FBC Countdown To The Closing Bell January 6, 2014

One, the stock is up about 4. 5 percent right now, thats a gain of about two and a half bucks right now. All right, lets stick with technology. Its that time of year, companies everywhere are gearing up for the annual Consumer Electronics show in sin city, las vegas. The biggest tech party of the year officially going to kick off tomorrow, and guess whos on her way there right now . Liz claman, going to be reporting on the hottest trends this consumer technology. Shes been gearing up for this for quite a while. In the meantime, lets bring in Nicole Petallides on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange taking a look at some tech stocks and which ones are moves today, nicole. Reporter indeed. Lots of fallout from the Consumer Electronics show, but i wanted to tell you about some stocks that are on the move, some with analyst calls that are worth speaking about. Lets start with twitter, right now down about 5 , but this is a 26ipo, Morgan Stanley thinks its worth 33, so theyre really not loving twitter. They think its a niche, theyre worried about Growth Potential and ad revenue. Pandora has been a real performer, performing strongly. Also a gain in listeners and gain in market share which continues to be a real winner. Pandora hit a new high today, it is soaring, it is up 16 . Netflix is slightly lower as is ebay, ebay to the downside, down 2. 5 , and netflix also lower today, so were watching that. Apple, well continue to watch apple, but right nowwits up about 1 and also made a small acquisition. Thats a name to watch as well. Overall, we are seeing some of the tech names here, apple, as i noted, 545 and change right now, so up nearly one full percentage point for apple. But nasdaq, which is the techheavy nasdaq where we talk about the three indices, its the worst performer of the three indices that we follow, down over one full percentage point for this year, 2014, so its been lagging a bit. Back to you. Cheryl nicole, thank you very much. See you in just a little bit. With markets off to a lackluster start this year, when will things start to turn around . Lets get riggt the our floor show, traders at the New York Stock Exchange, the che roup and, of course, the nymex, ben willis standing on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange. We have got some Economic Data today, it was okay. But that is what janet yellen, our next fed chairwoman, is going to be looking at, is certainly how the economy is stacking up. How are you feeling about the econ data youre getting so far . I have to take a look back into asia first, and some of the Economic Data we saw coming out of china was less than stellar, and thats a continuation of a theme, unfortunately. Chinas a very, very important economy in the lynch. Pin of our success going forward, and it continues to appear to be slowing down, and thats not a good sign. That had a direct effect on the japanese market which took it on the chin, down over 2 at one point. That all, again, goes into the effect of the currencies that affect the market. So while not to get too deep into baseball in this discussion, the markets right now are trading on the Central Banks and the effects theyre going to have on the currencies that they underwrite. Right now were seeing a lack of participation from the american investor. Theres really not a whole lot going op. Theres so little activity on the tape, its hard to read the tracks on the tape. So were keeping an eye on the Central Banks and what ms. Yellens about to do and keep an eye on whats going on with abe in japan and the peoples bank of china and what theyre going to do with their currency. Cheryl hey, believe it or i lie got a guest coming up, and were going to be talking about the yen, the dollar and the carry trade. Right into the weeds later on in the show, ben. Lets go over to the cme. Dan, one of the things the feds going to have to watch, were going to be getting the jobs report later on this week, and im wondering if its hard to kind of of gauge the Employment Situation or the month of december. Well, you know, you have this seasonal factor that goes into it, but those are kind of washed out of it. If you want any type of a gaze to see that its going to be, both the ism reports of last week and this week showed a little better number. Will that translate . I dont know. I think it might. In overall looking at the economy, you do have to worry about the world economies, theres no doubt about it. But our economy seems to be doing better. Economic datas going to drive this, and dont forget, we have earnings season starting real soon. Alcoa kicks it off on the 6th. , i grieve, thats what you need i believe, thats what you need to watch for. Cheryl the employment component was strong from todays data, but at the same time, weather is going to be a big factor, im assuming, im wondering out loud here, dan, because of not just the skewed numbers with retail and the hiring trends but also, again, the weather situation was problematic for a lot of the big retailers across the country. That is true. But the thing is, if its a weather situation, thats a