New jersey which decimate ad Community Just getting back on its feet as a result of what happened with hurricane sandy. Were going to be keeping you abreast of that situation. There is a live shot of the fire. As you can see a lot of the efforts that have been made to try to put this place back in order, now being wiped out. First it was water. Now its fire. Just a terrible, terrible situation. Seaside park, new jersey. Well it is day three of our coverage in Silicon Valley. Lets head back to liz claman with the very latest and a very special interview. Liz . Liz you know what . It was just last year we walked around with elon musk at his fremont, california, tesla plant. So much has happened. He bought a gigantic piece of property next to the plant in fremont. Theyre expanding. It was six years ago that elon was one of our 3 days in the valley originals. He is such a busy man. Over the past year it is up over 450 . Over the past three years, even better. This is a guy who has the ability to focus on many different things, from electric vehicles to rockets at his company spacex. He is winning fivestar safety ratings at tesla. He is attempting to revolutionize the way we use Public Transit as well. Original 3 days in the valley alum. He agreed to make time for friends here at fox business. It is a fox business special interview. He is joining us remotely, not here in Silicon Valley, elon. Spacex, the rocket ship company is. Get to breaking news. I saw you tweet a second ago, you tested the engines on the falcon 9 at Vandenberg Air force base the last hour. How did that go . Yes, were getting ready to launch the next generation of falcon nine rocket from vandenberg in california. As a test before launch we do something called a static fire, we hold down the rocket and fire the engines, make sure everything is good. Were going through that testing. I think were almost done with that. And then within about a week or two of, of that static fire we should be launching the next generation falcon 9 rocket. Okay. So were talking really just days away. You have this amazing deal with nasa, to have 12 launches. You had two successfully so far. I remember being back there in 2006, back then you were in el segundo. You moved to hawthorne. Space exis a fascinating rocket ship venture. Are you going 12 for 12 . We actually have 48 missions under contract which a quarter are for nasa. We do have a bunch of Nasa Missions but majority of missions are for commercial satellites, broadcasting communications, mapping, weather, that kind of thing. And, were actually docked with the space station now three times. What were getting ready to launch is the next generation rocket. Really advance the status of space technology. Ultimately, hopefully get it to the point where it is possible to send people to mars. So, you know, so far so good. But, the rocket business is a very difficult one. And, certainly possible that the Upcoming Mission could fail. And potentially at a very significant way. Liz all right. We hope that doesnt happen but you know what . You guys have in the past, way back when failed. Picked yourselves back up and gotten the nasa space station contract. We follow it closely at fox business as we have tesla. From mars down to lets say missouri, you are preparing to take on a crosscountry trip in tesla model s. Show us where you are in hawthorne, california. Im asking you are you taking route 66 . What route are you talking . Will interest be charging stations . Are you building out some now . We are. Were building out a nationwide network of supercharges who to enable fast charging anywhere in the country. We expect to have the northsouth routes covered on the coast and crosscountry route from l. A. To new york. By the end of next year you will be able to go virtually anywhere in the country useing a tesla supercharged network which of is free to model s customers. Liz just saw a big line down the middle of the country, where there didnt look to be a lot of superchargers on that map. Here is your shot. Not to america. Not what just people perceive. There is perception tesla is for calfornians and new yorkers, east coast, west coast. What about all americans . Make that case . Absolutely of the, i think a lot of premier manufacturers, dont think that theres a significant market for premium cars in, in middle america. I think there is. Actually. And, we take that market really seriously and that is part of the reason why i wanted to do a crosscountry trip, go through the middle confident country. Sort of like a whistlestop tour. Meet people in, probably going to stop in like 20 states. And show them, you know, an example of an american car, that is designed, not just designed in america. It is actually manufactured here. And, it is one that, that received the Consumer Reports 99 out of 100, best score ever. Highest safety rating ever. Try to convince people, hey, they should take a chance on this car. Liz sure. I think it has been a while since american cars were, an american car was considered the best in the world and, you know, really happy at tesla to have been given that rating by Consumer Reports and by motor trend and by others. Liz right. Well