CSPAN Washington This Week April 26, 2014

I want to object to this, and away, because we get into this rate argument about what result whistleblowers should or should not do. No one raises that argument about a 99. 99 of information that is selectively leaked by people in power, whether it is the Deputy Sheriff or the Peoples Defense department or what have you. Profile, andown there was really nasty stuff that was made up that could have gotten, i lost jobs. You look at what they tried to do to Martin Luther king, for god sake. The fbi. You look at that whole record of destroying people. And no one ever throws the argument back. No, lets hold Bradley Manning who told us we were killing civilians, civilians were killed in our name and we made a game of it in iraq. Lets question him or her. Right . Lets challenge that. But the thing ive been trying to call attention this evening, news is normal way covered about National Security and much of Foreign Policy is by that government telling you their side of the story and calling it classified until they leak it. It is those on interminable sources and they shake the debate shape the debate. Yes, would welcome, lets have a standard. Green pointed this out the other day. You look at what is routinely said right now. Take zzero dark thirty. Finally feinstein admitted that their study shows that torture did not make us safer in any way. That there was no defense of torture. Yes, a movie was made with selective leaks from the government. You look at the story of how that movie was made. Zero dark thirty. How they were at a meeting where they honored cia people with the most secret meeting to talk about their mission in what was supposed to be the most secret thing to get bin laden . And movie producers are brought in and are given this information. Are lied to and pass on the lies. This has been going on ever since we have had wars. But we have to get over is that we are so different than all those other countries. We had this all thing about china, right . They do all this cyber stuff. China, right . Now putin, now he is the most evil thing. Russia. So much propaganda. Usell of these governments the same dreary argument National Security. They all say they are making their people safer. They say the people telling the other side art are traitors. You have to get into a basic idea from the founders and i know they were flawed. My wife will tell me on the way home. The fact is they were an Incredible Group of people. What was incredible about them is they knew basic truths. You cannot have an empire and a republic in the same moment. That is key. The whole idea of limited government is if youre going to conquer the world and youre going to have power, you are going to lie. And youre going to engage, messing around the peoples lives, you will become responsible and you will have to torture. So the way you do that is to have the notion of limited government, restraint, the right of the individual. That is why define the opposition to this thing is not liberal or conservative or democrat or republican. I dont know. Snowden is a libertarian. What i see in snowden and the people on the panel are unique individuals in that they care about individual freedom and the integrity of the individual above paying allegiance to some notion of state power. That is the core of the u. S. Constitution and is something we should honor and let me close this evening by thanking you people.