oneoff, and thatll come back. You have to be able to factor those problems out of it. Will it Carry Forward forever . No. The economy will determine what the employment does. We seem to be on better track, but it hasnt been any time of longterm trend, so lets see what happens. Cheryl tom, were going to talk oil down at the nymex, certainly some of the things thats been helping the energy names has been higher oil prices. Weve seen numbers fall back and now youve got, again, this harsh winter that were dealing with. How are you playing it in particular with the nat gas contract . Well, the crude oil markets been down 7 from its high just a week ago, five down days in a row. Were getting close to the bottom of a good Technical Support level, around 92. Id look for this market to rally going into later in the week and natural gas as this cold snap hits the northeast really hard over the next couple of days. But i think long term youre going to see oil really trade in this range anywhere between 88 and 102, and were really not going to get out of there unless something happens drastically. Either we get really great news out of china, or youre going to see a real selloff here because the Commodity Markets going to fall apart. Of. Cheryl let me follow up on something, theres a big discussion thats beginning today since our friends in d. C. Have come back from their holiday break, and that is about exporting u. S. Oil, about us finally becoming the exporters that we probably could have been a decade ago, tom. Is that something youre looking at, or are you going to kind of wait and see . We are already exporting gasoline because they pay a lot more for gasoline in europe than they do here. But i think, you know, we could have exported probably eight years ago doing more drilling, but right now were going to export whatever we can. If we can get a higher price for the oil overseas, were going to export it. I think thats just the case here. With brent oil trading about 15 highhr tan ti, if we can get it here, ship it there and make money on it, thats what the companies are going to do. Cheryl all right. Gentlemen, thank you very much. Its nice to see your Smiling Faces on what ive been told is the most depressing day of the year, january 6th. You all look good to me. Guys, thank you very much. Thank you. Cheryl well, theyre back. In washington lawmakers are returning to work after the big holiday, and they are already on a collision course to extend Unemployment Benefits. Peter barnes is standing by in d. C. With the latest on who is likely to blink first. We talked about this at noon because this has become the new fight between republicans and democrats. Reporter yeah. And so far its a standoff, cheryl. The senate is going to start voting on extending Unemployment Benefits in just is going to start the votes on it this week in just a couple of hours, extending Unemployment Benefits for 1. 3 Million People who lost them at the end of last month when they expired, millions more could lose them later this year. A three month extension would cost about 6 billion. Extending them for the or whole year would cost about 25 billion. But many republicans in the senate and house say it should not be deficit financed. They want spending cuts elsewhere in the budget to pay for it. Senate democrats need five republicans to support any extension to get the 60 votes they need to overcome a filibuster threat. What ive always said is that it needs to be paid for, but we also need to do something for longterm unemployed people, and that is we need to create something few that would create jobs. New that would create jobs. Most economists youd ask would say this type of temporary program doesnt need to be paid for. Fourteen out of the last seventeen Times Congress passed this, they doesnt pay for it. The last president bush, five times he signed it into law, none of them were paid for. Reporter now, president obama is pushing hard for an extension and plans to pressure republicans to support one at an event at the white house tomorrow. The Administration Says failing to renew the benefits could be a drag on the economy. Cheryl . . cheryl all right. Peter barnes live out in washington. Peter, thank you. Reporter you bet. Cheryl closing bell ringing, 51 minutes to go on this monday. Remember the hit song money, money, money makes the world go round, . Do you . Coming up, were going to talk about the role of the dollar in the global currency markets and why you should Pay Attention to the greenbacks latest twists and turns. I wasnt kidding, were talking currencies, ben willis, if youre still watching. Cheryl our power mover of the hour is zillow, the reason for the move, mark mahaney upgraded the stock friday from 90 to 100. Mahaney views zillow as the leader in on line real estate sector, and the name is one of their top mid small cap picks. A look at zillow over the past year, this sock is up about 200 over the last year. Theyve been apped, by the way, they have a great app if you want to try it. Thats our power mover of the hour. It could be a turning point for the greenback in the currency markets. The u. S. Dollar today breaking its