At least two people shot and gunman killed by police in the scene at the alabama mall as black friday got under way. One victim 12 years old. It happened a river chase galleria in the birminghams largest suburb. Two people got into a fight and that led to gunfire. Everybody freaked and screamed and ran into Mountain High and they stuffed us in supply closets and locked the doors. They seemed prepared. We sat there for five to ten minutes freaking out and they opened the escape route doors. Police on duty at the mall for black friday responded quickly. Cnns Dianne Gallagher has more. Reporter kaylee, within the past hour, one of the Police Officers tells us here at cnn the 12yearold girl has come through surgery and that her injuries are not expected to be life threatening in any way. They are still not sure who shot her. That is a testament to how chaotic the scene was at the mall. According to witnesses, people started pouring out of the door of the jc penney. The shooting happened between this store and foot action near the food court. C of course, normally this parking lot would be full at this hour on black friday. According to authorities, that is what the case was overnight when people were crowded in the mall and it appears two men got into a fight. The gunman shot an 18yearold man and then attempted to run away. Because there were so many Police Officers on duty because of the black friday crowds, they were expecting the early shortstops on thanksgiving night. Early shoppers on thanksgiving night. They shot the gunman quickly and attempted to get people out as they tried to figure out what was going on. Again, a chaotic scene here. Not something that anybody who came here just to kind of cash in on the early bargains. A lot of people come on thanksgiving now as something they do with family members after they eat. Nothing that anybody here was expecting or wanting to deal with kaylee and dave. They are still trying to investigate what happened and that 18yearold, we are told, is in serious condition at uab hospital. More questions than answers. Dianne, thank you.
