[applause] the new british Prime Minister takes part in his first queson time. Mister sue neck became britain at 57th trimester replacing lose trust who held the position briefly. You are watching live coverage on connell . Mister speaker, what is the secretary of states response to allegations following her appointment by ben cohen of pink use . If i may, i know Everyone Wants to start so please forgive me if my answer is a tad longer than it would be. Im afraid this particular individual is someone who uses twitter as a tool for defamation, he has even sued people in this house like attenborough west. What i would like to say as we begin a new era is the equality act as a shield, sword, to protect people all characteristics whether young or old, male or female, black or white, gay or straight, we are running compassionate equality strategy and should not be distracted by people who use twitter to insult or accuse members of parliament. Before we come to Prime Ministers question, the british silent which interpretation proceedings is available to watch on live tv, we start with questions for the Prime Minister. Minister. [shouting] this mr. Speaker, dont damage the furniture, cheer him by all means but, on. This morning i had meetings with ministerial colleagues and others in addition to my duties, i shall have further such meetings later today. I would like to congratulate the Prime Minister on his new post as being the first Prime Minister, are because of great pride among many of my constituents. I also have some pride in welcoming of fellow southampton supporter into number 10. During his Prime Ministerial campaign, he pledged to prohibit any development of onshore wind which is now the cheapest form of power available to us in the country, now he is Prime Minister. Will he change his mind on that point . I think the honorable gentleman for his kind words and look forward to seeing him at st. Marys although the leader of the house may have something to say but when it comes to energy policy. What we said in our manifesto the important thing is to focus on longterm energy security, that means more renewables, more offshore wind and more nuclear. That is what this government will deliver. I am surprised to be asking a question, you, like many people thought i would already have the ministerial post. [shouting] let me tell you, i did hold my breath. Go figure. As joe biden might say. Can i congratulate my right honorable friend on becoming Prime Minister, absolutely the right person for the job. I wish him the best, he has my full support. His two immediate predecessors made a key part of their agenda, will he reaffirm his commitment, starting the means to go on . I am grateful to my honorable friend, must be the only person who texted me to say he did not want a job but i can give him my commitment to leveling up particularly in yorkshire and obviously he will know i cant comment on individual bids but by the end of the year an announcement is expected and i wish him every luck with that. The leader of the opposition. Thank you, may i welcome the Prime Minister, the first British Asian Prime Minister is a profound moment in our National Security and a reminder for all the challenges we face as a country britain is a place where people of all races and beliefs can fulfill their dreams. That is not true in every country. Many didnt think they would live to see the day that it would be true here. It is what makes us all so proud to be british. Was his home secretary right to resign last week for breach of security . Prime minister. I think the gentleman for his kind energy, generous welcome, i look forward to Prime Ministers question time with him and i know we will have robust exchanges and hope they can also be serious and grown up so i look forward to that. He asked the home secretary made an error in judgment and recognized that, raised the matter and accepted mistakes and that is why i was delighted to welcome back into a united cabinet that brings experience and civility to the heart of government and let me tell you the home secretary will be focused on cracking down on criminals, safeguarding our borders while the Party Opposite remained soft on crime and in favor of unlimited immigration. Mr. Speaker, yesterday the Prime Ministers start on the steps of downing street and promised integrity, and accountability but his first act, he appointed a home secretary who was sacked by his predecessor a week ago for deliberately picking around sensitive documents of personal accounts. Far from soft on crime, i ran the Prosecution Service for five years. I worked with home secretaries to take on terrorists of Serious Organized Crime and i know firsthand how important it is we have a home secretary whose integrity and professionalism are beyond question. Have officials raised concerns about his decision to appoint her . With the home secretary, he talked about fighting crime. I would hope, mister speaker, that he would welcome, i would hope he would welcome the news today that there are 15,000 new Police Officers on our streets and the home secretary will be supporting them to tackle burglaries, the Party Opposite will be backing the lunatics protesting french that are stopping working people. Listen carefully, that was clearly not a no. We can all see what happens here. He is is so weak, he has done a grubby deal praising National Security because he was scared