thats a great point. I can show you liz viewers there in the middle of the country. Go ahead. Absolutely. Should i show you how easy it is to use the supercharger . Like plugging in a hair drier or plugging in a toaster, it is super easy. Liz go for it. Okay. Liz and as you do that youre plugging it in, i really want to ask you about the fact that, that is all you do. Just plug it in and it shorts to charge, right . Yeah. Thats it. Liz it was one year ago, elon, you and i walked around the plant in fremont, california, made in the usa i found a lot of viewers that it resonated with them. At the time some 41 of your float was shorted. The shorts were circling around you. At the same time our own charles payne, one of our real stockpickers here at fox business was defending the stock. It was at 28, some period of time. Sure enough the shorts got hurt. Now, just 32 of the float shorted but certainly has come down. Will you prove the shorts wrong in the end . There are some who still say, even your chief Financial Officer was saying a little complicated to look how the finances are figured out here . Yeah. I mean i think that, i think weve got a really good story in the long term for tesla. Obviously i think our valuation right now is assuming a lot of good execution on our part in the future. Were going to do our best to work hard and make sure investors are not disappointed. And i think weve got very exciting products coming out. So, i mean, i think, you know, in the past i said, you know, its really crazy to short tesla. It is so crazy to short tesla right now . It is not as crazy but i still think it is probably not a good idea. Liz probably not a good idea. Listen, not only were looking at model s, i have to ask you will you exceed your sales targets by yearend of the model s . Well, we always aspire to exceed our targets. Well see if that, thats what happens. Im cautiously optimistic well be able to do okay on that front. Liz what will be the timeline for the model x suv which we also talked about last year . Sure. The model x, were hoping to bring that to market at the end of next year and achieve volume production in 2015. Model x, will be, as you know an suv, kind of an suv version of the model s. Still a premium vehicle and its really our Third Generation car that will be more of a mass market car. Thats the point at which i think well be able to produce a longrange car that is compelling and affordable. And thats, thats really the main breakthrough that weve been trying to achieve from the beginning of tesla. Liz okay. And you know something, that i think is maybe worth noting is that, every dollar we make on selling a model s we pour that into r d and into building out the factory and improving the technology towards producing an affordable, compelling mass market car. So whereas if somebody were to buy, say a bmw or, a porsche or Something Like that, the money that is, that say porsche makes is not going into producing affordable, mass market cars, but in our case it certainly is. So i think, people who buy the model s and feel good and secure in the knowledge that is what were going to do. Liz i know youre a busy guy. You have to get back to your rocket launch preparations. I do. Liz youve got tesla. You have the hyperloop. Lets not forget that. As we finish up, what do you say to investors and shareholders that are a little worried that youre stretched too thin . Actually, thats why i, i explicitly said when i unveiled the hooper loop design that im going to remain focused on tesla and spacex. It is not because i dont think the hyperloop is good but i do have an obligation to do my best for tesla and spacex and if i take on yet another thing it will be difficult to do so. Im hopeful others will take up the hyperloop project or Something Like it because i think it will be great to have something revolutionary on the Mass Transportation front. Liz elon musk live from spacex headquarters in hawthorne, california. Booed luck with the trip. Good luck with the rocket launch. Good luck with solarcity, with hyperloop. Thank you once again for being one of our originals at 3 days in the valley. Elon musk. David, over to you. Thank you very much. Liz what an entrepreneur. David i had a lot of interviews, i never said at the end of an interview, i know youre busy. You have to get back to your rocket launch. That is a first. When you can say that to a guest you know he is up to big stuff, thats for sure. Well have more from liz in the valley a little later in the show. Up next right here, how investors can ride the taper. Helping the world keep promises. David lululemon falling hard today. Lets head back to nicole petallides. On the floor of nyse. What is up with lululemon . Theyre talking about delayed deliveries. Cutting numbers for the full year. Just that kind of chatter is enough to spook investors that were already disappointed when they had to pull off the other, recall those shorts that were seethrough pants and shorts. That were seethrough unintentionally. They have issues with bleeding tops, the dyes in the tops are coming off. They had to battle a few issues, dave. The stock is down five 1 2 . So todays hovering around 65 and change. This was an0dollars stock over the summer. So after these issues 80 stock. And ceos are, all tough stuff for the lululemon shareholders. David i should say so. Nicole, thank you very much. Stocks falling today as the s p snap ad 7th straight day of gains. 