and figure out whats the strategy moving forward in syria, which is a much, much more difficult challenge. The president is expected to issue that controversial executive order on amnesty. The Obama Administration is assuring people that the federal exchange healthcare. Gov is going
to work smoothly this time around. But for many, that may be the least of their concerns. Thats because those who previously signed up may be forced to switch their plans or see the cost of their premiums jump by next year. This comes as the state of washingtons Health Care Web site was shut down after just a few hours while authorities stride to fix a software glitch. Peter doocy has more. Reporter there are already issues with health care. Gov, just a few hours into the second open Enrollment Period ever. There are reports, widespread reports of users who say they are unable to log into accounts that they just created and if you cant log into your account, you cant apply for coverage. Straightly the online marketplace Washington State has been taken offline because of a broken tax credit calculatear. Even though they were a few dollars off. The site will stay down until its fixed. The hhs secretary announced
today that tens of thousands of people have already applied for coverage. That was just before lunch. Were going to continue o watch everything and monitor everything. As i said all along, there will be places where well find things. What were going to do is quickly work to take care of anything we find. We want to listen and hear. I think what weigh we see, with 23,000 people already applied in terms of the application process. Reporter 23,000 is a massive improvement over last years first day when internal memos revealed that six applications went through on that first day of open enrollment. Some lawmakers are concerned that people picking up new coverage through the exchanges are getting ripped of the way that the law is written. The president has not signed anything big. Hes going to continue to stake his legacy on what he thinks is the success of this law. Were seeing this is not the case with skyrocketing deductibles and everything else. well, it died after it touched down. Jonathan hunt in the news room with the latest on the philae. As the batteries ran low, it tweeted apparently, im feel ago bit tired, i might take a nap. The concern for scientists now is whether it will ever wake up from that nap. The key to that is recharging the batteries via solar panels. But the lappedder touched down in the shadow of a cliff space on the comet and that prevented it from seeing the sun and therefore charging those batteries. Scientists at the European Space agency did manage to rotate the lander by 35 degrees before it shut down and they hope that may be enough to get the solar panels into sunlight. Even if they dont, Scientists Say the lander has already performed some 56 hours of experiments and data collection. That was all very successful. So they have already received an enormous amount of data that was
planned to be taken by the lander. So its a tremendous success already. The main mission here is to try to find clues about the origins of life on earth. The material beneath the surface of the comet is around 4 1 2 billion years old. And scientists hope that the lander can get samples, it might give them insight into whether comets brought the basic Building Blocks of life, organic matter and water to earth. Scientists have been working around the clock to make best use of the time the lander was operating and as they wait to see if the batteries recharge, they say theyre now going to follow its lead and take a nap themselves. Were also watching all of this moisture move in from the gulf of mexico. That combined with this cold front thats bringing that arctic air mass. Were going to see snow in sort of unlikely areas. Amarillo, toward tulsa. St. Louis, louisville, indianapolis. A mixture here and then thats going to continue to press eastward. This is monday overnight. Nashville mainly a rain events. We could see Severe Weather on
the relatively warmer side of the storm. Then pushing across interior portions of the northeast and new england. Again, it will be mainly a chilly rain event for monday, all of monday. Back to that, lake effect snow and then that case we could see over a foot. Over the next 24 hours, in the mountains of portions of new mexico and colorado, off towards the ohio river valley. The concern is that is an attempt to lower cost, but are you then going to have it once again, lose the doctor you chose, lose the hospital you chose again . And in 48 cities, this was a Kaiser Foundation study, they actually found that premiums decreased. But there is this varies widely across the country. This is a private insurance market. Its not the federal government. There is a public option you might be able to have a controlled fee, but there isnt. These are all private Insurance Companies making the decision. Dont forget, many people are going to have tax credit, 85 of the people who buy on insurance exchanges will have a tax credit, which will reduce the cost. This adds even more as tammy mentioned.
