Bridgewater, new jersey. Kaitlyn, whats on the president s gaentd da today . Reporter well, the president like you said is spending the weekend here at his golf course in bedminster, new jersey, hell travel to washington briefly tonight to attend a rally at the Kennedy Center for veterans. And hell return here tonight. Heel likely spend the weekend preparing for his trip next week, a stop in germany and poland, attending the g20 summit. Hes expected to meet many leaders there but the one that everyone has their eye on is the meeting with Vladimir Putin. Everyone is wondering if he will ask him about russian meddling in the election. White house Officials Say no agenda has been set yet. Answer its not clear if they will have a bilateral or a pullaside during the summit. The president telling lawmakers via twitter repeal obamacare now. If they cant pass this bill and then replace it later. But that does not correspond with what the president promised earlier . No, it doesnt. Senate republicans as you know have been negotiating a Health Care Bill for the last few weeks now. And donald trump really threw a wrench in that yesterday when he tweeted maybe we should repeal it now and replace it at a later date. Now, the reason this is so shocking is that the president is the one who suggested repealing it and replacing it immediately. Back at an interview for 60 minutes he said there wouldnt even be a twoday deal between repeal and replace. Senator ben sass said yesterday on that he thinks they should repeal it and then later replace it. Now Mitch Mcconnell has quite a headache dealing with trying to negotiate with other republicans in the senate. Deputy press secretary Sarah Huckabee sanders said yesterday that the president has not changed his mind about held care and that theyre still going to move forward with a bill but now want other options in place. But the president has been inconsistent with his health care policy. Back in may, he cheered the house bill to replace the Affordable Health care act but later denounced it as mean. Kaitlyn collins in bridgewater, new jersey, thanks so much. We have eugene scott and washington posts lynn sweet. There you go, lynn, i see you. Well get them back here in a minute. I want to list ton senator ben sass. Because hes quietly been talking to the white house about just repealing obamacare. As kaitlyn just mentioned. Lets listen to sass in his own words here. If we dont get this resolved by monday of the next week, july 10th, if there isnt a combine repeal and replace plan, im writing a letter to the president urging us to call us on to separate them. Lets do as much repeal as we can and have the president ask us to cancel the august work bill and stay here and work on it separate. Eugene, this is whats interesting when he says it will be a oneyear transition, a holding period, errol, does that not give republicans one year to change everything up, essentially . Well, thats certainly what the senator is arguing and hopefully, he thinks the president is buying into that because we saw the support that the president put forward to the idea on twitter on friday. However, there are other republican lawmakers including representative kissinger from illinois who is concerned that that could leave some people even beyond that year with no coverage. If you can remember, in the past, lawmakers have said were going to have something accomplished by year, and were not able to honor that. And so, the question becomes will they be able to find a solution in a year to a problem theyve been working on for more than eight years. And many people expected them to already have an answer for. Yeah. So, lynn, when we think about what people are most concerned with, were talking about numbers in the 18 million to 34 million range of people who would lose health care. How much trust, how much confidence is there, that if he repealed it, they would truly bow back and replace it later . Or if that replacement would just kind of fadeaway . Well, key to any republican plan, even one that may emerge later in the summer will be handing states a lot more power than they have now to determine the rules of coverage. So, i would say that unless you have a good idea from the governor of your state of what the intentions are, you have no confidence going forward. What the insurance landscape will be in the future. And if you repeal and not replace, then you throw the private markets into turmoil because Insurance Companies need certainty to make those plans and figure out how they are going to proceed. So, you could have a grace period from washington, but the reality is, when you talk about numbers, about health insurance, the most important numbers is much smaller. Its about you and your family. Especially if you have special needs. Especially if right now you are on medicaid. Especially if a loved one of yours who once was in the middle class and once is doing okay, but now theyre older, their resources have run out, and theyre in a nursing home, and medicaid, that program where the state and federal partnered to pay the bills, you may now find that your loved one, your grandma, or if youre a little older, mom or dad in a