7th straight day. Snapped it today, here to break down the big moves. Adam patty, i. Q. Advisors ceo. Lincoln ellis in the pits of the cme. I want to start with you. Were all looking for places other than equities, those of us who think they have topped off here at these high levels. But there is no other place to go to put your money, is there . Well, certainly no rocket launches here in the pits today. After seven days, things have sort of beginning to calm out. Interesting Economic Data is coming out that will give us insight to inflation. That could lead us two places that might look. Commodities sector is beat up for three years straight. David thats true. Depending which part of the commodities sector youre looking at. Of course emerging markets, they have made a huge come back next 10 days relative to what is going on in u. S. Equities. There is a lot of information that is coming out ahead of feds big announcement next week. Those are two places think investors could be looking. David adam, you think that the market has kind of peaked or very high levels right now. Maybe it would be a mistake to put much cash in at these levels. You think fixed income is more dangerous. What do you do with your money . I think you need to look at the global macro environment and pick your spots carefully. Look at middle east. Oil is going up. If you believe the middle east will remain unsteady, oil is a good place to be. Looking at Global Economic growth that is improving in china and united states. So that is, where is a good place to be. I would put agribusiness in that position. Another good spot particularly is, reits. Reits had as nice runup and had a big pullback over last couple months. Lock in on a nice dividend yield. You get it, too involved with the drawdown that they already experienced. David lincoln, interestingly you both are talking about putting money in commodities. You just have the fed pull back, stop creating as much phony money as it has been creating. That might strengthen the dollar. That might in fact bring down some of the prices of commodities, no . Absolutely. David hold on a second. Lincoln, go ahead. Relative value, what you uncovered david, is absolutely right. It is reflective in both comments. A big game of relative value. Eerily reminds me of charlie prince, dancing in a game of Musical Chairs before something very bad happens. So investors are probably right. To take a little bit of money off the table. As david was suggesting, pick your spots. Be very careful. Look for fatter pitches and actually, dont make any large moves ahead of this fed taper. David it is interesting, adam. So many people are pulling their money out of gold today. Well, gold, it is an interesting thing. I heard both side. Gold is certainly had a run back up. But im hearing, and im believing that gold is probably not the place you want to be right now, unless were seeing a lot of unrest in the middle east, really start bubbling up. David weve been talking in generalities. Adam, i want to get specific here. You like u. S. Oil fund, uso. Why do you like it . I like oil. If you want to play oil theres a couple ways to do it. Uso is the best way to do it, if you like using derivatives. If you understand can tango and backwardation you want to play it. Play small cap oil equities and pick the etf, ioil. David were talking about commodities, agricultural commodities, moo, m, o, o is a great fund for that. I heard a lot of people talking about moo recently. Moo is the granddaddy in that space for sure. However you want to be careful because some of the Large Cap Companies like potash and mosaic are having problems. I would look at small caps, ticker is sim boil, crop. Great way to play small cap agribusiness. David vanguard reit is another one you like, it is an etf. Tell us about it. Its a large player in the reit space. Has a nice 3 yield. Again here, you see a theme coming but i like small caps. If you look at roof, it has about 60 more yield and had the same drawdown on the downside but has much more explosive upside and ahead of the nq over vnq over last 12 months by 10 . David lincoln, oil was up today after coming down a little bit. Is it going to continue to stay at this level or ever going to drop below 100 if. Two factors driving it, tension in the middle east and china and most of emerging economies in southeast asia. Or very least the bottoming out. Demand to pick back up there, oil is staying above 100 a barrel. With the taper, that will be a very interesting economic backdrop for the fed to make its announcement next week. David i think you have to watch the fed influence. If the fed does taper, Oil Prices May be affected a little bit. Adam, good to see you. Adam and Lincoln Ellis at the cme. When we come back well talk with a ceo of a medical devices count company that is under siege by critics because of accounting and compensation practices. The ceo is coming out fighting.
