I began to really understand, i had like basically removed a lot of my case. I had to go on with my life and i had to let it go. And i was reminded of this man who called for the reinstatement of the Death Penalty, specifically for our case. People wanted us to be hanging from trees in central park, you know . And it was the same blood thirsty miss that i began to really connect with in understanding that had this been the 50s, had this been the 40s, had this, i mean, had this been the earlier part of the 60s they would have broke our doors down, drug us from our homes, and we would have become some of those they turned them into postcards and they call them picnics, but it was a picnic of the picture of black and brown folks burned at the stake with their members cut away from them. And many of them had been hung. And i began to really understand how devious the system is that we are fighting. This isnt just about say, well, you know there are some people who are criminals and so forth and so on. This is about how the central park five plays a part of this history of injustice that has gone on, and that continues to go on if we dont do anything to the instant of time. This is about us dismantling the system that continues its wheels of justice rolling down the hills of which we are climbing. And i realized that you cant theres a whole bunch of things that need to happen, and many of us get it. I looked around the room as i came in and i said wow, im in a room full of comrades. I see friends and family. I mean, i know a lot of people in this room. This dismantling that we are about, this system is rotten to the core. Theres no conforming. Theres no adjusting. We need to demolish this whole system and begin a new one. Because the way that things have been going [applause] i mean, i sit on the board of the campaign to end the Death Penalty, and losing troy davis was hard. I spoke to troy. I will never forget, i was in chicago and martini came up to me and she said, troy is on the phone. And i felt a little nervous speaking with him, but i spoke to him. And i had so much hope and so much tremendous like the feeling was like, hes going to be one of those that escapes. And then, of course, we got the word. And it became clear that we are fighting the same system of injustice that put black and brown folks on postcards and send them out to the rest of the world as if they were having a picnic. [applause] i want you to in join me in thanking our panelists. [applause] i think that how we win, and if you the words come those that just spoke, we win when we find a deep within us the belief that we can. We have enough power in this room to win. And we all it to troy davis. We owe it to martina. We owe it to his family, and we owe it to us to win. So today is the day we choose that we can, and then we do win. I want you to again join me in thanking the panelists. [applause] we are new the end of our eating. Again i want to thank you. I want to have a moment of silence before i do what we like to call our call to action, to the moment of silence for troy and want to have it for martina. And i want us to bring their energy and virginia and troys mom, martinez mom, virginia. I want us to bring their energy, them, here with this. Can we do that . Can we do that . We have the power. The power is ours. We demand justice. We will get justice. Today is the day. We do it for troy. We do it for martina and window for every troy whose name we will never know. Today we win. Today we choose. Today we choose justice. It is ours. No more dead bodies. No more lives stolen. No more injustice. And injustice to one is an injustice to all, and we have all had endured an injustice. We are heartbroken and we have cried and we have mourned, and we are in pain. We are hurting. I am hurting. The folks on this panel, they are hurting. And we will weep and we will cry, but we will fight. And we do it knowing that we dont stand alone. Troy Anthony Davis is in this room.
