Violence continuing today between Israeli Forces and hamas as shelling and air strikes have killed more than 90 people in the gaza strip. Israeli military forces say theyve hit some 80 terrorist sites throughout the territory. Two rockets exploded over tel aviv yesterday. Israels antimissile system stopped them in mid air. But in israel, three people have been killed and another 68 reported wounded. World leaders are hoping to be able to bring an end to the violence through diplomacy. So far israel is threatening to deploy Ground Troops into gaza. If that cant be done, senator john mccain suggested sunday the u. S. Send president bill clinton to help freshet peace since he has handson experience in the middle east. So far the u. N. Secretary general, the French Foreign minister and israeli representatives are trying to come to a resolution along with egyptian negotiators in cairo. Hamas is saying that israel can stop the fighting simply by agreeing to hamas demands. Theyre claiming israel is begging for a truce. A claim that israel vehemently denies. In other lighter news this morning, lets turn back to u. S. Political news where representative alan west is still buried in denial. He won his bid for a recount of early ballots in st. Lucie county but he is still losing when it comes to keeping his congressional seat in floridas district 18. In fact, democratic Patrick Murphy picked up some 300 more votes over the weekend bringing his total to about 2,000. West is still refusing to concede the election saying that he plans to review the result and Additional Data in order to decide how to move forward. Murphy has claimed victory and it is very clear that west is probably all done. Were back with more steph after the break. I was just thinking this morning, they have taken what is an important issue clearly anu important issue ambassador is killed. Americans died. Certainly outstanding questions to be answered about the security of the consulate and what happened and theyve taken this important serious issue and turned it into this joke. Theyve turned it into same with fast and furious and important questions about this gun program and turned it into this joke. And they just scream it over and over to the point where nobody is going to care about anything. In the end nobody cared about fast and furious and in the end im afraid that no one is going to care about what happened to benghazi because theyve turned it into this partisan joke and this entire scandal in the last couple of days, has been reduced to word choice for the intelligence talking points that were given to the white house immediate aftermath. It proves the network wont change. It points to a larger problem for the Republican Party. You say in the wake of romneys loss last week, conservative voices raise concerns about the state of right wing press and how the conservative Entertainment Complex as writer david fromme called it has fleece and exploited followers by purposely misinforming them about the issues of the day. But anyway, quote Steve Schmitt who lamented how much the power and influence of the g. O. P. Noise machine has over republican leadership. It is a big issue for them. It is. It is almost impossible for them to divorce themselves from the right wing media. We heard more criticism of mitt romney particularly the Republican Governors Association going after him for the gift comments he made which was sort of another version of the 47 comment. Theyre saying you cant talk to voters that way. Noy, jindal from you know,endle from louisiana saying this is what the Republican Party has to get away from. Who practically authored the 47 comments . Who cheered romneys gift comments . Fox news, rush limbaugh. They love this stuff. I wrote about it during the campaign. You know. Republican operatives who run campaigns for a living and know or think they know how to win independent voters look at fox news and say you are killing us. You are driving the party into the ground. You cant you cant do blunt. You cant win National Elections or statewide elections and follow the fox news formula because it turns so many people off. Next four years, thats what theyre going to having to grapple with. Stephanie you get to the crux of it. Oreilly hannity theyre drawing seven and eight figure salaries. You think theyre going to change fox news so the g. O. P. Can better communicate with independents and pick up senate seats, think again. They answer to nielsen. Obamas presidency has been good to the g. O. P. Noise machines. Bottom line, it is possible conservatives last week were only angered because they were the ones suckered about i the doom narrative pushed by the conservative press because fox kept its viewers wrapped in a gauzy bubble about a country that lost regard for its president. So you know, when the reality turned out to be the opposite, as you said, this screen shot summed it up perfectly on rush limbaughs web site. Everything except the poll points to a romney landslide. Everything except the debt and everything except common sense. They were really upset that they were misled. They thought romney had it in the bag. Obama was going to lose in a landslide so the question is not were they just yep sut base they were upset because they were misled by the election or are they genuinely upset about having a conservative movement that is