I dont think shes come up with a compelling message other than shes against donald trump. Two, her record as a prosecutor. I dont know theres any place in the Democratic Party for someone whos been the top cop for california and has key places in her record that will not be loved by progressives. Howard schultz a life long democrat, from what we can tell, extremely progressive on issue after issue. Theres no room for him in todays Democratic Party as a wealthy ceo. That shows how far the Democratic Party has moved to the left. The blow back has been from the left when it comes to his candidacy. Dana Mike Bloomberg saying in 2020 the great likelihood is that an independent would just split the antitrump vote and end up reelecting the president. We must remain united and not allow any candidate to divide or fracture us. The stakes couldnt be higher. What do you hear from your fellow democrats about a concern about an independent run by schultz . Part of it is what is the end game . If your goal is to get youre not even playing the full ballot. What youre doing is acting as a spoiler. If i had karl roves white board there would be a ve ndiaye gram where youve got the face and this overlapping middle. What somebody like Howard Schultz would pull from that middle. Right now there are more people who gravitate toward this side of the diagram than the republican side. These bid folks, guys who come from the by world. Mike bloomberg took a long hard look at doing what howard shul is doing. Mike bloomberg decided there wasnt a path in 2016. Hes trying to remake himself as a full board democrat because hes concluded there is no path for a role as an independent. Dana the 60 minutes clip, where he said people are exhausted. They might not like the far left economic view for the country. They dont like the identity politics. But this has been so exhausting, chaotic for them. Does it speak to the suburban voters that the Trump Campaign and who ever runs the democrat will be going after . You have to speak to those suburban voters because they went trump in 2016. They flipped the democratic calm in 2018. Its smart to make play for them. But the way our system is constructed, its hard to see a viable path. Dana could this help the Democratic Party try to figure out a way to not go so far left where the country is not there yet. Theyre not for medicare for all. Former obama folks are getting together to make sure their focus is on strengthening obama care rather than medicare for all. Can schultz help the party . Hes going to have a platform. Hes going to force a discussion on certain eurb issues. I think thats right. Again, we just saw record turnout in 2018 vote for pragmatic democrats, moderate pragmatic democrats. I think that shows us a good path for 2020. Look, i think what schultz is doing is fine for people like the market place of ideas, but to colins point, electorally speaking if his goal is to stop donald trump, this is not the way to do it.
