I dont quibble with labels. We do ourselves a disservice in this fight if we are not taking into account the fact that the overwhelming majority of muslims reject this ideology. Violent extremism is something we want to be focused on. And its not just its not just islamic violent extremism. Were going to focus on all the different kinds of extremism with a heavy focus on people who do this in the name of islam. We would say falsely in the name of islam but there are other forms of extremism. Lets make two things clear isil is not islamic. No religion condones the killing of innocents. Now, late last week at the National Prayer breakfast president obama thought it was appropriate though to lecture christians. All right. Lets watch this. We see isil brutal, vicious, death cult that in the name of religion carries out unspeakable acts of barbarism, terrorizing religious minorities like the yazidis. And lest we get on our high horse and think this is unique to some other place, remember that during the crusades and inquisition people committed terrible deeds in the name of christ. In our home country slavery and jim crow all too often was justified in the name of christ. It is not unique to one group or one religion. There is a tendency in us, a sinful tendency that can pervert and distort our faith. What i worry about is we dont teach american exceptionalism to the next generation, these are the kind of leaders were going to have. We dont insist on english, we dont insist on people coming here as americans not hyphenated americans, use our subculture to overthrow our freedoms. We dont discriminate against anybody. The threat we face today are radical islamic terrorists. He seems to go out of his way to say theyre not terrorists, so say theyre not radical muslims. Sean, islams got a problem. The reality is i dont think, i certainly dont believe, i dont hope majority of muslims agree with these terrorists, but weve got to recognize the problem for what it is. Thats why its up to individual Muslim Leaders to denounce not just the individual acts, so youre right. He refuses to use those words. If there are republicans or candidates who believe in a bigger role for the federal government, they should make that case. And we should have that debate. And voters should get to decide. But this is an important election.
