[ laughter ] the News Networks are there to let you know that whether you look at an issue from the right or from the left, those are the only two ways you can look at it. [ laughter ] not anymore. Recently, yeah [laughter] cnn has moved beyond this simplistic partisan world view to a simplisticier one. The all important u. S. Russia summit over syria isnt ending when we thought it would s. Jon my guess is for 18 days she didnt get to kill anybody else. [ laughter ] im going to go with good thing. Remember that complicated story about jp morgan take over Washington Mutual and bear sterns . Watch it become a lot less complicated. Somebody needed to do something to prevent a systemic breathdown breakdown and jp morgan took over those banks just like wells fargo can you just say is that a good thing or a bad thing . [laughter] jon and make it snappy, nerd [laughter] we dont have all day. Well, actually we do literally have all day 24 hours 7 days a week. But still good or bad and wear a tie [laughter] now watch wolf blitzer. Take an analyst making a nuanced argument about the balance in this country between liberty and security. Watch blitzer take this cat to j school. After 9 11 i think the American People gave the executive branch extraordinary leeway to sort of keep. Is that good or sphwhad. Think ultimately its a good thing. Jon its just not good or sphwhad cant believe this dude let himself get blitzed so quickly. Lets Michel Bachman show you how its done in the timely Affordable Care act. Lets go through the points tell me if its good or bad. Is it good or bad that children can be on their Parents Health insurance policies until they reach 26. These are biftz done now. But thats part of obamacare s. That good or bad . Is that good or bad . [laughter] jon wuft want to make this clear just want to make this clear, thats michel imichelle i think vaccines give you brain damage bachman being told by wolf blitzer to dumb it down. Thats not the game. Playing good or bad. Good or bad shall michele. Good or bad this is no anchor verbal tick. It extents across the network. President obamas request for a green light to strike syria adds a whole new dimension to the strained relationship with congress. Let me start with you, david, good thing, bad thing . Jon should we attack syria good or bad, go its like the word went out from cnn hq. Look nobody watches this network unless they are in the airport or going somewhere so 86 the professor talk and let the people know ask this story go in the happy bag or sad bag. Emoticon me, chop chop these people have planes to catch. Everybody play as long, every except carol cos tello , the rebel. Watch as she lets us know that the rabbit hole ooze an exit. Obamacare the final showdown. The is u. S. Supreme court could strike it down today or rule it uns constitutional. Unconstitutional s. That good or bad . It all depends. The nfl strikes a deal with thousands of players. Good thing . Bad thing . Some in the mid snl. Jon what is this middle you speak of and where be it . Be the middle beyond the realm of the craiken ring supreme . Or perhaps is a land down below where bilbo bagins scribbles in his redbook and all the elfs be surprisingingly bleep . [ laughter ] am i alone on that . I thought the elfs were unbelievable attractive. You have the ork, nah, the hobbits there and then the elfs. Who be this pointy eared apparition. To be fair cnn is not the only network if theyve asked if its gay thing or bad thing. Other things do it as well. When fox asks they know the answer. They say that 100 Million People looked up john 3 16 during the football game. Is that a good thing . I think its a fabulous thing. Making Student Loans more affordable is this a good thing . Bad. Bad. Bad. Jon got it. Bible good, education baaaad. Wait a minute, what if a student wants a loan to go to bible School School . Brain freeze but, of course, msnbc sometimes asks as well but sarcastically. Wisconsin has been losing jobs for six straight months since walkers budget went into effect. Ask yourself the question is that a good thing or a bad thing. Weve seen for the record 21 straight months of private sector growth. Mr. Romney is that a good thing or a bad thing. If the government today stops a pennsylvania pool from kicking out black kids is in a a good thing or bad thing . Jon the answer to all three are what are you bleep stupid . But cnn, they genuinely seem not to know. Good thing, bad thing . They really dont know. So much so that sometimes they have to use their phoneafriend lifeline. Good thing or bad thing to shut the federal government down for a few days. Seven in ten americans say a bad thing. Nearly six in ten americans say its a bad thing. Nearly 410 say it would be a good thifnlg remember that. Jon but also remember this. Nearly six in ten of you believe in angels. [laughter] i dont want to say it by reducing complex stories to children but im saying if this is the direction you are going on i can save you a lot of money on correspondentses there. A woman i used to watch. Her name is pennism shes perfect for cnn. Music is good. Hamsters are good, birthday parties are real [cheers and applause] jon welcome back. Listen to this gay marriage is now legal in places like new york, massachusetts, california, you know, the gay states. [laughter] but how long until the rest of the nation sees the light . Al filed this report. State after state is racing to legalize gay marriage but the real question is not who will be next its who will be last . Statistician nate silver. States probably the slowest to move towards legalization are mostly in the south, what we call the deep south, in particular alabama and mississippi are maybe the last two. When you went to mississippi, what do you find . Benoit to mississippi. What about alabama . You went to alabama . Im not been to alabama. And you call yourself a stat tissation. Think its interesting to add color to a story. Of course, alabama and mississippi. So who is it going to be . Cletus or betus. It was time to see which one of these backwoods inbred, homophobic states will swim against the tide of history longest. Well see who has the intolerance edge. From the state with segregated sore roarities alabama lawyer doug jones. With regard to samesex marriage, alabama will be the last state if we ever ratify. And in the other corner from a state with the Confederate Flag inside their own state flag Mississippi State columnist. Mississippi will be last and get there kicking and screaming all the way. I wish it werent true but it is. Time for a good Old Fashioned intoleranceoff. We passed an amendment saying not only can you not have samesex marriage you cant have any form of civil union that looks like a marriage. Mississippi was the last to pass the amendment that outlawed slavery. Alabama constitution mandates separate schools for white and colored students. You said colored . Oh, yeah. Is this tough . Its tough. Where does alabama stand on sodomy . Its a class a misdemeanor in this state. In mississippi its a felony. Serious . Im surprised a gay couple can get a Fishing License in mississippi let alen a marriage license. Did you say fisting . Fishing license. That makes sense. Picking a winner is tougher than i thought. I hired two stunt performers playing real live gaze. We would capture the intolerance of rednecks to acts of simulated gayness. The state with the least tolerance wins. Round one the gay pda test. Okay. No one seemed to notice. Maybe we were being too subtle but then in alabama it happened. Punk rock gay color. Thats cool. Yall really dig each other. Its beautiful, man. bleep bleep . What the bleep was that. Mississippi you have a huge opening here. Lets see what you gotti state fair got at this state fair photo booth. One, two, three. Okay. Look at that. That will be mighty nice on the wall. Yea. Come on, really even the salty old carney was progay. Surely two gays at a livestock show will do the trick. Nothing . Thats it. Well settle this the Old Fashioned way in a waffle house. Yall want everybody to know we met two years ago at a wafl house and i want to say waffle house and i want to say, michael, would you marry me. No you are not. If you would do in this is special to me. Yes [ applause ] thats clapping . Okay mississippi last chance to bring some at authentic antgay venom. Would you marry me . Yes, yes [ applause ] seriously, these are the two gayest states in the union. I was owed an explanation. [laughter] how was your trip, sir . Um, super gay. Even if these states 30 of people might support gay marriage. I watched two men propose to each other in a waffle house, you know what happened . What happened . There was an applause break. Alabama might as well be blowing mississippi right now. Have you seen them on the map . They are kind of butt to butt there alabama and mississippi that is true. Glad you said it. For all of our attempts to stereotype southerners for stereotyping gay people they showed us they wont be beput into a box unless thats what they a int int [cheers and applause] jon quoal back. My guest welcome back. My guest tonight congresswoman from florida. Her book is called call to the next generation, a wake up to solving our nations problems. Pleads welcome Debbie Wasserman schultz. Nice to see you. You, too. Jon how are you . Hanging in there. Jon how is things going busy . A little intense. A couple things going on. Jon the book is called for the next generation. Which clearly says to me you have given up on our generation. Our generation has so disappointed you you thought well forget them you guys take care of it. [ laughter ] gotta at least try toll focus on the future. If we cant salvage this. Yes. Jon you are a proponent of governments role obviously in helping to improve peoples lives, safety net. I believe i would agree with you on that premise. Has this been a good run for that belief system . [laughter] or a slightly cold water gatorade. Its been a little bumpy for those of us that think that government is not all of the problem and can be part of the solution. Government actually can be a positive force in peoples lives but we cant rely on government for everything. We have to strike a balance. Jon in your mind because boy did the republicans. They handed the democrats a golden opportunity by being crazy people. [ laughter ] well jon and then so you could have established this. What happened . What if the mechanism is going wrong and is this too large an issue for government to be involved in . What happened . You would think because i chaired the Democratic National committee that i would agree with you that the republicans handed us the golden opportunity. Politcally i think they did themselves some serious damage. But the reality is they dramatically jeopardized our economy, they broke government even worse than people think it already is and weve got to get it back on track. The highway or the highway poll tikdzs has to stop. Jon this is the student i speak of. Exactly. Jon theyre behavior over the last couple of years has been somewhat n. I. H. Ilistic. That being seed how do the democrats seize that mantle of confidence and those sorts of things . I hope when people read my book that they treat it as a road map for how they can get engaged well. He need real foam sound an alarm bell. Politician allowed home itselves to be strangled by the tea party. The tail is wagging the dog. Jon you think you were going to say we need real people i thought they were robots. They have robotic like tendencies. It cant always be my way. You have to reach across the aisle and Work Together. We need moms to get involved whether its education or health care or Immigration Reform or the economy. And choose the issue that they care about the most. And try to include and get involved influence and get involved in that issue so they can make a difference. Because if we let these things go our kids are really going to suffer. Jon obstructionism aside and i know it makes it harder and certainly for them they have no stake in seeing it succeed. Knowing that that is part of the equation, what do you think went wrong on the i dont want to say the democrat side but the administrative side where this great opportunity to roll out this the incredible initiative for health care goes so south when it could have really, not put the nail in the coffin of obstructionism but demonstrated this is what were talking about in terms of being able to be helpful to the citizens. Any time you have a major change in any system like the health care system, we know there are going to be kinks and bumps. And there have been with the rollout of the Affordable Care act. But at the end of the day what we should be we all have ato agree on one basic premise that everybody has the right to access to Affordable Quality Health care and because we cant steam get republicans to agree on that basic premise they are hell bent on threing every obstacle in the path of trying to make sure that that happens. Yes, theres kinks but in my experience in government, when you have a little bit of trouble implementing a will you, you Work Together to iron out those problems. You dont try to repeal it or delay it 46 times. You dont hold the economy hostage. Jon im not in government but i heard 47 is the charm. Its an old saying i have heard. [laughter] you have ted cruz, marco rubio, mike lee and rand paul who essentially the Mount Rushmore of the tea party doing everything they can to prevent people like me. Im a Breast Cancer survivor. On january 1 people like me will have an opportunity never again be denied coverage for preexisting conditions. Jon theres wonderful things in this health care. You should be able to log on. Peace of mind. Jon yes. For the next generation is on the bookshelves now. Debbie wassermtz. Ultz
