CSPAN2 2016 Left Forum Opening Plenary August 22, 2016

With various bodies, economic bodies being formed, et cetera. That is now in the state of collapse. Tragically, but the ideas are still there and people wont forget them. Thats the important thing to remember. Lots of people remember the good things that happened and the good things that were done and when the mood is right, they will come back to them and one of these was to try and unit the south american continent, both against the big brother in the north and and for the people in the south. Simon bolivar couldnt do it. But chavez got a few steps beyond bolivar and they actually began to do it. You know, one can give up simply because they are going through a bad period. I just wanted to add one other thing that Bernie Sanders has done. It has before Bernie Sanders been just impossible for any leading candidate to talk about palestine in a way that is in any way sympathetic and the fact that Bernie Sanders has brought that up and says thats going to be a fight in the democratic platform, hes not going to say what a lot of us would like to say which is cut off every Apartheid Regime but we want evenhanded approach. Final comment, chris . I think the power of sanders is that he gave a verbalized the reality around us in a way that other politicians including barack obama have not done. Economic inequality. Thats a fact. Its a fact that most americans can see every day. And that is a huge breakthrough. On the other hand, i think sand ers and voting records back this up, you cannot understand be a socialist if youre an antiimperrialist and serves to dictates of empire at the expense of citizenry and its not just militarism in terms of madea pointed out that is financially disavowing the country and both parties are guilty of this, creating an ideology, one where we defy and the consequences are fascism that we are seeing in trump rallies and im looking for a candidate that and, of course, its political suicide as judge mcgovern found out but im looking for a candidate that understands that the first step on the road to socialism is the destruction of american imperialism. Thank you all three. Have a great forum tomorrow. See you bright and early. [inaudible conversations] well, i have a variety on the Summer Reading list but its hard to say exactly what it will be because im a spontaneous reader. I have a couple of them going at a time. I thought it was time to pick it up and read it again and im starting to read it right now about a mans journey with son across the country and gets indepth in relation with technology and much broader discussion about some of the issues in the late 70s be are just as relevant today and im reading it because i am going to do a cross michigan motorcycle ride as part of my activities to get in connection with folks, i have a harley davidson. Im going to meet with local journalists. Im going to be at coffee shops and people can join me as we are going town through town. Another book by wilson, Edward Wilson and social conquest of the earth which talks about a humans journey and our development over the years and how individual selection and Group Selection form who we are and talk about how societies are really constructed and are strong as a result of the evolutionary avenues that we have taken as a species and i have just ordered human existences from him and dont we all want to know the meaning of human existences so im looking
