CSPAN2 Book Discussion On Hemp Bound July 6, 2014

[applause] hello. Thinks for coming. I first met dad last year on colorado day august 1st when we found each other in front of the capital hoisting the hemp flag above our capital. I not know if you are aware of that but there is the hemp flag produced in it was an exciting moment. And it was fun to meet him and senator williams since 2006 to see the flag above the capital a and theyd you for writing such an excellent book. [applause] outstanding. And i will let mike takeover and tell you more about the story. Thank you. [applause] that many thanks to linda and many other people part of the Great Movement that culminated colorado the of first state to End Prohibition once and for all [applause] a story on npr and i was sitting at the doughnut shop in southern denver that was just voted the best doughnut shop i dont know if there is a connection in. [laughter] i sent him in the mail and he wrote back and i discovered soon i would be in arizona. And instill a crew of fondness for each other and to our journeys have been to places in to pass the hemp amendment wasting the flag over the u. S. Capitol and weve moved to the needle on where we take this. Colorado does claim the ground to be the state that put this in motion. There is always the straw to break the camels back and colorado will end of prohibition in nationally in the foreseeable future. With that it is a great honor and pleasure i introduce it doug fine a man who has made it didnt and indelible mark on my life who spends his time on his ranch milking goats when not out on the road to help educate the public about the opportunities before us playing an extremely Important Role to change the narrative what we are doing. With that come to the podium. Please welcome doug fine. [applause]. To be mentioned in the lead alone appraised for people that have done as much for colorado if it means a lot to me and this is my third visit here for everybody thanks for having me back. For me to be speaking more than half a dozen people that make this happen as a father and up patriots like Howard Cosell and give a talk about muhammad ali and George Foreman in the audience so i have to get my facts right but also zero not only without them we would not experienced a rebirth of this economy. The way i would like to do this is hemp sees she hopes eventually will go into her hemp coffee. But is almost planting season, a nondenominational whoever you prayed to food did i forget . Thank you for coming tonight and lets talk about hemp. And also there is the family heirloom 1731 us dutch book on hemp paper in pretty Good Condition so thank you for allowing us to have this up here tonight also for the hemp plant for i can feel the Carbon Dioxide being sucked into the atmosphere. [laughter] of hardest part talking about hemp sounds to not sound like your roommate because after two years of research icet in here telling you that your roommate with the law of the lamp was right. How do we get this message across . This year is hemp biggest year possibly in the last 10,000 speak skipping colorado the federal farm bill thank you to the colorado congressman. [applause] allows for University Research of hemp a great first debt for those who have been activist that it might be frustrating only university approved research are approved on the federal level and teeeight agents today at and curiosity . Well come if you are here. [laughter] thank you for coming. Canadians put theirs to work to inspect the crops so we that agents but it is good for america so stop saying silly things about not being able to tell the difference. The farm bill our congress did something in our president signed it. Research is okay for a couple of years that canadians did it now the economy is growing by the billions. 24 per year one of the heros to give the introduction tonight this was last july 4th is a conservative a buyers colorado, not to boulder. [laughter] is a magical years and also a shot out to eric hunter who were involved with that legislative cited is ahead of federal law. We were there at in boulder the first date agriculture accepted permits commercial production of hemp. Colorados says lets go. Lets jeb and is generate the revenue 300 per acre that is 10 times what they are making on gmo korn. Also had a curiosity how many people know about this guy . Because there will be a statue of him one day. Last year said i will publicly planned 50 acres of cannabis in kansas in springfield very conservative county that gets federal subsidies for the old cycle. Now we will show my neighbors that hemp takes half of the water with the wheat he has been growing so his neighbors the reservoir is drying up they could dry copy and make money and get back to the land. He is here. Remember the name. I had no idea when i started researching hemp that instead of laughed out of committee whenever the house would bring the hemp bill for word i would get emails from hemp activists. You get all excited and then the committees are like no. Thats enough. But then it happens right i am back and money taxes this year i have to think congress for being a the marketing piece of the book but more importantly, they made that wish second paragraph come true. My plan that hemp is fully legal is to cultivate 10 acres so my sweetheart no longer has to import from china and the material she already imports in a cynical age we can use one less dire than with like to buy colorado grown hemp for my girlfriend to make these clothes corduroy, shirts, a. [applause] that would be fantastic. One step closer to reality. So leaving with one thought to night in the industry you know, north dakota dakota, kentucky, california farmers are chomping at the bit. They read the journals and know the prices. In farming there is a term that means one crop for more than one far purpose. And hemp is tricropping that is the main theme the aisles and not to ride in the limousine power by hemp. It was very