to lose another leadership election. Theres a new tory at the top but always with them party first, country second. Yesterday, on the steps of downing street he admitted what the whole country knows. The tories have crashed the economy and now somebody has to pay for their mess. I say it shouldnt be working people who have been hammered time and again, but those with broader shoulders must step up. Those he agree . The honorable gentlemen talked about party first and country second. Perhaps he can explain why it was a few years ago, he was supporting them over from Arlington North. [shouting] mr. Speaker, my record is clear. When times are difficult in this country i will always protect the most vulnerable. That is a value, we did it in covid and we will do it again. Lets test that. The government currently allows very rich people to live here but register abroad for tax purposes. I dont need to explain to the Prime Minister how status works, he knows all about that. It cost the treasury 3. 2 billion pounds every year. Why doesnt he put his mouth where his money where his mouth is and get rid of it . Mister speaker, we will have to take difficult decisions to restore economic stability and confidence and my honorable friend will set that out in just a few weeks. What i can say, as we did during covid we will always protect the most vulnerable. We will do this in a fair way. I am glad the Party Opposite honorable gentlemen has finally realized spending does need to be paid for. It is a Novel Concept for the Party Opposite. This government is going to restore economic stability and we will do it in a fair and compassionate way. I know he has been away a few weeks but should have listened to what has been going on. I have to say i am surprised he is still defending nondobbs basin. He pretends hes on the side of working people but in private he says something very different. Over the summer he was secretly recorded at a garden party in cambridge wells boasting to a group of tory members that he personally moved money away from deprived areas to wealthy places instead. Rather than apologize or pretend he meant something else, why doesnt he now do the right thing and undo the changes that he made to those funding formulas . Mr. Speaker. [laughter] i know the right honorable gentlemen rarely leaves north london. But if he does, if he does, he will know there are deprived areas in Rural Communities and coastal communities and across the south, and this government will relentlessly support them because we are a government that will deliver to people across the united kingdom. He mentioned the last few weeks. Im the first to admit mistakes were made and that is the reason im standing here but that is the difference between him and me. This summer i was talking good, i was being honest about the difficulty we were facing, so when he ran for leader, he promised his party he would borrow billions and billions of pounds. I told the truth for the good of the country. He told his party what it wanted to hear. Leadership is not telling fairytales. It is confronting challenges and that is the leadership the british people will get from this government. Mr. Speaker. Every one should watch the video and make their own minds up. In public he claims he wants to level up the north but then he boasts about trying to vital final investments away from deprived areas. He says one thing and does another. They are not my words. They are not my words. They are the words of the former chair of the tory party sacked yesterday for telling the truth about the Prime Minister. Even his own side knows hes not on the side of working people. That is why the only time he ran in a competitive election he got trounced by the former prime mr. Who herself got by a lettuce. Why doesnt he put that working people have their say and call a general election . [shouting] mister speaker. It will take a long time to carry through if we carry on that way. He talked about mandates, about elections, coming from the person who tried to overturn the biggest democratic election in our countrys history and our mandate is based on the manifesto that we were elected remind him that we won and they lost. A mandate which says we want a stronger nhs, better schools, safer streets, control of our borders and leveling up. Thats the mandate i and this government will deliver for the british people. You want more . Come en. I would like to congratulate my right honorable friend, the new Prime Minister and to thank our previous Prime Minister for the straightforward way she handled her resignation and i wish her and her family well. With my right honorable friend use his first appearance to make it clear to the British Medical Council and the British Dental Association that as well as training more training spaces open up they must allow new doctors and dentists to work in the uk so people can get treatments from the nhs . I thank my honorable friend for question, shes absolutely right. 31 2,000 more doctors and more nurses working this year but she is right and we are working to simplify the registration for dentists in particular who are not trained here to practice it and that is why will deliver the longterm and everyone will get the care they need. The leader of the s p, ian blackburn. I congratulate the new Prime Minister, the significance of the symbolism of this achievement is to be welcomed by everyone. Mister speaker, yesterday on the steps of downing street the new Prime Minister promised to bring compassion to the challenges we face today. So lets put that to the test. A wind turbine test is coming and next april, millions, the Energy Price Guarantee hit by austerity 2. 