nursing home, you cant pay the bills. So, when you ask about trust, i would say, given how sprawling the Health Care System and the potential of states having a big say now, theres just no reason, without some fact base which we dont have, why would anyone necessarily be able to chart the future in this uncertain time . Eugene, shes talking about numbers here. Its not just numbers of health care. We look ahead at the crux of what the president voted on. And that was, or was elected on, and that was his tax reform. And thats what they want to take up next. How do you reconcile or come up with a tax reform plan if you havent reconciled health care . Because dont you need the savings from the health care to help determine what will happen in tax reform . Well, that was originally part of the plan that the president put forward early into his entry into the oval office. But right now, okay just, lawmakers are trying to figure out how to deal with this issue first, repealing obamacare. If they cannot agree as to how to do that in a way that benefits most americans, according to what the president campaigned on, it will be very difficult to get tax reform passed before the end of this year. Certainly, lawmakers are going to try to work on it. But whether theyll be able to try to do that by the end of the summer which is what senator sas sasse happies will happen is not clear right now. I want to look ahead to the week of g20, a lot of people wondering what will transpire between President Trump and president putin. Theyre set to meet facetoface, lynn. What do you expect . Is there going to be a consequence for this president if he does not take a tougher stance with president putin . My guess its in neither leaders interest to have a confrontation at the g20. By that, i mean to talk about the russia collusion investigations going on, with the special prosecutor and the Court Congressional committee. So, they will have many other things to talk about. And i do think that the trump comfort zone is more in talking with putin in areas where they think they could Work Together. But this is a big elephant in the room. And it may just stay there. All right, lynn sweet, eugene scott, always appreciate you both. Thank you. And thank you. We have more for you now in the breaking news in little rock, arkansas. We have from our affiliate in little rock, reporter price mckeon there on the scene. Price what you can tell us about it . Do they know a positive motive . We know this is not terrorrelated. Reporter they did say that, victor. But what else theyre saying, theyre really still investigating trying to figure out what exactly happened. Our, price mckeon from little rock affiliate kark, thanks so much. Police say a disgruntled doctor went on a shooting rampage of a new york City Hospital which is a hospital where he used to work. He killed a doctor and wounded six hours before he killed himself. Hospital workers barricaded themselves in rooms. They were hiding behind desks and doors. The former doctor had some sort of a troubled past. But officials are still investigating his motives and whether he knew any of those victims personally. President trump will be meeting with Vladimir Putin at the g20 summit. Heres a big question, what will they discuss . Well ask a lawmaker next. Also, President Trump said hes following through on a Campaign Promise sending federal agents into chilling to crack down on illegal weapons there. Finally, an arrest in the case of the missing grad student but the news is not good. What theyre telling family members, coming up. T fast relief with vicks sinex. Next week, President Trump will meet russian president Vladimir Putin on the sideline of the g20 summit in hamburg. There are no details yet of the format of the meeting or what will be discussed. Lets talk about it now. Joining me now democratic congressman Frederick Meeks of new york. Congressman, good morning. Good morning. H. R. Mcmaster said there is no specific agenda, its whatever the president wants to talk about. I cant imagine theyll send the president into the meeting without talking points, without an agenda. What would you have him talking about with Vladimir Putin . Well, very definitely, he needs to be talking about russias intrusion into our democratic process. The cyberattempts, getting into emails, et cetera. Russias aggression in the ukraine. Theres a whole host. Russias lack of human rights for many in russia. So, i think he should start with, of course, the intrusion into our democratic process. But also have subject matter talking about the aggression that russia has had, in ukraine. As well as some of the human rights and leaks to the press in russia. You suggested he talk about russias intrusion in meddling in the 2016 election. The president hasnt 100 bought into that. Whats your degree of confidence that that will come up . Well, i dont have. You asked me what i would talk about. Im not saying thats what this president will talk about. We clearly saw that when the Prime Minister from russia was in the white house, with the ambassador, that he was having a good time. And what he was talking about was giving away american secrets. So, i