two month winning streak. So as we look out into 2014, should we expect this weakening trend in the dollar to continue . And if so, where should investors be looking instead . Lets wring in michael woolfolk. Ben willis top of the show said hes really watching currencies right now. Sure. Cheryl lets start with the dollar. On a day when were going to get confirmation of maryland yellen at janet yellen, her role with the central bank of this country is crucial to the future of the dollar. Are you bearish . We are bearish. I think its frustrating for investors to see the economy performing well and not to see the currency performing well. And really since we went to zero Interest Rates back in late 2008, thats the way its been. The stock market and the dollar have gone in different directions, been negatively correlated as statisticians say. And the reason being is that when times are good or confidence strong, investors will borrow on u. S. Dollars or yen in some cases, and theyll invest in offshore higher yielding assets. Cheryl and thats what overwatching as well. I mean, it really is the relationship in your mind between the dollar and the yen right now. I mean, that carry trade is whats crucial to you. But youre bearish about this trade. I am bearish. And the yen will fall at a faster pace than the dollar in 2014. This is going to be a good year for the u. S. Economy and for the japanese economy. Itll be cheryl theyre going to have more of a fall than we wiil. They will have. The japanese yen will depreciate at a faster pace against the europeans than the u. S. Dollar, thats correct. But a good year for the economy, a good year for the stock market. Not a particularly good year for the u. S. Dollar. Although were forecasting about a 57 decline against the euro to end the year at about 1. 45 in the euro dollar. Cheryl youre optimistic about the u. S. Economy but still bearish on the dollar itself, weakening in the dollar which, youre right, is this is not what we should be seeing in textbook economic, but this is the way of the world, i guessings right now. You also mentioned europe, and europe is not out of the recession now. I think the only concern is really france, but otherwise theyve actually really come back from their recession. Thats a very good point, and thats really kind of the way that were looking at it. Europe is still going to lag behind u. S. Growth and likely equity Market Performance in 2014, but out of recession. And we dont see any impending crises there like what we saw last year with the cyprus banking crisis, the italian election crisis. And that will help us really, the flow on a flow of funds basis, the balance of payments in the u. S. Is in deficit. Trade deficit, we have a deficit with our fdi position for, foreign direct investment, and Portfolio Investment is not where it used to be. Cheryl let me follow up on that and ask you about the chinese, because the chinese seem to be signaling theyre going to start pulling back their dollar investments. Is that another reason youre bearish on the u. S. Dollar . That is the third and, for many investors, the strongest reason to be negative on the u. S. Dollar. The chinese, since we were downgraded from aaa credit by Standard Poors cheryl thanks to d. C. A year and a half ago, they have been consistently pulling back from their pace of dollar purchases. Cheryl uhhuh. And nowbe this past year a decision in their third men numb that they will be embracing more Flexible Exchange rates in the future, they will be liberalizing their currency, their capital account, investing more in foreign countries, and so more in foreign countries, and cheryl because of the amounts that they hold, thats a bit of a scary prospect. Youre bullish on the u. S. Economy, you also have some pretty decent yearend targets for the dow and s p. Are you looking at the same type of performance that we had in 13 . Because it was great. [laughter] it was great. And we are optimistic. It would be nice to say that we could have back to backkyears cheryl 26 again, yes, please. Lets say to pull it back into maybe a 1015 rally. So maybe that takes the dow to about 18,000 or so. So i think that, you know, if we see the type of growth that were expecting, about 2. 53 , then i think earning 1015 in our stock Market Indices is not going to be a stretch. Cheryl that is a bullish forecast definitely can, ill take it. Michael, thank you very much. Nice to see you. Closing bell going to ring, weve got 41 minutes to go right now on this monday. Reporter right, exactly. And its worth noting some that are on the move. When we were looking at some of the solar stocks and Goldman Sachs comes in with a conviction buy list on solar city because they like they have roof solar panels, so they upgrade one, they down grade the other. And were seeing solar city taking off and hitting new highs while first solar has been to the downside. St. Jude has been a leader, both solar city and st. Jude have hit new highs today. Downgrades for first solar was one i was telling you about earlier today, not really being a leader in this space and the Growth Potential for solar not being as good as solar city. So first solar is down 9. 