CSPAN2 Book Discussion On Preservation And Purpose November 16, 2015

1 2 to read mitt and had a little bit of a millennial in the manifesto i cannot make it past page number six. It is worth it you will spend the entire evening the tissue will want to underline and make a note to the virgin. He just turned 30 and is already a white house in turn, a talkshow host on radio drive tied and a preacher at the age of 30. At the age of 36 i have not done any of those. His story is compelling and inspirational to get to his strength and help. I have a little commercial. This evening is brought to you by a grant from the foundation of which we are most grateful i have to give another psa after our speakers opening remarks he will take questions. When you ask why not put the microphone. Now is my sincere pleasure to introduce to you demetrius minor. [applause] good evening. My friends gathered here this evening thank you for the invitation i am honored. It all started april 1st 2014, of the day before avocet to relocate to an atlanta and georgia for newport news. And remember read father telling me to come downstairs there is an important matter with parents wanted to discuss. I thought they would tell me how much they would miss me and i embrace myself for moms never ending list of things they need to accomplish. But i could not possibly prepare myself for what was coming. As i sat down my father uttered the words that would turn my world upsidedown, upsidedown, your mother and i are not your biological parents. For a very first time i had no idea where was. It was revealed my birth mother because she had succumbed to a lifestyle of prostitution, drugs, alcohol prostitution, drugs, alcohol , violations with the law was either financially risky prepared to raise a child. However she did not allow her for life choices to prevent her from allowing a loving family to raise a safe and healthy environment in this revelation the preservation and purpose was born and i realized i had a story to share with the potential to not only impact putting courage others to realize their lives were preserved by almighty god. But it isnt just me. Many within this millennial generation that has testimonials of their own reservations. Weld background mayberry very i am convinced we have been preserved to help preserve this great nation. America can be preserved. She must be preserved but it will take more than Campaign Rhetoric and politicians and require this generation is intelligent and creative in many ways to implement the servant ideas. But conservatism must be mortgages voting records a resurgence of a revival of morality is in order because when it is neglected in one area it is neglected in one area of life it comes in another part. The demand for government for fiscal discipline but we dont practice in our own lives. It isnt attractive when we demand loyalty to yet no will to our own families. Conservative with some is the question for small and limited government for those cot politicians contrast themselves per our generation has been preserved for this purpose to serve a call that is much greater than ourselves while the media will seek a highlights of what divides us we can scope to Higher Ground to put an emphasis of what brings us together. Black or white or latino or richard for, a democratic republican, liberal or conservative we have been given gifts and talents given to us by god himself and his up to us to utilize the purpose entrusted with the nets. While the purpose is to lead the country back to the principles and values she was founded upon, it happens in different ways. You may help in your church to serve in the clergy or others through the medical field as a doctor or a nurse or physician but then some could find it through government after all politicians need to remind themselves they are merely public servants. The knows someone in your could be the next speaker of the house and by the way things are currently going many that happen sooner rather them later. We can change the narrative of a cultural and political divide emplace. We can do this without featuring a rebellious but what we must be willing to do is to provide alternatives to the Mainstream Media and the hollywood elite that seeks to define the cultural status. Well testify that narrative that america is a racist nation and were intolerant of other beliefs and our desire to be respectful we must not disavow our allegiance because it is the component of for individuals and our nation. I myself would not join in the course that the glory days are the afterthought for gore still believe with gods grace our nations greatest are still ahead. We will survive. We will see americas server great purpose not just nationally but internationally because of the individuals and as Margaret Thatcher once said in 1979, two weeks prior to her alexian, we remain as we always have been, a force for freedom even weakened the last few years but still with the fires burning d burninp from within ready to be kindled to go forward again. And if anyone is to doubt or question the validity me simply remind you of the divine promise given in the holy scripture but i have raised to up for this very purpose i will show you my power and that my name may be proclaimed and all the arab. All the earth. [applause] i read the book that is fantastic but i know your parents was it what was it like the next two years is lost her identity . It is very ironic you ask me a question. This past february i dont want to give too much city by the book but my birth mother and my adoptive mother died two weeks from each other and to date with death of my birth mothers birthday. That normal rational response to distance itself but i did not want to do that because there is the purpose for all of this sector gladly stand before you to say i never relationship with my biological brothers and sisters like we are friends. And this past june, one of my biological brothers his son and neece come up until one year ago i did not know they existed. You dont know what can you fall off from a circumstance with the mentality is preserved for purpose. I am still in the process of finding stuff out how many brothers and sisters . I have no idea. [laughter] but in the process of learning and growing it is easier said than done. Did the dance your question . Whats next . Improbably going to eat after this. [laughter] i am finishing up my degree i have three classs. And of course, stay uptodate with the election. Without giving too much away how did to make it from white house intern to the talkshow . I did in turn under the bush administration. But how did i make that leap . I was in class board out of my mind so if the average college and i opened facebook. I opened up the chat to make the time go by imake the time go by i notice the name tony powers. I said i dont remember him sunday reaffirmed request but who is the . As the lead one to be rude but how do i know you . He began to tell me we have mutual friends in common and ask what i was studying. He said interesting i am a political talk show host in town and i am looking for a producer. [laughter] ill be honest and how formic of experience i am probably not your guy. Is and ill tell you everything it needs to be done within a couple of months you can have your own show. He took me 2pf qings. When can i start . Gore may chinese . I was not satisfied with my current job i wanted to do something that i