The crossfire. Peaceful protesters in Downtown Dallas was interrupted by this evil and suspected gunman Micah Johnson is dead. The investigation of who he was and why he did that is just beginning. Fox news Senior CorrespondentRick Leventhal is live in dallas. Rick . Greta, we are at the corner of main and griffin in Downtown Dallas which is still a significant crime scene. The red bring building behind me, the large building is a parking garage where that sniper hid and took shot at some of those officers. You may be able to see across the street well when this bus clears away white columns on the building across the street. If you saw that horrific video from last night where one of the officers was gunned down at close range by the shooter, that happened right at that location. What appears to have happened was the sniper was in the garage, took shots at officers, came down, shot more officers on the ground and then went back into that garage. As you mentioned, police have now identified the shooter as 25yearold Micah Johnson. He is a was in the Army Reserves for six years. Authorities say he had links on his Facebook Page to black militants. He was, in fact, the lone gunman in this attack. This Afternoon Police revealed that everyone is a of johnsons home turned up more rifles and ammo, bombmaking materials and ballistic vests. They also found a personal journal of combat manifesto how to shoot and move. This was a planned and calculated attack. Johnson told a Hostage Negotiator during several hour standoff last night he was upset overblack lives matter. He was upset over Police Involved shootings and upset at white people and while the Police Officers. He wanted to kill more of them. He told authorities he acted alone in what is now called the deadliest day in Law Enforcement since 9 11 with five officers killed. Seven others wounded. Some of them still hospitalized. Police would not go into a lot of detail about the shooter or sequence of events. This is all still under investigation. But, as i mentioned, it does appear based on prior statements and what we have seen on video that, in fact, the shooter was in the garage, went down to the street. Took more shots at officers and went back in the garage standoff Dallas Police began and ended hours later after another 45 Minute Exchange of gunfire. Dallas police sent in a robot with c 4 explosives attached and they detonated those explosives, killing the suspect before they say he could harmony more officers. The officers who were killed have been identified. They include Brent Thompson, a dallas area Rapid Transit officer who got remarried to another officer just two weeks ago. He is the first dark cop to be killed in the line of duty. He had six kids and three grand kids. Dallas Police OfficersMichael Kroll was a sheriffs deputy in wayne county, michigan. Dallas Police Officer patrick zampreta 32yearold who survived three tours in iraq. Mike smith and, aarons. The entire Law Enforcement community is in mourning. The officers were defending the black lives matter protesters right to walk down the street with their hands in the air saying arms up, dont shoot, and Law Enforcement source told me, greta that there are two kinds of people in this world those who run towards danger and those who run from it these officers were running to the danger and they were in some cases killed for their service. And, of course, rick, they are running to the danger to protect everyone else. Anyway, rick, thank you. Yes. The Police Dispatched audio is absolutely chilling. Here it is just as the bullets began to fly. We got a guy with a long rifle. We dont know where the hell he is at. Garage eyewitness amanda was two blocks away from where the gunshots rang out. Immediately people began running for their lives. Amanda is here to on the record. Thank you for joining us. Good evening, thank you for having me. Tell me where you were, what you heard, what you saw. Well, i will start with it was about 8 45. I was just probably a block and a half, two blocks away from where the gunshots start to do break out. Its what we call below garden. And i believe that the shooting was happening over close to bank of america tower. You guys have seen that. Where everything happened it sounded like it was 50 to 100 feet away the gunshots started going pop pop pop pop pop. I wasnt the only one looking around. Everybody was shocked. The rally was over. The only reason i was out there was to take my dogs for a walk. It was getting late. I really thought the rally was over. The rally seemed calm. It wasnt something that any of us anticipated. It definitely caught a lot of us off guard. As soon as the pops started happening. We started seeing people run everywhere. We didnt know where it was coming from. We start to do see cops. Officers hop in their cars and go as fast as they can straight into the crime scene. I must have seen about 30 Police Officers in their cars just streamlining down main street it was like a nightmare. The worst thing i had ever experienced. Gunshots were so loud. I had no idea where they were coming from. I grabbed my dogs and we sprinted back home. Luckily i just live a couple blocks away. I got home within five minutes and gunshots were still going but i was safe and i got up to my place and i watched the news and thats when i found out that the officers had been shot. And i just prayed that i didnt know them because they are my neighborhood officers. How long did the shooting seem to go on . To be honest it seemed like five minutes. It was constant. A little bit of machine gun where it was pop pop pop pop and then kabam. Very loud. Anyway, amanda, thank you very much for joining us. Thank you for having me. On the records ted williams has been on the ground in dallas investigating this gruesome slaughter of the police. Ted knows the pain these Police Officers and families are feeling because ted is a lawyer. Before that he was a cop. Ted . Hi, greta. The location in which im standing in last night was the line of fire. According to witnesses, bullets were whizzing by this location. Earlier this afternoon, we got a chance to walk around the crime scene. Take a look at what we found. If you look over my shoulder here, you will see where everything is frozen in time. As you see that suv thats where its last night. You see all the cars down there. This is where they were last night. This is one very gigantic crime scene. I talked to state, local, and federal Law Enforcement officers. And they are all here processing this crime scene. If you look down here over my shoulder, youll see where theres several or more police cars. It was in that location that a Law Enforcement officer confronted Michael Xavier johnson, shot him in his bulletproof vest. Michael Xavier Johnson then returned fire, shooting the Police Officer. Then standing over the officer and shooting him at point blank range. And then, greta, at that stage, he ran into this building here. And it was in this location that