Out in charlotte, north carolina. All of this erupting in the wake of the shooting of another black man in the hands of police. Some of the protesters turned on police. In total, 16 police were hurt, multiple vehicles damaged. Fires lit and looting broke out. Police releasing tear gas canisters to try to disperse those crowds. Charlotte police say keith lamont scott, a 43yearold father of seven was armed. This is what police say but scotts family say he didnt have a gun and that it was a book. The officer who shot scott was africanamerican, is africanamerican, but his daughter claims her dads killing was about race. My gosh, yall, look, the police just shot my daddy four times for being black. They tased him first and then shot him. Talk about he got a [ bleep ] gun. They just shot my [ bleep ] daddy. My daddy is dead they just shot my [ bleep ] daddy they just shot my daddy, hes dead my daddy is dead [ screaming ] those harrowing cries live streamed on facebook the moment she learned her father was killed. First lets go to nick valencia live in swhar lot right now. So nick Police Reportedly do have footage of the shooting but theyre not releasing it. Tell me why. They do have video and they said its part of the investigation but part of whats adding to the frustration here among protesters, this is a law that was signed into law by governor pat mcrory earlier this summer, hb972 which makes body cam footage from Police Officers, dash cam foosagtage unavailable unless a judge orders it to be so. Also whats complicating things are competing story lines. One set of facts by the police, the other released by them. They say theres no way keith scott could have been armed, he didnt own a gun. Police say they were serving a warrant for the arrest of somebody different. They saw scott come out of the car with the gun. He went back into the car, they say, and reemerged holding the handgun. He didnt comply with orders to drop the gun. Thats when at least one officer opened fire fatally shooting him. Right after the shooting almost immediately after that Fatal Shooting of keith scott, his daughter took to facebook to stream a live video. During that video she finds out keith scott had been killed, it was very raw, very emotional. That video had been viewed hundreds of thousands of times and that added to the demonstrations yesterday of those trying to confront Police Officers. At a press conference earlier the police chief addressed allegations of those being made by the scott family. People are watching how we respond, how we react. And im optimistic that the results of our action will be positive. Will have positive outcomes. But its time for the voiceless majority to stand up and be heard. Its time to change the narrative. Because i can tell you from the fact facts that the story is a little bit different as to how its been portrayed so far, especially through social media. There seems to be an intense amount of public distrust here with the Police Department that fuelled the frustration last night. At least 16 Police Officers injured in violent protests. At one point interstate 85, one of the main thoroughfares into charlotte, was briefly shut down by a group of demonstrators. There were other demonstrations being planned today. We heard from a local affiliate that local organizers say theyve called off on the protests to focus on a Community Town hall they expect to have. Were hearing a new statement from the attorney general who is speaking out against this on this topic, i should say saying it should be thoroughly investigated to find the truth and make sure justice is done. There have been at least Six Fatal Police Shootings here in 2016 in charlotte, according to local affiliates. All of those shootings, brooke, have been found to be justified. Keep youre to the ground and what the community is saying and what police are saying. Nick valencia, thank you. As far as the officer is concerned here, the officer who shot keith lamont scott, hes on paid administrative leave. His name is brentley vinson. He joined the Charlotte Mecklenburg police force two years ago. This is a photo we have of him from his time at liberty university. Its a Christian School where he played football and majored in criminal justice. Vinson then went on to join the Carolina Panthers before he became a Police Officer. My next guest knows officer vinson. Just a short time ago i talked to Michael Scurlock who formerly played in charlotte for the Carolina Panthers, has worked in Law Enforcement in the Sheriffs Department for york county and talked to officer vinson as recently as last night. I think both sides are torn. I know the families are torn of the life that was taken. I know the officer is torn because he had to take someones life. Ive never met any individual, any officer that goes on a daily basis and says hey, im looking to take someones life. So i know having the opportunity to speak with brent vinson that just last night and you talked to him just last night . Just last night. I know hes torn and any time, no matter if its justified or unjustified its tough when you have to know that you had to take someone elses life. I was