am extremely concerned about what this president will talk about. Or whether he will talk about anything of substance at at all with reference to russia. Unlike the new fred of France Macron who very clearly criticized putin about russias involvement in the french elections and other european elections. This is a threat to the very democracy that we have here in america and around the world. And i would hope that our president will say something, but i have no confidence that he will. Lets turn to north korea now, the president in the rose garden with the president of south korea, talked about strategic patience with north korea. And heres what he said. The era of strategic patience with the north korean regime has failed. Many years, and its failed. And frankly, that patience is over. Now, the first time weve heard this from this administration clearly a rhetorical shift from the obama administration. Practically, what does that mean . What does the end of strategic patience look like from your perspective . I was going to ask you because i have no clue what that means. Listen, clearly, its a difficult situation in north korea. My thought pattern would be that weve got to be in lockstep with our allies there in south korea, and in japan. I think there has to be more increased pressure on china. We need to have some talk in the regard of pressure, i should say, put on north korea in a very similar way that we did with iran, in getting that Nuclear Agreement done. I know some people talk about that we had sixparty talks in the past. If you go back, you look at it, we had an agreement. There was something that went on in the transition between the Clinton Administration and the Bush Administration and the North Koreans pulled out. But if we had, i think we need those talks where there is a verifiable opportunity to get on the ground and get all of the information thats necessary from the North Koreans in the same manner that were doing in iran. But clearly, what the president is talking about, i have no clue what his policy is. And what that has meant. Nobody indicated that they know what it is. Lets turn to health care quickly before we let you go. Senate republicans missed the selfimposed deadline to pass the bill by the july 4th break. If they come back and cannot pass it, there are some senate republican, lindsey graham, john mccain, who say its time now to work with the democrats. Is there an area here, an overlap, if the negotiations begin with republicans, that you are willing to negotiate . Some ground youre willing to give to improve the Affordable Care act . Absolutely. I think democrats have said all along, there is no perfect bill. And as opposed to coming to what the president said, this would be easy during the campaign and within the first 48 hours or so, this will be done. Look, before the Affordable Care act, people were not talking about preexisting conditions, they were not talking about the cap. Theyre not talking about children being on their parents medical coverage to the age of 26. So, are there areas that we could Work Together and improve . Absolutely, there are areas. What are they . The major complaint about the Affordable Care act is in some areas bringing the cost down. Bringing the cost down overall to ensure for pharmaceutical drugs so that it is affordable. And theres ways to do that. What the president has done is basically undermine that by making sure that individuals, for example, younger people advertising to get more folks to sign up, which helps bring the cost down. You know, the truth of the matter is, i think for the president , this is really not about health care for him. Its about tax. And its about making sure that those in his class receive tremendous tax cuts. At the expense of individuals who would lose, based upon the cbo, 22 Million People would lose their health care. Medical class americans who need medicare, medicaid, for their seniors who may be in affordable living, assisted living facilities, they would not be able to afford it. But, yes. In answer to your question, absolutely, i think democrats would be looking to help improve and fix some of the issues within the Affordable Care act. But not repeal it. Congressman meeks good to have you. Christi. Every week, cnn picks the person they believe who had the worst week in washington. This week, senator majority leader Mitch Mcconnell. This is what he told us. With Mitch Mcconnell, youre right, its always a busy week. Donald trump could have won but i went with Mitch Mcconnell leader. Senate. Ill tell you why, victor, Mitch Mcconnell set as this past week the hard and fast deadline to pass health care. And then he decided there werent the votes and he had to postpone it which he did not want to do. This is a guy who people say is a legislative mastermind but he didnt really show it. Cnn cuts through the political standing and gets through whats happening in washington. Can you describe the point with Chris Cilizza on cnn. Com. The feds are looking to crack down on illegal weapons in chicago. Is that President Trump following through or the last administration . Also Police Arrest a man they say grabbed a chinese grad student.
