Back to you, allison. Thank you, ill be back in 25 minutes with more news, meantime, back to victor and christine. So what was your favorite Christmas Toy . Dont ask me. I wont, i wont. I had a wonder woman doll and i had all three charlies angels dolls. Did you have the headband and the cuffs . You know i did. I know you did. Mine was the heman big wheel. I loved that thing. You were in. And do you have a picture of him in the big wheel . Just that riding, loved it. There are a lot of kids who loved the bikes, there are kids now who love the rechargeable cars and trucks. You know for some children with disabilities, many of those toys are offlimits. The kids with physical challenges, they struggle to operate them for one thing and theres some toys that are designed for their needs. But the thing is, the toys are so expensive. This christmas some talented students in florida are changing that. Theyre tricking out some toys for a few very special kids, offering them oneofakind play with a purpose. Its a Christmas Toy workshop, thousands of miles from the north pole. Theres no snow, no reindeer, Just Sunshine and palm trees. This is the campus of the university of north florida, in jacksonville. And these students are wrapping presents for children that they say no one else, not even santas elves are making. Presents for children like 4yearold lucas, in most ways hes like any other preschooler. He watches pippa pig, he cares for his turtle, squirt and one more thing he loves cars. Cars, trucks, trains. Anything on wheels. Especially flashing toys that vibrate. You see lucas has polymicrogyria, a brain mall formation, so toys have to work double time to stimulate him. Around christmas those toys are hard to find. His mom said she learned of this college toy team from one of lucas doctors. His physical therapist a year ago said i want lucas to have a car. And as you might expect, its not just any car. This is unfs adaptive toy project. Students are customizing popular kids rechargeable sports cars and suvs to suit children with developmental challenges. And professor mary lundy says the toys play two roles. Children that have Developmental Disabilities cant always explore their environment and play. So thats one piece. At the same time through this increased mobility, they learn cause and effect, they learn object permanence, they learn balance. They learn mobility. Juan azareos is a professor and he said teaming up students from different disciplines has not been easy. Physical therapy and engineering. Its a clash of cultures, its a different world for sure. They work in groups. We give them one single problem. That is, they are supposed to provide power mobility to children with movement impairments. And hopefully were teaching a lot of those soft skills in addition to technical handson skills. Teamwork, altruism, compassion, selfsacrifice. Senior engineering major says this fascination stretches back to his childhood in venezuela, its not rooted in the nostalgia for his car, although he loved it. Instead its driven by the neighborhood boy in this old blurry photo. Nomito, who could not ride with him. He was born without any limbs, he only had a couple of fingers on his elbow area. He was limited to a skateboard but it was one of just a few limitations. I moved out of venezuela. And then when i came back, he had actually become an electrical engineer. Juan says nomita inspired him to study engineering. Zp just seeing this car makes me begin to imagine what he was would have been able to do with a little push like this. A little push that mom kaitlyn says lucas now needs. I think this will get him a good confidence boost and open him up to more social situations. That he kind of avoids other children right now. And just days before christmas good job the students delivered their cars and trucks to nine children and what does lucas think of his suv with the flashing lights and the music . He loves riding in it. It might take a little while for him to figure out how to drive it. Once he does hes going to get all over the place. For the students, what was just another college elective became a lifechanging experience. They hope the gift they built delivers not just a good grade, but a fresh start this christmas for their new friend, lucas. Hopefully to improve his quality of life. Thats going to be the real reward of all of this. Go tell it on the mountain that jesus christ is born Chris Columbus was the director. Its called claymation. Narwhals really exist. Actually guys, it was the ghost of christmas past. Never stick your tongue on a frozen flag pole. Yukon cornelius. Die hard is considered a Christmas Movie thats the unlimited effect. Its called always discreet for bladder leaks, the super. Absorbent core turns liquid to gel. I know im wearing it but no one else will. Always discreet for bladder leaks. Marie callenders a lot of people are looking for healing from an election that oozed divisiveness and anger and hostility from all sides. Add in the crisis in syria, brexit. Terrorist threats around the world and hope is hard to find. Can you find it through your faith . Were going to talk to a few people who are hoping to get through to you, canon phil ashy. Pastor Kimberly Joan papillon and rafael warnok, senior paster at ebenezer church. Being that its christmas, were wondering, reverend let me start with you, what is your message going to be this Christmas Day to your congregation . Im always excited when christmas comes around and i think that the message is as powerful as ever. I