25 . Sell gene has been a fame we have watch a name we have watched go from 70 to 170. Its up over 100 in that period of time. However, it did get a downgrade today and as a result youre seeing it to the downside, Goldman Sachss cutting that one as well. You know, the can iser is drugs and the cancer drugses and the like. Cheryl thanks, nicole. Financial titan jpmorgan, has its paid its way out of something far greater happening to the bank . Charlie gasparino has exclusive information on whats being said inside. Nice to see you, by the way. Good to be back. What would be worse than paying clash 13 billion last week, 2 billion in the coming days after they cheryl being fired or going to jail. But anyway or if youre jamie dimon, breaking up the bank while others like citigroup and bank of america dont have to break up. Were getting this from people with direct knowledge of the thinking of the jpmorgan board, that in 2013 and sometime maybe even back in 2012, clearly as the regulatory pressure was ramping up, board officials at jpmorgan were worried of the possibility that the bank would be forced to break up. This wasnt just a theoretical and if you look at some of the things theyve done, you know, they were hinting at it. There was a restructuring of the bank, jamie dimon giving up his title as chairman of the bank part of the bank. Hes still chairman of the whole thing. There was a restructuring of management. All these steps were more than just cosmetic relating and more than just relating to the money that they were being paid. This was done to basically appease regulators because they believed, the board of jpmorgan believed that there was more than a theoretical possibility that jpmorgan would be forced to break itself up because it was too big to manage. What would that mean for the stock . I think that would be very bad for the stock, and thats why they didnt like it. Why is that . Because bank of america and citigroup were not being forced, wouldnt be forced to break up. Jpmorgans cost of capital goes up because when you have deposits, you can borrow cheaper. I think they would still have access to the discount window, but unless all of them break up, you know, that puts jpmorgan at a disadvantage, and thats clearly what the board was worrying about through 2013. Now, i cant tell you whether theyre out of woods. They think, from what i understand of of people on the board, theyre whats been described to me as cautiously optimistic that the government is not going to go that route. That break up. But anything is possible, and i will say this if youre an investor and youre looking at this stock, you have to figure that in. This was more than a theoretical possibility that jpmorgan really believed, this is the board, that the bank was going to be that eric holder, the Justice Department through some sort of a deal would have forced a breakup. Now, if you notice the last deal, does not address that. The madoff deal thats coming over the Bernie Madoff claims that, eventually, you know, we should point out that jpmorgan for even though handled some of madoffs accounts, held for years it had nothing to do with madoff. You have to ask why are they paying . They are paying all in this because they know that they have to get this behind them, that the government could force a breakup. Thats why theyre caving this. And they were worried cheryl this is why they shocked wall street when they came out with their last earnings report, and the amount of money they put aside for legal fees was jawdropping. 20 million. Cheryl a shock. And, you know, heres the thing, they may be out of the woods yet, were not reading about them. Well probably read ant them in the coming days in and when they settle this madoff case, but youve got to ask yourself why are they settling the madoff case . The securities and Exchange Commission couldnt catch madoff, they were handed very credible evidence, why should jpmorgan be forced to pay 2 billion . The reason why is they coold lit gate this thing, they couldal cheryl try to move on. Get on the wrong side of the government even worse and then they hold that key to their existence which is, listen, its one thing the you force jamie dimon and jpmorgan the break up with everybody else, its one thing if you just force them. They were worried about that through 2013. The fears have somewhat abated, but youre not out of the woods until youre out of the woods. I think its interesting in the context of how theyre settling, we were the first to report theyre looking to sell just about everything the first quarter. Madoff is two billion. I think the only thing they may not settle is that whole chinese thing because theyre in there with everybody else. Cheryl charlie, thank you. Closing bell going to ring, 31 minutes to go. A Navy Helicopter picked up the amazon founder and Washington Post owners after he complained of intense pain. He was on a cruise ship that was traveling between two islands. Bezos was flown to his nearby private jet. The jet airlifted him back to the u. S. For emergency treatment, and amazon spokesman said that bezos did not require surgery. Now hes