enjoyed. He said you can be my producer and whenever you feel comfortable you can have your own show. So it fell out of a blue sky Degeneres Don me as a young kid and god opens the door. Have you met the last two president s . I had the opportunity to meet president bush threw the internship and i was of the hell bent i was so happy this seat senator dick durbin and then senator barack obama. I remember senator obama saying nice to meet you. What brings you to washington . The conversation became very brief after that. But that was a cool moment. I do have books available for purchase politicians always tried to cater to us are those from previous generations talk about the voice of the millenials we talk to each other and share our own stories. Its the people that are not in this room that are millenials that can contribute to and if we dont reach our own, who will . [inaudible] that is a very good question and i think millenials are pessimistic towards religion for many reasons as bad experiences, church and the Civic Community have had a negative mindset toward the millenials that were viewed they think they are smarter than the us and the humility approach. When i had interaction with millenials better not religious warm at least we hope to find Common Ground but in the midst of conversation to build a relationship and a compromise my beliefs to satisfy them and still thank you can build a relationship with people. I just tried to have the best life style that i can to back up my beliefs i find it much more hopeful you even have to tell your political ideology. [inaudible] no. [laughter] but i love washington d. C. A love of five the by bin for a couple of days of the climate and im glad to get out and have tried to come back in every door was shut. [inaudible] what would you advise millenials i guess i am accomplished were all unique and individuals but what do you recommend how to be successful . Ice the offer your own stories in be unique but what is your advice . Absolutely. Is to be unique and to be confident and everyone in here has a testimonial. But to build a personal relationship we focus on building the of voter database. So we wonder why we cant grow the party because if you wait until the election cycle to build a relationship i wouldnt want to. So try to find what it is to have in common because it is so easy to say this person is an atheist or i dont like sports. Dont get me wrong. We are defined by the associations that we keep so we do have to be careful but if we ever want to grow the party or spread conservative is of we have to step outside our comfort zone. That is what i think. [inaudible] let me say this. We had the governor of our states my church is predominantly africanamerican we had a white republican governor and senator and i had at least two people that vote staunchly democrat to say i am going to vote for the governor parker really . Why . He showed up. That simple. And then to tell his family he became a republican did not go so well. He said he would not believe it. One step at a time. [laughter] but it starts with that parker showing up and being involved. I dont think it is rocket science. But that is how you grow relationships. Can you talk about your own similar experience . The 2000 election, my godfather is africanamerican and said i would never try to tell you how to vote for just the tissue where black does not mean you have to be democrat. That triggered something. I was a political. So i went home to do Maya Research and by golly i am conservative. And on the right to a persons. [laughter] that is how i became conservative. But my initial interest in politics was in part because of the clintons and lewinsky because as a young child i would read the newspaper. Is this really happening . You to imagine in them and explain that to their son. Following up on the excellent point , a lot of people here are starting their careers. If there would like to ask your vice right now that would be a good time. Actually have another question. Reince priebus gave a report of the 2012 election and where we went wrong is a diagnosis reduce the the minorities . I dont know if you ever read the book by the Barack Obama Campaign manager their bid to reach out to that generation through facebook and twitter. In the state of georgia i am involved which is a subdivision. I think we have a great message just horrible messengers. We do it all we can. I believe it starts with, for so long the g. O. P. Approach the minorities, we have a lot in common. For the most barberry spiritual minded sort you walked in with the mentality to focus on what they agree instead of four brings the support we could be successful and case in point just by the governor to show up to our church that had a very positive mindset of minority members. Talk about issues like criminaljustice for example, was a lady in our church to months ago said i love you prepare your republican but i still love you. [laughter] i said that me ask you a few questions. Do you believe in School Choice . Yes. Prolife. Traditional marriage. Congratulations your more conservative than you think. Right there. I am not saying she will vote republican but i built a relationship and built in interest so now she will come back and want to talk about issues and candidates i dont say all your democrat you are down. We are so quick to give people a history. That is very important it is vital to our existence so what you doing now . People dont want to hear about the 1800s. They will know how it is affecting their family and impacting bear community. You just have to talk to people. They will not bite. Myself and my peers are recent College Graduates as never accomplished so much never accomplished so much in so many areas that the young age so what advice would you give to someone who doesnt know what they want to do with their life yet. I have been there. First of all, talking about jobs and careers, i cannot tell you what your purpose is as that will come to you over time think about what is it that i am passionate about . What drives me . You should exercise those key question is you will get an idea. I will encourage you you will see some resistance at first and the results dont come all the way the you about but dont lose faith because of god calls you to do that it will come to that. Talking about minority engagement specifically with senator paul. As far as that on a domestic issue i think he has done a fine job for example, Howard University he has taken on the jack kemp so to speak and i applaud him. He talks about criminal Justice Reform in things that are so vital to the Africanamerican Community. That is great but every conservative should be doing that as it is part of our platform. But he has done a great job. My governor. Sort of is a National Figure for criminal Justice Reform within the Africanamerican Community and also Fon Community and also for trying to fix the failing schools he is a just from the left but from within his own circles. When you want to change you want to start fresh that everybody is on the same page. Thinks for coming. Feel free to check him out and his book. Also this is living proof that good things cant come out of facebook because this is where i first met him. [laughter] this evening was also brought to us by the Fresco Foundation of which we are grateful. We will develop an e mail relationship thanks for joining us. Have a good night. [applause]