chronically misinformed about as i wrote you know, the issues of the day. Not just about polls. Not just about campaigns. But about everything. And if that is if they understand that thats a longterm problem and you cant have a Republican Party that is purposely misinformed. And you know, you mentioned obama has been very good for the bottom line. For fox news and things like that. This is a classic example of how fox news has hijacked the conservative movement, Republican Party. Theyre not interested in getting people elected anymore. Theyre interested in their bottom line. Stephanie they want to feel better. People that watch. I told a story back during the bush years eric, it was a friend of a friend, i walked in, republican. She had fox news on in the house. Somehow the runup after iraq. Shes like well, we found we found weapons of mass destruction in iraq and i was like what . No. Turn off fox news. It is hard for me to believe on either side of the partisan divide you want to be completely misinformed. I guess theres big money in it for fox. It raises the question of why do people watch fox news . Do they watch to be purposely misinformed . Time and again they have been told that this you know, solyndra, fast and furious and benghazi and obamas losing the election. You know, it is sort of like Charlie Brown and lucy. How many times do they realize that nothing that theyre watching on fox is accurate . I dont think there is a time. I think thats why they watch fox news to be purposely and chronically misinformed. I dont think theres ever going to be an ahha moment. There would have been two or three years ago. So it is this very weird it is not the normal relationship that news consumers have with the news organization. Where theyre interested in the truth or maybe you know, a little rose glass view, a little partisan to make them feel better. This is just a total alternate universe that they want to live in. Stephanie you know what i thought summed it up, one romney supporter, when it was the minute it was announced in his whatever, headquarters that he lost, this woman just was shocked. She said what . How could anybody have voted for him for president obama. Because not everybody watches fox news. Thats what i mean. Like you said, it is an alternate reality. Lets dive into the alternate reality. The other thing that i love about that press conference is how president obama uses personal faux outrage to blunt criticism when ed henry asks the question about susan rice. It was more not an attack on her. It was an attack on him. He felt as though how dare you how dare you do this. It seemed a bit condescending. It was exactly the opposite. Exactly. It had nothing to do with him. Obama was asking the very plain question. Why are they going after susan rice . Why are they going after the u. N. Ambassador . This benghazi controversy this watergatestyle scandal, you know, revolves around what did someone say on tv six weeks ago . And the other thing the other argument that drove me crazy in the right wing media that was pushed on fox and other places was that obama was defending susan rice because he felt like people were picking on women. Thats not a very modern view on equality. Of course, nothing he said in that press Conference Ever had anything anything to do with the buck stops here. He said it more than once. Stephanie you know what is sexist is having to bring kelly ayotte to your press conference so you dont look like weve got a chick. It was very enlightening in that obama one of the few times he has pushed back hard on any topic really in a personal way and you know, the fox news and the right wing media went bonkers. They claimed he flew off the handle. He was an angry black man or engaging in sexism or the gut they reverse it and claim hes a narcissist. They dont know what to make of him when he fights back. Stephanie theres one thing i enjoy more than Newt Gingrich discussing pa pa tray petraeus infidelity malfeasance have been in this administration. I work for a president who every morning at 8 00, he got a briefing. It took him a total of 45 minutes to make a decision to take down the aircraft that was escaping with the terrorists who hijacked. I know what it is like to work for a president who pays attention. Thats not what this administration is, sean. This event would not have transpired as it did. The coverup would have been unnecessary and you might as well have saved four american lives and a diplomatic mission. Stephanie did the beirut bombing not happen on president bushs watch . Ive been tweeting about it. It doesnt really get mentioned that much. You know the Beirut Embassy was bombed in april of 83 64 people dead. The beirut barracks was bombed october of 83. And 220 dead. And in an 18month span, three attacks on the u. S. Embassy or consulate or barracks in beirut. 330 people were killed. What was the National Security response from the Reagan Administration . Nothing. Nothing. Zero. Weinberger was afraid because he didnt want to rile up the arab world and Caspar Weinberger begged reagan to move the marines out of the barracks. He said they were sitting ducks. Reagan refused. 220 marines dead. If ollie north wants to go back and talk about reagan and wants to talk about attacks on the embassies and consulate, he ought to keep in mind over 300 people were killed in beirut.