feeling a lot better. In an email he said, quote galapagos, five stars. Kidney stones, zero stars. Bezos is the worlds 19th richest person with an estimated net worth of 25 billion. His rescue did not seem to rattle investors that much, take a look at the stock, its down a little more than 3, but thats just a drop in the bucket. Markets down overall, amzn is your ticker. Well, the coldest recorded temperatures in almost 20 years are sweeping the midwest. Chicago is really feeling the chill with temperatures reaching 16 today. Thousands of flights have been canceled. Jeff flock is standing by on the streets of chicago braving the elements, the most dedicated reporter i know. Jeff . [laughter] reporter ah, we love the weather, but we love some weather more than others. Im using a broke down Chicago Transit Authority bus to kind of break the wind. Im going to get to the wind chill in a moment. First, i want to show you as cold as chicago is right now, theres a place not too far from here thats not only cold, but filled with snow. Take a look at the scene this indiana where already or still, i should say a 85mile stretch of route 65 has been shut down. Blizzard conditions out there. Lots of heavy lake effect snow. Another route 80 94 also shut down in indiana. Really bad out there. We got the snow yesterday, and weve come back live here, maybe you see this pile of snow. Take a look at it. And the thing is, when you get this kind of cold temperatures, cheryl, you dont get the snow going away. What you do get is tremendous wind chill. Take a look at well, you know what . Let me do the flight board first. Let me go to the flight because thats, you know, an impact that everybody can feel from around the country. Around the country now about 5,000 flight delays today, about three and a half thousand flights have been canceled. Epicenter, ground zero of those cancellations and delays, thats chicago ohare. They have by far the most. Now to the wind chill which, to me, is the headline. But weve been talking about this all day. In addition to these cold temperatures, you have very strong winds. We are out on the Michigan Avenue bridge, and maybe you can come out and see some people crossing it. They kind of run across it because it is so blasted cold, trying to kind of keep the circulation going. Thats what the river looks like. You see it perhaps completely frozen on out to the lake. And the other direction weve been showing you earlier what they call arctic sea smoke. Its not froze been over there yet, but these wind chills are not only chicago, they are all across the midwest. Theyre headed toward you in the east. Look at these brave souls out here. A lot of people out of work today because businesses have been shut down, schools are shut down this chicago. They Just Announced theyre going to shut the schools again tomorrow in chicago because its going to be almost this cold again, cheryl. And i tell you, you look at this, this is flash frozen. This is snow that got blown up here yesterday. Thats just frozen to it. You look over the side here, look at that river. Baby, its cold outside. Cheryl guess whos sitting next to me in the studio in new york right now, jeff . Guess whos with me . Reporter i cant cheryl sandra. [laughter] reporter oh, sandra, you left at just the right time, didnt you . Jeff, youre probably familiar with the saying in chicago, theres no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing. It looks like you dressed appropriately. Reporter oh, baby. You lucky girl. Cheryl isnt it true that you have to have your skin covered if its exposed for ten minutes . Oh, absolutely. You know its cold, despite looking at jeff freezing, its cold when minnesota closes down their Public School systems, okay . They pretty much go to work, go to school through anything. Thats cold. [laughter] cheryl jeff, cover your face, youre making me nervous. Reporter tough as we are. Cheryl jeff flock live outside in chicago. Be careful. [laughter] cheryl it just kills me to watch that. All right, the weather is not the only talking point among investors today, financials found their footing last year, in fact, they did outperform the Broader Markets last year. Wall street thinks the rally is just getting started. Got sandra next to me, thats her story. But also i do want to talk to you about the weather and nat gas and the Energy Markets which is another specialty of yours. Still watching jeff, thinking about my parents and my mom sitting home in this freezing house because my dads always turning down the temperature. You probably have a lot of folks watching their energy bills because natural gas prices, and, you know, 49 of the homes in the United States depend on natural gas, is up 30 from last year. When everybody wants to turn off the heat, prices are sky high. So natural gas is down today, but thats because of the cold weather coming to the east coast where most people use heating oil. So if you were to look at heating oil in todays trading session, it actually is spiking finally, because its natural gas up 30 yearoveryear, and its heating oil that has really been unchanged. So it might be d of a cheryl you know