think it helps us most when were honest, about the larger context of christmas, it is a message of hope and healing and love and light. But the message of christmas is not that were in denial about the darkness, its that the light penetrates the darkness and the darkness cannot overcome it. So im always excited when this time comes around, because it gives us a chance to recommit ourselves to the work and the message of christmas. Which is a message of peace and love. What do you find people need to hear most. What do they say to you that resonates with you and makes you say, lets address this. They say they just want to give up. I hear that a lot, i feel like giving up. My question to them always is, what does that look like . As long as you have a pulse, gods got a plan. You woke up, and a verse says hes going to do exceedingly abundantly. From here, its up. So stop looking in the rearview mirror, look forward. Look in the big old windshield ahead of you and realize that god woke you up for a purpose. Come on, one foot in front of the other. What are you finding that people in your congregation are saying to you and what do they need to hear most especially after the last 18 months that weve seen here in this country . I think theres just a tremendous amount of anxiety, sometimes fear. Worry about the future. I think the message of christmas, its all about jesus. He is the one, luke says, he is the baby wrapped in swadling clothes and the message at christmas is what child is this . What do you say about god who, you know a god who loves us so much that he enters our own lives, our flesh and blood, takes it upon himself and says, ive come this close to you, so that all you have to do now is the habits, hurts and hangups and im here to love you out of those and into abundant life. Reverend, how hard is it, for people who have no hope. Who are feeling that anxiety that youre talking about . To make that baby as hes talking about, baby jesus, to make that baby real for them . Because we know the story. Well thats the power of the story. Is that jesus enters into turmoil. Were not in denial about how difficult it really is, it was difficult the first christmas, we talk about silent night, it was a holy night. Im not convinced it was a silent night. We all know babies are rarely silent. Were talking about the massacre of infants, herod is on the loose, even though hope is in the air and the holy family becomes a refugee family, seeking asylum in egypt from the abuses of a despot who is insecure. You see this fear and hope and tension in the story. What were encouraged to do is to embrace our hope and resist the fear and really embrace the message of the angels who said peace on earth, goodwill toward all. I submit the reason why were still struggling to have peace on earth is we have a good time with all. Goodwill toward all. So this message is for all people. Its no accident that it comes to the most marginalized of the members of the human family, a poor, homeless couple, for whom there was no room at the inn. When we embrace those on the margins we embrace goods vision for all humanity. Isnt fear the underlying universal feeling that we all have, and thats what drives so much of it, insecurity and some of the hate were seeing and were watching whats happening in aleppo with these people. And whats even happening with the divisiveness in this country. How do you talk to people to let them know theres hope . Well you know fear is paralyzing so everywhere you look around the world you find fear. Fear, it can cripple you and it make you feel like that is the biggest thing in front of you. What you have to realize is my messages are so simple. You know what, youre here, gods got you here. Romans says hes working all things together for your good. Youre here for a reason and where can you be in your world that will help other people find hope . Be able to crawl out of their place of depression. Where are you in your life that you have something that can say, ive been there, ive done it lets do this together. If we all come together as a team. What do you think is the biggest obstacle this year going into 2017 . I do think its fear. And i want to build on what my brother and sister have said here. What was the message of the angels . It was dont be a i frayed, dont be terrified, go and look and find this child. And the message of christmas is be intensely curious about jesus. The angels said he is the christ, the anointed one, what does that mean . And its okay to have doubt, its okay to have questions. But thats, the shepherds im sure they have their doubts, all right were just on the job and god has done this incredible thing. But what did we really see . But they went. See faith is not the opposite of fear. Faith is what you do with your fear and this is what these guys did, they went and and the magi, they found jesus. I think thats the message. We want all people to have. Its a message that resonates from aleppo to chicago. Theres a reason why were still here. Because the story continues to resonate. And god still shows up in the midst of that, its not obvious, sort of away from the cameras, forgive me, away from the satellite trucks. God shows up in a barn. God tiptoes down the back stairwell of Human Experience and enters our turmoil. Our job is to continue to spread the message. We thank you all so much. I know you need to get the message out even more this Christmas Morning. Merry christmas to you. Christmas cheer all around the world. When we come back well give you a glimpse of what
