cases in athletics. Reporter thats university of oklahoma professor gerald gurney, he worked in athletics for 20 years and now researches academic fraud. Theres no doubt in my mind the cooperation of friendly faculty, the coverup and the excuses for this kind of behavior is egregious. Reporter after a flurry of reports, including a cnn investigation on the literacy rates of College Athletes nationwide and mounting pressure from congress and the public, unc responded by ordering a new investigation and offering to share findings with the ncaa. They hired a former federal prosecutor who, for the very first time, talked to key players involved in the scandal. And is looking at transcripts going back to the 80s. Its quite likely that if it is shown that this is a longterm systemic scheme on the part of the university, that unc will need to vacate wins. Reporter that could mean giving up two National Basketball championship titles. For willingham, the university demoted her, she filed a lawsuit on monday saying unc attacked her character and retaliated against her for blowing the whistle to cnn. You will see the story, it will be framed for you perfectly in the transcripts. Now the prosecutor who charged that professor he told me thursday he dropped the charge against him because he believes its more important for the community to understand what happened at unc than it is for the one professor to be charged criminally. Fred . And so, sara, you say the universitys investigating this. Is that an internal investigation or what more do we know . A formal federal prosecutor is conducting the investigation. You just heard that this was the result of a lot of public pressure. But his investigation is so quite big. Hes going back 30 years of athlete transcripts. Thats a lot of transcripts. Hes got 1. 5 million emails and documents to go through, interviewed more than two dozen people. The biggest get that he has is because most important piece of information that hes gathered is the interview with that professor, julius, because hes the only one who knows everyone else who also knew what was going on. And hes never talked, hes never talked to any other investigators. What he tells ken waynestein, its going to be huge for the investigation, fred. All right. Thanks so much. We appreciate it. All right, perhaps you caught that interview with joan rivers, how about the moment that she stormed off in the middle of it . Now, a response to that. Hey. Im ted and this is rudy. Say hi rudy. [ barks ] [ chuckles ] id do anything to keep this guy happy and healthy. Thats why im so excited about these new milkbone brushing chews. Whoa, im not the only one. Its a brilliant new way to take care of his teeth. Clinically proven as effective as brushing. Ok, here you go. Have you ever seen a dog brush his own teeth . The twist and nub design cleans all the way down to the gum line, even reaching the back teeth. They taste like a treat, but they clean like a toothbrush. Nothing says you care like a milkbone brushing chew. [ barks ] thats keeping you from the healthcare you deserve. At humana, we believe if healthcare changes, if it becomes simpler. If frustration and paperwork decrease. If grandparents get to live at home instead of in a home. The gap begins to close. So lets simplify things. Lets close the gap between people and care. No matter how fast your Business Needs to adapt, if hp Big Data Solutions can keep wireless customers smiling, imagine what they can do for yours. Make it matter. All right. Lots of strong opinions. Since my interview with trail blazing comedian joan rivers aired yesterday. Some thought i was mean and negative, and others thought she was mean and hypocritical. Perhaps you missed it altogether. Background. Joan rivers who celebrated her 81st birthday, has a new book out diary of a mad diva her folks said she was available for an interview and i was more than excited about that. She was funny, engaging along the way in the interview, and then something set her off and she stormed off the set during the taping. We did try to reach out to her again before it aired, but no response. After our airing, rivers did comment to the Hollywood Reporter, which we will share with you after running the interview in its entirety. Joan rivers, what a pleasure. You look so fabulous. Im so underdressed. Oh, youre not underdressed. Its hot and its a steamy summer weekend, its a nice way to put it. It is indeed. Hey, look, what is it about the year 2013 that you focus on in this diary when you thought, man, there is so much material i cant help myself, life got to write about it. It was my last book was on the bestseller list 19 weeks so my producers not a fool, she said, write another. I said about what . She said, youre funny every day, write about what annoys you or makes you laugh every day. And thats how the book came about. It was so great to write, because every day the laugh, bitch, put something down. Its all in there, experiences, observations, things ripped from the news or entertainment headlines. For example, you write this, im back in l. A. For a minor cosmetic procedure, im having a brow lift, tummy tuck, chin job, and lip implant or my Plastic Surgeon likes to call it the usual. So you know, joan, you joke about yourself, you joke about these surgeries. I mean, everything is on the table, right . Oh, well not on the table we take all of the skin off the table and made another person that works right beside me, im never lonely. Youre honest about the Plastic Surgery. Usually people get Plastic Surgery they dont want to tell anybody about it. Are you still getting them . Is it an addiction . Whats go on. In california, im not sure you specifically. Not yet. Near 50. Im sure youve had your botox. Ive had nothing yet. Whatever. Not that i dont need it but you know you look good. Im chicken. Every woman you know, dont put your money in a car, put your money on yourself, you leave the car at the curb. In california, the women look extraordinarily beautiful and thats of course pulled so tight sometimes they you know go to the bathroom through their ears but it doesnt matter. They look good. They look good. My gosh. Youre right. Everyone does look good in l. A. You write about interviews youre constantly on junkets, talking about your books, tv shows, enterprises and you write, i must say i hate going on shows where the interviewer just reads the questions regardless of what happens being said, me, i just killed my mother, interviewer, i understand you like shoes. I hate that at least link it up with did you go your mothers . Exactly, exactly. You know that its always so easy to tell whos a good interviewer and a bad interviewer when they follow what the guest just said. You know . If John Travolta says i was coming out of the closet today, you have to say what . Were you looking for a suit or looking for a young guy . You have to follow up on the question. Right. And do you feel like i mean you have been, you know, a trailblazer in so many different ways, and you know it seems like youve covered it all. I wonder, are there projects involve you and perhaps alongside your daughter melissa, anything else on your list you feel youve got to tackle one day soon . Everything. I mean were in the fourth year of fashion police, im going back to broadway starting in washington at the National Theater in november. I wanted to do another book. I want to do another book. You just want to keep doing things. Its so much fun to make people laugh and get a check. Wow. And so, you know, yeah, in all of these, you know, i guess forays its been very good to you, and you know youve got bestselling books, you sell out on stage, even with your fashion critiquing while its very mea