told you hadnt talked to him. So you have talked to him. This is news, what did he tell you . Well, without going into great detail i can tell you that its nothing easy. Its nothing easy. He expressed that through the emotions of his voice over the phone. It was a very brief, short conversation but i assured him that, you know, as much as our community is praying for the loss of mr. Scott as well, well also be praying for him as well and i believe he has a strong support within the community as well as the scott family as well so at some point in time this will be resolved and brought to light. I dont want to pry too much more on what was a private conversation but these protests, officers injured, shutting down i85. Did the officer comment on the outrage in the wake of what happened . Well, i didnt brooke, i didnt ask him, i didnt push that just because the sensitive the nature of where he was at this point in time of this night and i didnt want to ask real sensitive questions like that. I wanted him to have time to just spend with his family as well and just let him know that he and that im hear along with my family and others are here to support him and just have him in our prayers as well. Michael scurlock, thank you so much for your time. Were also following the Deadly Police shooting in tulsa, oklahoma. There are multiple video there is that show 40yearold Terence Crutcher, an unarmed black man, standing at his car middle of the highway hands in the air when one officer decides to shoot. Hands up dont shoot hands up dont shoot hands up dont shoot black lives matter black lives matter these are some of the cries in tulsa and Police Videos of the incident further fuelling criticism of the case. His family spoke exclusively to cnn about Terence Crutcher, his four children and race and policing in america. The video was released i think on sunday and the first time i was able to watch it was on monday and i lost it its the most devastating thing that has ever happened to me in my life. Whats breaking my heart is that his youngest son, we call him little terence asked me day before yesterday wheres my dad . Because he hadnt seen him in a couple of days so in his mind hes wondering whats going on so we told him, because we are people of faith, that dad went to heaven and that kind of satisfied him for the moment. Because he knows dad is in a good place. Hillary clinton talked about your case. She called it intolerable to see Something Like this. What do you think that this is now a National Conversation about what happened to your son . Well, it should be talked about. People should be discussing it. And we need to come to some type of way of making this right, getting justice not only for terence but for all of those killings across our country. I hear someone who was paid to protect and serve us prejudging my brother. He didnt know my brother at all and i have so many friends who are officers of the law and they stand with us and they say thats not representation of who our Public Servants are supposed to be and it just validate what is weve been angry about, what weve been confused about, what weve been hurt about. Because he looks like a bad dude, what does that say to you . Anyone whos big in stature or may have brown skin it just seems like they automatically criminalize or demonize or say, hey, you know, were going to get you. I really sad. I have friends who have young boys and theyre afraid to go to drivers ed. They dont want drivers licenses. Theyre afraid and that saddens me. You want them to know that your brother was not a bad tuesday, he was a father and a brother and a son. He was all of that. Last night ive been flooded with love and support from people all around the world sfwr all different backgrounds, from all different cultures and one that broke me down and touched my heart is one of his professors at Tulsa Community college who said terence was in my sociology class last fall, he never missed a class, all he talked about was his children. And his final presentation he did was on christianity. And she said her heart breaks and shes going to miss him and i lost it and so that big bad dude mattered. He truly mattered. Powerful interview there. Ana cabrera is live in tulsa. Ana i know you talked to the attorney for betty shelby, the Police Officer who shot crutcher. What did he say . Well, he is saying theyre anxiously awaiting the results of the investigation done by the Police Department here. Of course, thats the criminal investigation into whether the use of force was justified. He tells us his client, officer betty shelby, did an interview the local investigators on monday and hes hearing their criminal case could be wrapped up as soon as the end of this week, turned over to the d. A. s office so thats a little bit on the timing. He said theres a lot not on the video, the video that caused so much outrage and sparked the department of justice to open up a civil rights investigation where you see terence crutch we are his arms up as hes walking away from the officer back toward his vehicles. What weve learned from the attorney is officer shelby happened upon Terence Crutcher on that