he was shooting and from what we have been told in the direction in which im now standing, bullets were coming in this direction and, greta, it was also in this location that Law Enforcement officers cornered Michael Xavier johnson for four hours they tried to get him to come out. When he wouldnt come out, they decided that they were not going to put any more of their men in jeopardy, men and women and what they decide to do do was to sandy robot in with explosions and it was in that location over there that Michael Xavier johnson died as a result of being blown up. And, greta, the investigation over my shoulder continues here tonight. Ted, i just want to take a few seconds. Youre a former Police Officer. I cant even imagine what the police are feeling. I mean about they knew the five were killed and murdered and then you have got the families. What a horrible night. What a terrible thing to happen. It is a very terrible thing to happen when you look in the face of the men and women in this Police Department, you can see the chill. Can you see the emotion that has been drained out of them. But, yet, they are out here, greta, in their uniforms serving the people of this city. And, to think, these police last night. I mean, the irony of it, they were protecting the right of protesters who were protesting the police because of the two shootings in minnesota and louisiana. So the police were out there protecting the protesters so they could peacefully protest and they themselves all of a sudden get a target on the back and they are ambushed and executed themselves, five of them. It shows utter lack of respect for what these brave men and women do. Youre absolutely right. These protesters were here. They were actually serving and protecting them, greta. You know, i must read something from black lives matter. They issued a statement today. What the statement says in part it says this to assign the actions of one person, thats this killer to an entire movement is dangerous and irresponsible. And that same message, black lives matter, they cant assign because of the police bad contact with few police to the entire Police Community in the nation. We have to both begin looking at ourselves on all of this . This is not a time for hatred and vitriolic to come out. We need to find some kind of a prescription because we all have to live together here, white, black, and. Do you know what the thing is, ted . The thing is that everyone has to look at his own conduct and quit blaming everybody. We are never going to get any better because there are a few bad people out there. But there are so many god people. We have got to quit acinning blame to all these groups no matter what group it is. Greta, youre absolutely right. We all need to take responsibility and, again, we all need to try to come together. And now dallas has to unfortunately come together and send five of its finest home. Indeed. And there are two families in louisiana and minnesota who, like wise feel the pain as well. Awful lot of pain going around tonight. Ted, thank you for joining us. Absolutely. All the chaos and tragedy Dallas Police are pleading for support from the community. Were hurting. Our profession is hurting dallas officers are hurting. We are heartbroken. There are no words to describe the atrocity that occurred to our city. All i know is this must stop, this divisiveness between our police and our citizens. You see video footage after video footage of them running toward gunfire from he will elevated position with no chance for them to protect themselves and to put themselves in harms way to make sure citizens can get to a place of security so please join me in applaud ing these brave men and women who do this job under great scrutiny, under great vulnerability, who literally risk their lives to protect our democracy. We dont feel much support most days. Lets not make today most days. Please, we need your support to be able to protect you from men like these who carried out this tragic, tragic event. Former nypd commissioner Howard Schaffer goes on the record. Good evening, commissioner. And, you know, this is its hard to even describe tonight and last night. But when you hear the chief of police say we are hurting, we dont feel much support most days, it proximate causes ever so more painful whats going on there your thoughts tonight, sir. Its a horrible tragedy. The first thing i want to do is express my condolences and prayers to the families of those officers killed and wounded. As the chief said, theyre not getting much support. Part of the problem here and part of the motivation, i believe, from Michael Johnson is the fact that from the president on down people have been talking about people of color are at risk from the police. And that could not be further from the truth. We have had some incidents like the one in baton rouge, like the one in minnesota, and they are going to be adjudicated. But to broad brush the entire police force across the country is outrageous. Let me read from you. Because i keep bringing this up. Im going to bring it up throughout the whole show is black lives matter issued a statement and part to assign the actions of one person, that would be that killer johnson, to an entire movement is dangerous and irresponsible. But thats exactly whats happening to the police. Every time a Police Officer does, you know, one Police Officer does something bad, all of a sudden therein are people complaining its all Police Officers. Its not all Police Officers. But the very thing this black lives statement says tonight is something everyone should be paying attention to. Do you agree . Absolutely r. Absolutely. If black lives really mattered they would look at hob is killing 95 of black men in america. Its not Police Officers. Its other black men. Its a ridiculous movement. All lives certainly matter. And what we need to do is stop this war on police. We need to start appreciate what police could to protect us. I think that 30 town Hall Meetings when i was Police Commissioner in communities of color. And it was very rare that i heard anything about brutality. What i heard about was send us more cops to protect us from criminals. I should note that we are now looking these are live pictures. This san honor guard from one of the fall officers in dallas. Commissioner, thank you very much for joining us tonight. Good to be with you. Breaking News Coverage continues. Pete schulte is friends with one of the murdered officers and was one of the wounded officers. He spent all night in the hospital and goes on the record. Good evening, pete. Good evening, greta. I dont know, pete, its like each person i dont know what to say to each guest. The horror of this, you know, of this and the suffering. So i guess let me start first for your injured friend. He doesnt know a lot about what happened and obviously we purposely didnt tell him. We just want him to go home. Take some pain medication and get some sleep. Is he going to have a road ahead.