where i thought you were going to go when you brought up your family . Because you come from a family of traders [laughter] exactly. I was the youngest of six kids, and wed all be trying to sneak by the thermometer, dad would turn it back down. [laughter] cheryl yeah. Freezing me out. Okay, lets talk about financials. Actually, year to date financials right now are the best performing sector. Take that with a grain of salt. We should point that out right now because financials are outperforming the rest of the markets so far this year, but the big story coming up to today is that theyve been outperforming the entire stock market over the past year. Xlf, which is the financials etf, its up 33 on a oneyear basis while the s p 500 gained about 30 for 2013. Not only did they outperform for the entire year of 2013, but theyre outperforming again. So theres a lot of momentum. And the story here, cheryl, is that now investors are throwing their money into the financial stock index funds, more so than weve seen. I think we looked back to 2008 was the last time that we saw this kind of money flowing into the financials. Cheryl but its the big names, we should say. Pnc, wells fargo, bank of america, Goldman Sachss, jpmorgan. By the way, heres a big catalyst for the rally to continue, financials are going to start reporting earnings january 14th, jpmorgan and wells fargo kick this off, and right now Financial Firms in the s p 500 are on average expected to post Earnings Growth of 24 for the Fourth Quarter on a yearoveryear basis. Thats huge growth. So if ever anybodys questioning whether or not this rally in financials can continue, most wall street analysts are saying yes, and theyre pointing to earnings as next big cheryl youre right. This is the third year that we have seen financials perform and its also, its timely ahead of the jobs report friday because the speculation is as the economy improves, people go back to work, loan demand will go up, Interest Rates will go up, and that will benefit the bottom with lines at the bank. Cheryl sandra smith thank you. Cheryl nice and warm in our new york studio. Thank you, sandra. Closing bell going to ring, weve got 18 minutes to go right now. As a polar vortex it really is, its freezing huge parts of the u. S. Were going to tell you which companies could actually get a boost from the big chill that were seeing and also what we can expect for Energy Stocks from the year, another side of this play. My dad has aor afib. Brillation, he has t most common kind. Its not caused by a heart valve problem. Da it says your afib puts you at 5 times greater risk of a stroke. Thats why i take my warfarin every day. But it looks like maybe we should ask your doctor about pradaxa. In a clinical trial, pradaxa® dabitran etexilate mesylate . Was proven superior to warfarin reducing the risk of stroke. And unlike warfarin, with no res or dietary restrictions. Hey thanks for calling myoctor. Sure. Pradaxa is not for people with artificial heart valves. Dont stop taking pradaxa witht talking to your docr. Stopping increases your risk oftroke. Ask your dtor if you need to stop pradaxa fore surgery or a medical or dental procedure. Pradaxa can cause serious, sometimes fatal, bleeding. Dont take pradaxa if you have abnormal bleeding or have had a heart valve replaced. Seek immediate medical care for unexpected signs of bleeding, or have had a heart like unusual bruising. Pradaxa may incrse your bleeding risk if youre 75 or older, have a bleeding condition or stomach ulcer, take aspirin, nsaids, or blood thinners. Cheryl want to give you a quick shotovr the markets, it is the first full week of trading for 2014. Were kicking it off today. Hopefully, this isnt a sign of the january effect, you alwayss hear about that old wives tale, but were going to say thats what it is for now. The dows down 16, the dow briefly was going into positive territory. We got some econ data today that was decent, it wasnt great. Really whats going to move the market later on in the week is going to be the jobs report for the month of december. Its going to be tricky because of the weather and the retail picture out there. So we shall see, but there are your markets for this monday. Well, with much of the nation in the grip of dangerously low temperatures, it is hard to imagine that Energy Prices could actually fall for the year, but that is the view of our next guest who says you dont want to miss out on some big moneymaking opportunities. Joining me now, barry james, vantage funds ceo and president who also may be affected by the weather. [laughter] lets talk about this because you really do believe in the Energy Markets as, from a stock perspective. There are stock play. Right. Cheryl but oil, an analyst said oil was going to be down in the maybe 80 range. Thats where we would say as well. Cheryl okay. Theres so much production in the United States, and, you know, you dont have to have the transportation as much as you do when youre bringing it from overseas or not all those other risks that are in it. And we are at a point where were driving down prices by what were producing here at home. That marginal cheryl domestic