fatal night. She was responding to a Domestic Violence call that was unrelated and she is coming down the roadway, sees him standing in the road, continues and finds a car parked in the middle of the roadway, he said it was still running, she does an inspection, has an exchange with Terence Crutcher, he does not respond to questions. He disobeys several of the commands to keep his hands out of the pockets, continues to put them in throughout the conversation, he tells us she feared he may have had a weapon either on him or in his vehicle and he maintains, the attorney maintains, officer shelby believed he was reaching into the vehicle perhaps to grab a weapon when he she opened fire killing Terence Crutcher, brooke. All right. Ana cabrera in tulsa, thank you so much. Meantime, other than covering the shootings, we want to talk politics and the politics including don king. Did you see this . Don dming a church in cleveland dropping the n word while introducing donald trump all while donald trump says places like afghanistan are safer than americas inner cities. Well have a discussion on that. And more breaking news, the fbi releasing this photo. They want you if you know who these people are to call them. These two apparently were seen removing a bop from a bag in new york city over the weekend and they are releasing this new video showing scorch marks in the new York New Jersey bombing suspects backyard. So much more to talk about. Youre watching cnns special coverage. Well be right back. The lubricants that improved fuel economy. Even technology to make engines more efficient. What company does all this . Exxonmobil, thats who. Were working on all these things to make cars better and use less fuel. Helping you save money and reduce emissions. And you thought we just made the gas. Energy lives here. My mmade a simple trip toonic the grocery storesis anything but simple. So i had an important conversation with my dermatologist about humira. Go long. Welcome back, youre watching cnn, im brooke baldwin. Lets talk charlotte. Panthers quarterback cam newton has just weighed in by the Fatal Shooting. Cam said he wouldnt speak specifically on the incident because of a lack of information but what he did do was talk about social injustice overall. I have a son. How will it be and a daughter that im responsible for . So how would i be if one day they come home and its no more daddy, you know . . And its not like its just like, okay, well, you can get a settlement for it doesnt matter, money doesnt matter in that. We just need people to be held accountable. When you look at the most dangerous cities in america, you know, atlanta, birmingham, chicago, miami, louisiana, i know from being a black person its a lot of black people that dont do right by black people so you cant be a crhypocrite a just say a white man or a white Police Officer killed a black man. Thats still messed up. Im not saying thats okay, im just saying we still have to have a clear eye vision on both sides and it starts with Everybody Holding each other accountable and policing yourselves. Lets go to atlanta. Steven jackson retired nba player, spent part of his career in charlotte with the bobcats, currently the hornets. Steven jackson, so nice to have you on, welcome. Thanks for having me. Im sure you heard cam newton, also just wanted you to come on and tell me, youve followed the shootings, most recently charlotte and tulsa. Whats your reaction . Its sad. A lot of people say a lot of things but my question is really why every time a black man get pulled over the cops are so nervous . Why do we seem so threatening . Were all human beings, we all wake up, tie our shoes and do everything the same. Why are they so nervous when a black man is pulled over. Thats the biggest question. Do they know something we dont know . Why do they get so nervous. Thats the big question for me. Why do you think it is. Do you have any Law Enforcement friends, steven . I do and ive never had any problem with Law Enforcement to that extend but maybe they feel threatened by us because were more powerful than we even know. Being a black man in america we dominate sports, we dominate entertainment so we have a lot of power and i dont think we know that and i just think weve been treated as a black man i know the black race has been treated so bad for so long, a lot of it is out of guilt and understand we feel a certain way. I have a lot of Police Friends who do a great of of policing because theyre from the area so i think the perfect answer is to have police from these areas police their cities so they know the situation and it will be resolved. You heard in dallas that police chief saying come join us after his own officers were killed there. As a carolina guy, this story out of charlotte. Its tricky depending on who you ask because there are two very different versions of the story. The family of the victim says he had a book, he was reading a book, police say no, it wasnt a book, it was a gun, they found a handgun on the scene. What do you make of these two very different versions . You feel sympathy for the family, you want to believe the daughter but at the same time