comfortable. [laughter] but i want to seize tricropping. Every colorado processor farmers will bring in their feed, is not complicated complicated, too heavy metal bars pressed together the group that comes out makes a supern food in manitoba they said hemp verses normal corn feed and the result you could just tell by looking on the web site the analysis nutritionally is way higher minerals, in that day dos from the hemp that chickens eight. The omega us super food comes out marketed regionally these. The seedcase makes a fantastic animal food. I know people feed their payouts nothing bad dash and compost all winter. In those that are fed in Washington State paid this are bigger and healthier with a steady there which jibes with the woman im a dad an earlier age and in nebraska issue remembers her daddy grow weighing hemp and along the the irrigation in ditches as erosion control. So not just what we deal with in the heartland but do you know, Subsaharan Africa and then they in the fall they would send out the cattle into they would love it so there is is your seat wheel. The biggest hemp vogel in canada is undergoing there fourth expansion in 10 years he has been in since day number one. And it was not that big of a of factory. Added is one section. There is your own real. The second section is we have tough fiber there in mercedesbenz and bmw. Been easy fiber applications and that is construction it is not Rocket Science to make this light insulation that outperforms chemical and petroleum based. Now, its happening already to austria, there is a great video of a farmer talking about this and how look at the story of germany that basically became Energy Independent fossil fuel free and reduced 30 unemployment to nothing coming in control of their own energy. I would like to see American Communities do that and i would advertise it. Fiber and energy and a kind of to map this out first of all the energy application. We needed to happen. So many people here have read the book collapse. Kind of a scary where in the great civilization documents of what went wrong and it will sound familiar and they share the culture there they were traded from seattle to coaster rica and it looked really good. Its kind of like the deforestation followed by interesting the nut job rightwing leaders the monument all get bigger and its like we need to make a different decision and more competent about this and i feel as though the carbon mitigation blueprint is now in place and so that is my plea for you so make sure that you include energy in your first its what we call the upside of prohibition. We can take with the canadians are doing with such a Great Prophet and theyve even got these varieties ready so side story of what happened, america kentucky was the sort of beacon of the world. Kentucky alone the first millionaire mobile that was a big business in ohio, not so much a colorado but it will be now. And david west had a federal commission do a study in the late 90s, so he wanted to see and he visited virginia and it was an Indiana Jones seen about a warehouse within the warehouse kind of in the back create in the box it was a couple of bags so this industry thats so important to us we have to start from scratch and people in this room are starting that research now. But we can take the industry from canada into the fiber knowledge and this third Energy Component would make them in the first generation. This doesnt put the fiber in the historic panels because they are storing peace signs and wearing tiedyed. It is an easily accessible and reliable, inexpensive source of strong light material. That is the age we live now. And so it was really soft. And the company that provides this date been at it for 20 years and even they have their harvesters each year based on the process so im backing up a little bit and a sandwich your roommate with a lava lamp because it is a learning curve but if you know how the fifth generation colorado ranching family, they know how to do it its not Rocket Science when it comes to see i you and that is where you should be starting. The canadians to the research for their farmers and the issue of importation you need to make sure the federal agencies honor the new federal law and allow the colorado farmers to import to see. [applause] and another issue is University Research has been approved by the fed they are trying to bring the tax base back and Colorado State u. Should be on the ball with these farmers to be conduct in the research so that we can get to this industry backed up. They cant wait until you are planting the seeds. They have a prophylactic dam that we should do as well but i would rather see Boulder County have the regional process that i could buy at my foo my food coy farmers market. Chinas president visits their factories instead of using taxpayer money so why would chinas president do that . The reason is that cotton provides the worlds pesticides anand so they are poisoning poie soil and losing productivity and know whats going on. My friend has become an advocate and in the world the softness of a shirt but you would be able to buy at the mall some teenage girl put it together and got poisoning or who knows whatever. So its going to be very soft. It reminds me of a seinfeld episode where George Costanza for one tenth the upper hand in his relationship ended when he loses that he complains and says youre going to need it. [laughter] china is going into the hemp fiber because they have to. So the Legal Industry lets hope one day as i say it is and Rocket Science. You could do it. There are some great consultants at the end of the book i have a list of sound and there ar somee coming online and some great ones here tonight. We will be stepping outside after the qanda. So it is just in magical super food. Totally amazing because of it. We cant eat enoug keep enough s stuff. The guy the canadian crop and has a mentioned before it will be for the farmers in the next year. I. Eyear. I am a smalltime