How does it look . Who are dover voters favoring right now . Well, ive talked to a lot of people all over the city and i think its very diversified. Ive seen some of the candidates come into the city and theyve all gotten good responses. Ive attended a few of the presentations. Theyve spoken very well. Whats your feel of the energy . Whats your feel of the energy right now, mayor . Well, i think theres two that are really on the top, and thats bernie and thats also pete. And i think the other i think amy is right behind there. Elizabeth warren is doing quite well and the other candidates, i think theyre coming up pretty good, too. Theyre all getting pretty good responses from the state. Theyre going to these venues getting anywhere from 600 to 1,000 people. Thats telling you theres a lot of people thats a lot. Undecided. Your city is 29,000. When you talk about 600 to 1,000 at rally after rally. Thats a lot of people. People take their role very seriously there. Yes. In terms of their vote. You go through bernie and pete at the top and then you said amy and then you said Elizabeth Warren. You did not say joe biden in that top group. That sort of stands out to me. Well, you know, i think joe i think he would be a very he is a very good candidate, the only thing that ive talked to some of the residents in the city is that i think hes kind of flat. I dont think hes got the the what should i say, the energy that the others have and i think thats what a lot of the millennium people are looking for. Theyre looking for somebody going out there and theyre really vibrant, theyre going after, you know, the good causes, environmental, climate change, all of the above. And i think joe biden has his points but i dont think hes got the energy that the others have. Its an interesting observation and it may, indeed, be very prescient in terms of what we see. Another thing, mayor carrier, is the sheer number of candidates. There are so many and maybe because of the chaos of iowa it seems even more unsettled. When youre talking about Bernie Sanders, Pete Buttigieg, Amy Klobuchar, does this feel different for you Elizabeth Warren . There doesnt seem to be an overwhelming favorite at least in terms of what youre seeing . I think its totally different. I really do. First of all, i have never seen so many candidates running for president so which is good because you get a lot of choice, but to have like four of them in the top running without a lot of decisions being made out there until they go to the voting booth, thats different. Thats definitely different. You feel like people are going to make their decision tomorrow . When you say people havent made up their minds even now . Yes. Okay. I think tomorrow honestly. I think a lot of people are waiting until the last bell rings and i think tomorrow is the day that theyll make their decision, a lot of them. All right. Others were not even democrats in 2016 and it seems based on what we have learned from talking to these voters that many of them are looking for a more moderate voice. Theyre looking for a unifier. It seems to suggest that perhaps Bernie Sanders may not be as strong as he once was but, again, some real questions about exactly how big this universe really is of potentially new independent minded voters who might play tomorrow night in New Hampshires primary. Lisa, in New Hampshire what kaine of turnout are you expecting to see from independents tomorrow from all of the reporting and rallies youve been at . Is this going to be a big part of tomorrow . Well, independents are typically a big part of the primary here in New Hampshire, particularly this year with President Trump running essentially unopposed. All of the action is going to be on the democratic side. I think the broader question is how big turnout is going to be overall for democrats. New hampshire officials have gotten all kinds of recordbreaking turnouts. It was close to 2016 and it fell short of expectations and also short of where it was in 2008 when democrats really turned out in force. So thats a question that everybody will be watching very closely tomorrow. Its a pretty important point. If we see turnout flat like in iowa, i think youre going to have a lot of people starting to ask serious questions. When it comes to Bernie Sanders, he won by 50 points and overall by 20 Percentage Points in 2016. Does that set a bar that he needs a run away win for a solid victory . He eeks it out by a couple of points, is that a victory for Bernie Sanders or not . I think certainly in this state of the campaign a victory is a victory is a victory. With Bernie Sanders, i would add this. Back in october most people left him for dead. He had a heart attack on the campaign trail. Politically people didnt think he could come back from it. He comes roaring back. He gets the endorsement of aoc and other Young Leaders or future leaders of the Democratic Party and look where we are right now. A win is a win out of New Hampshire, but if it is an overall win where he comes out cleanly, thats going to spell trouble for the rest of the candidates. Lisa, Elizabeth Warren is in massachusetts. He was putting her in the top four. She was the fourth out of four. Can she afford to finish third or fourth . What kind of finish does she need to really get the momentum that she really does need to keep going from here . I think fourth would be a really hard finish for her. She hasnt quite settled on where her lane is in this race. What you see is all of these other candidates biting into her support. You have Bernie Sanders and Pete Buttigieg. You even have Amy Klobuchar coming in and taking away some people who might want to see the first female president. So shes in a really tough spot here and i think she needs as strong a finish as she can possibly manage or she may start to see some of the enthusiasm drain away, some of the money drain away and it will get harder and harder to continue in the race. Former Vice President joe biden is campaigning now. This is a live picture. Hes called this fourth place a gut punch. Downplaying the finish in New Hampshire. Indicating it could happen again. I think anybody coming out of New Hampshire it will be very difficult coming out in fourth place and trying to move forward from that. However, in the case of joe biden they try to write the headline after that debate. They basically try to get that out of the way. As you noted, lower expectations with the idea that they can get into south carolina, that they can build this fire wall and it will open up the south for them. We know from polling and from past electoral experience joe biden is going to do well with american voters. Having said that, if he comes out of New Hampshire and hes really, really hurt, then well look at south carolina, nevada, well start to see if theres any slippage amongst africanamericans in the south and hispanic voters out in nevada. He can still do well and turn this around. By the end of february, erin, there are only 4 of delegates apportioned.