0, to rely on to survive. People trust the new Prime Ministers words of compassion, will he reassure people and guaranty benefits will rise in line with inflation for the upcoming budget . I think of the honorable gentlemen for his kind remarks. My record on this is clear, through the difficult times we face in this country through covid i have always acted to protect the most vulnerable because it is the right thing to do and those are the values our compassionate party, i can reassure him and give him the commitment we will continue like that in the weeks ahead. Lets test that, the Prime Minister presided over having this meeting, i might remind him universal credit was cut by 21,000 and presided over the worst levels of poverty in northwest europe. I hope he has learned from his mistakes and guarantees benefits will rise in light of inflation but speaking of the states yesterday the Prime Minister appointed a home secretary who was forced to resign only last week for breaching the ministerial cause and boasted that she dreamed of sending asylumseekers to rwanda. We all know why he appointed her, a sleazy backroom deal to shore up his own position. Far from being a fresh start, this is a return to the sleaze and scandal of cabinets passed, the Prime Minister promised a Government Integrity and humility. Will he admit his mistake and sacked the home secretary without any delay . I was pleased to have a call with the first minister of scotland. It was import i spoke to her on my first day in office because i want to express my desire to work constructively with the Scottish Government so we can Work Together to deliver for the people of scotland and that is what i plan to do and i hope crime is one of the things we can collaborate on because he will know Violent Crime is rising in scotland and Police Numbers are falling whereas here we are increasing Police Numbers. I look forward to working with the Scottish Government on our shared challenges because i believe in a strong united kingdom. What a pleasure it was to welcome the Prime Minister to my constituency in the summer. He will know one of the burning issues in my constituency is the proposed waste incinerator, will the government, reviewing their airquality targets, can i ask my right honorable friend to continue promoting public health, net 0 and the environment by placing a moratorium on any more unwanted unnecessary toxic waste burning. I can tell my honorable friend who campaigned as i learned over the summer, he will know local authorities determine these issues but also to reassure them that all large incinerators in england must comply with strict emission limits and only receive permits if plants dont cause any damage to human health and i hope that is reassuring. The Prime Ministers reckless predecessor took a wrecking ball prompting millions of members of the National Trust and the Wildlife Trust to rise up in opposition, yesterday he promised to fix her mistakes as well and to uphold the 2019 manifesto. If he is a man of his word, when he starts by reversing the green light she gave to fracking since it is not shown to be safe and instead maintain the moratorium pledged in that very manifesto that he promised to uphold. I have said i stand by the manifesto on that but what i want to say is i am proud this government has passed the landmark environment tax, more protection for the Natural Environment than we ever had. And the honorable lady, my commitment that we will deliver on those ambitions, we will deliver on what we said it costs because we care about passing our children and environment in better state than we found ourselves. I would like to welcome the Prime Minister. Farmers in my constituency are delighted that after 20 years they are once more able to sell welsh lands on the us market. Will the Prime Minister comment on the size and prospects of this market for our welsh lands . I congratulate my colleague on a fantastic achievement and i can tell him that market is worth almost 40 million pounds, enormous boost but i would encourage 300 million us consumers to look and as well but i know and i if we disagree on that are united on the fact that we will quickly back british farming and british farmers. Mr. Speaker, this is certainly a topsyturvy tory government. A few days ago i was going to put my question to the former Prime Minister, im full of emails from constituents writing to me about their desperate situation of their wages not going far enough. Im also receiving emails about rates going up, Energy Prices going up, mortgages going up and cost of living is already up. My constituents are writing to me demanding a general election and i absolutely agree with them. Can the Prime Minister tell me and my constituents when there will be a general election . We have addressed that but i said in the summer inflation is the enemy. It makes everyone poor, it erodes savings and it will be a priority of our government to provide support to those who needed as we do. Im launching a Campaign Across thousands of acres of scenic beauty, short streams and valuable habitats that surround the wonderful town of hitchens in my constituen