rancher or so when i was interviewing the canadian had mobile i said what about people like me, i have 40 acres and what is legal in mexicmexico by what we have 20. If you are under a thousand acres you are a hobby farmer. But thats how they do it out there. Thats how you do it in nebraska and colorado and thats fantastic and thats fine. Im doing the math here. Its nothing than what other people to declare they are profiteering 300 per acre so if it is a minimum thousand acres at 300 per acre, okay. Feel free to change this by the millions but that is more than i needed book sales in my entire career than the farmers are making on one year crop. I dont think you need to do a thousand acres. They were doing everything they could to get legal to the people and ended downwards chapter they told me dont let people say that its got to be its got to be a billiondollar industry. You have a Network Growing at tenten,15, 20 acres. You could have a serious communal industry, profitable one, too but when we are working together and own a processor that can work as well and im in the middle ground on this. I am fine with finding people. Thats fine as long as its not im going to personally try to choose the Regional Sports and grow it myself in a sort of checkerboard fashion. My goods cant wait by the way. They tell me that during the morning meditation. [laughter] a lot of people believe that its true. I do start every day meditating and it was one of the reasons i was thinking i forgot to mention Samantha Walsh and all of the people like jason especially that to the legwork and got this industry going here thats going to show the world what the plan has to offer humanity. They are dealing with human beings with all kinds of energy and backroom deals and all that kind of stuff and i just sitting there with goats on a ranch with calls to each other on either side. So thank you people in the trenches that made this happen. On the fiber side, people that i like and want to see, bless you publishers and of the Vermont Company that had 100 cycle paper and they are going for it. They tried to make it happen on the First Edition and it simply isnt there anymore. This cannot happen on the paperback you can do it in the special edition that one of the things they are doing now in colorado and in the website sponsoring a colorado farmer and there will be a contest to grow the fiber that can go into future editions and that may seem a little bit wild, but at the Education Center of winnipeg canada, the private Industry Partnership and the government industry supporting the deal they are putting the fiber in the field and they need to do something with the fiber and this is a tractor built entirely out of hand and it is outperforming the petrol classic in every way. You could take it. Its strong. They are not political. They are scientists trying to figure out what applications work and i want to say that my online handle i offer for a small franchise fee could you see that its built from the hemp that the colorado will harvest so that its the plan. But a lot of people told me that the first generation thats where the money is. If you dont have the skills to do the sophisticated textile stuff by the way show of hands how many people know that the parachute saved his life when he bailed out of world war ii was made out of hemp . So construction is an easy kind of low maintenance application. The tests are going on in the universities in canada especially are showing as i mentioned earlier a mixture of wine and not only do they create longlasting homes but pink insulation and they are starting to be developed in low bearing applications as well, so i call the people that are building these all over england, Profitable Company called british Land Technology and they have a subsidiary in the u. S. , i think that it is a Good Entrepreneurial opportunity for the farmers to just chalk up your fiber and sold them to the construction industry. Anyway, what it has done right is that create and easy to pack long toxic as you may know it has to be heated up thousands of degrees. So i asked in the book is a nobrainer into subdivisions he said it is a nobrainer for anybody that is maintaining the structure or the development that they are building. If you are just looking to do if you are just starting to flip stuff with whatever is cheapest and god knows what toxicity and drywall and all that, today in europe it is a talk up on the initial cost of energy and durability and lower maintenance of the structure if you are thinking even five years ahead, it is a nobrainer. But i went on the site in canada that they want to provide as lowincome housing folk folks fe north annorth and they are findt it is extremely guess what they found in hawaii, it is extremely termite resistant. The housing minister that was giving me the tour i asked them at the construction if they had collected a paycheck what it was like to build with hemp insulation and they said once we got it figured out it was the best job that weve ever done. It was quick and beautifully and you could paint right over it. Even though we are in the middle of building a house we can tell as it goes up but it took a couple of days of experimenting with this mixture of hemp and wine to find that consistency. It took a couple of days and it was easy to work with and its kind of light and fluffy, not sticky. And yes it took a couple of days of experimenting to find their ideal mixture. That is the most cynical thing i can tell you about the application but a long time activist told me the belief that construction will be the first fiber. Personally its embarrassing to me we have 30 of the farmers when the prohibition started in 1937 and now we have 1 of American Farmers and we can speculate all we want about the causes of this but the bottom line is that as much as we want to idealize farming they are trying to make a living like everybody else and if what they are doing is great for the earth which it is, t