production. And we think thats going to continue. And i think thats a play that really does pull across the stock market. Cheryl you were on the show november 21st, and one of your picks was valero, the stock has jumped about 16 , and you also picked i want to ask you abouthorse horace mann educators, but do you still like it . Oh, yeah. We think the refinerr and the folks servicinggthe field, maybe the folks that are pulling it out of the ground, the producers wont make as much profit if the prices come down, but all those people are going to make their money, and thats the area we would focus on. Cheryl okay. The other pick was horace mann educators, that stocks jumped up a little bit as well. Hasnt done as much. Cheryl you also picked alaska, and i do want to say the stocks actually down just a little bit. Right. Cheryl but of all the airline plays that were out there, that was, i thought, a very interesting choice, kind of a left field choice, if you will. Its a really strong commany, profitable, remains profitable, and i think well get through the season and cheryl theyre facing a lot of competition in the seattle market in particular, deltas coming. Thats true. Cheryl back to the Broader Market and the broader targets for the year for 2014. I think everyones trying to gauge how they want to invest their money. Weve been talking about financial, i know you like energy, but whats your overall view of the markets . Well, we think its been like a race, and we crossed the line, and were exhausted. I think we started into it in the beginning of the year, and were seeing it generally this time of year the market goes up. So theres going to be more volatility this year than there was in 13. The worst decline we had was all of 6 . It was almost nothing. And thats one in ten years. So weve got people who are really bullish about stocks. You have to go back to 2000 to fined a period when they were as bullish as they are today. You see a lot of margin debt has reached peak levels, and you dont see super low prices in stocks. You wouldnt say youre at the bottom of the market. So we think were going to see a correction, and itll probably throw a scare into people people. Cheryl you like financials, but what would be one main trigger that you think could cause and lets just say a pullback. Not correction, but a pullback. Many people have come on is and said a little bit of a pullback would be nice. Yeah. I think it will be more than that, and the primary reason for that is this excess of bullishness. Its not that the people are wrong, but it gets to such an extreme, and then it reverses. Thats what causes and then people start to sell. Cheryl psychological. Yeah, yeah. And be so we think it will, you know, just kind of be a natural thing. And i cant say what triggering event, catalyst thered be. I never know. But i do see cheryl usually its something that we dont exactly. Cheryl lets talk about sooe of your new picks, i do want to get to some of these. You like a Company Called republic services, rsg is the ticker. Its trash collection. Yeah, it is. Not very sexy. [laughter] cheryl but it could be. I mean, if its a moneymaking stock. Thats right. Cheryl could be very attractive. We look for companies that are cheap, number one x their earnings are good, and we like to see them in a nice, steady uptrend. This Company Buying back shares, we like that. The new kind of wrinkle, and this goes with energy, theyre transforming a lot of their trucks to natural gas and probably another 1015 or that. So that will drive down costs cheryl but theyll make more money. Right. Cheryl were so used to paying a lot of cash to get our garbage picked up. Okay, thats interesting. Also youre the second person today thats told me they liked deere. Yeah. Cheryl deere had such a rough 2013. China was a big issue for them. Sure. Cheryl farm belt, drought pressures on deere. You also like them. Yeah. And, you know, again, they meet the basic criteria when we look for something that were not spending, you know, they trade at less than ten times earnings, so theyre paying a good dividend as well. But the other thing theyre doing is theyre trying to take advantage of this energy play as well, and theyre putting propane tanks or conversion kits for a lot of their commercial turftype of equipment. And so that could be a whole nee wave of things to take advantage of the cheaper cheryl now, what are you avoiding real quick . [laughter] well, utilities for the moment. Maybe not today [laughter] but theyre facing the upward rise in Interest Rates. And technology faces some hurdles in terms of exporting, especially with the dollar, the tradeweighted dollar has gone up, and so that tends to hurt technology. Cheryl the fund, the james mid cap fund, youre pretty much hitting your benchmark targets over the past year, so want to hrow that out there. Good luck getting back to ohio. I appreciate it. [laughter] cheryl well give you some restaurant ideas in new york city. Barry james. Closing bells going to ring, weve now got six minutes to go. Airlines at twoweek highs. American and delta hits 52week highs. Theyre having a lot of problems with the weather.
