That you cant separate kids from their parents at the border. End of story, right . Apparently not. The aclu is already protesting the move even though it returns us to where we were before we were exercising this legal right. Thats a different story. What is not, the fastmoving stories since. To blake burman at the white house with more. Hi, blake. It was the position that if parents crossed the border, theyre breaking the law. At that point, they said because theyre breaking the law according to the administration, they need to be separated from their children as takes place if you break the law in any state or city all across this country or any given day. Now with this executive order, the administration is still saying if these parents try to cross the border, not going through a port of entry, they are still breaking the law. The big difference is here as the Legal Process plays out, theyre now able to stay with their children if they try to come across the border with their kids. At the core of this order, very short, a little more than a page that reads, its the policy of this administration to maintain family unity, by detaining alien Families Together where appropriate and consistent with available resources. The president signed the order with the Vice President by his side and kirstjen nielsen. Watch here. Were keeping Families Together. This will solve that problem. At the same time, were keeping a powerful border and it continues to be a zero tolerance. We have zero tolerance for people that entered our country illegally. This is likely to face legal scrutiny before the pen hit paper here at the white house because the federal courts have ruled as recently that children could not stay in Detention Centers more than 20 days yet alone the possibility of indefinitely. The aclu weighed in this afternoon as you mentioned. They said the following. Children dont belong in jail at all. Even with their parents under any set of circumstances. If the president thinks placing families in jail indefinitely is what people have been asking for, he is grossly mistaken. By the way, through all of this, the president , the Administration Still imploring congress to take permanent action. Neil . Neil wow. Blake, great reporting. Thank you very much. Blake burman. One of my favorite reads is Michael Goodwin from the new york post. Michael, i actually loved your column today in which you said in varying themes here a picture is worth a thousand words because those images werent doing anyone any good, particularly republicans that were separating kids at the border. It would federal on deaf areas. What i didnt predict is addressing the concerns and still hearing this. What do you think of it . He is right to do this, neil. Because he had to. He is right about so much of the things he says in terms of the border the necessity to seal it, the fact that the democrats dont want sealed borders. Dianne feinstein bill is remarkable. It would prohibit arrests within 100 miles of the border. I mean that is an open border piece of legislation that as i ups it every democratic senator has signed on to. Yet, think that the Public Relations battle, the hearts and minds battle here was being lost because of the photos of these children. Its of course their parents decisions who did this, nonetheless, this was dominating the conversation fairly or unfairly. We can argue about that. Theres no question that the country looked bad, the president s policy looked bad because of those images. I think that there was no way to argue that these are g policies, its the only way to do it when look, i think the timing of it is really curious. That Jeff Sessions announced this in april, begins it almost right away and you have while this is happening, theres a surge of people coming across the border all year. So in the teeth of a surge, he does this zero tolerance. Im assuming its too generous that they gave this some thought. This could mean the accumulations of thousands of cases and people and as it stands, the government admits that it has now custody of some 2,100 children. Neil the bottom line, they brought it back to where we were essentially, which no one seemed to have a problem with till now, today and you alloweded to alluded to the other peoples of legislation, like the 100 mile radius them and the detention facilities for kids. Now its going to revert to something much more dramatic here because these were now back to the conditions we had under barack obama, which no one complained about then but now not good enough. Im not sure theyre exactly the same. The difference, when people were apprehended, they were sued civilly. This is still a criminal procedure under zero tolerance. Neil by the way, there were distinctions made for adolescents that came in, acting as drug runners or forced to be such and we would see them in detention facilities or worse. It was a different case. Nevertheless, there is no human cry like right now. What do you think happens . I hope that this policy goes into effect quickly. I hope that families are kept together. And there are no tragedies attached to this, no mishaps, no accidents, nothing bad happens so we can get back to a rationale conversation about this border. Because the numbers of people coming are surging again. I think that the issues in Central America are a prime factor. Neil, i reported today that in 2016 a study showed that 43 of the top cities in the world for homicide are located in Central America. Thats what is spurring a lot of this. Gang violence, murder. You have the breakdown of civil society. Thats spurring a lot of this. Theyre coming through mexico. The president s relationship with mexico has led mexico not to a lift a finger to stop them to the mexican northern border. So theres complicating factors. Our economy is doing gang busters. Its an attraction for a lot of people. Theres many factors fuelling this. So thats why i think that Jeff Sessions policy, the zero tolerance policy, was not welltimed given what is happening on the border. Wouldnt the irony be that he were fired over this . That would be interested. Michael goodwin. Kevin brady will be exploring the implications of this, the timing of this. Certainly to get it off the docket here so they can concentration on the sixmonth anniversary of the tax cuts and all that. He will be coming up later on. Were still waiting word from china about what they will do to response to the president s think that if you think of copying or imitating my 200 billion threat of tariffs on you which is a response there matching the 50 billion trade tariffs that i had on you, all hell will break loose. Trade will be a big issue in minnesota tonight. Thats where we final Connell Mcshane on how that will likely play out. Hi, connell. Its interesting. The trade issue has been divi dividing the Republican Party for some time. The coke brothers for years and years have just put their sizable fortune behind a multimillion dollar ad campaign, television and radio, designed to speak out about the president s tariffs and encourage republican lawmakers to support a free trade policy in the house and in the senate. Here in duluth, minnesota, as the president prepares to rally supporters, as we spoke to Business Leaders and others, we see a different approach. The president is finding more support here. Take a listen. This is putting us back on the level playing field. Its been a benefit. Weve seen an increase in volume and a lot of our workers called back. Were seeing it in the iron mines and the Steelmaking Facilities here along the great lakes. Duluth is a port city. That woman that you just heard will be among those on hand in the next hour when the president holds a roundtable with Business Leaders and he will address the concerns you heard raised. Thats what were dealing with here, the supporters are lining up. This is a Campaign Rally and a Republican Party that is taking additional trade issues. Neil meantime, with these developments and the president in trouble or not, is he going too far in the immigration thing and the trade war. Sometimes theres metaphors on the day that put you back and step back. Look at three stocks together. Theyre kind of interesting. Because they all involved a bidding war for 21st century fox. Were not part of this planned sale of assets. Everybody and their uncle are among those bidding for the properties. This is going to be when all is said and done, 70, 80, 100 billion . Who knows. So disney is up. Comcast is up. You dont see the company stocks, those behind the companies, moving up on that. As well as the enties the theyre trying to buy. You often see that. When i see Something Like that, get me charles payne. If you cant get him on the phone, see if he can come for the set. Hes opted for the latter. Thats weird. It is weird considering how dramatically disney increased their offer. They changed the mix of it. This is the intriguing part. Now its cash and stock. Wall street is saying they think this is a smart move considering where entertainment is going, to have this library, to be a player in the netflix world. Netflix has changed the entire dynamics of the industry. Neil the stock of 21st century stocks is closing in on 50. Just nor the as sets. Neil its anticipating what . Its almost a foregone conclusion that comcast will come back. Again the writing is on the wall. If you dont have a large set of assets, of the type of library that for instance fox brings and the type of ability to churn out hits, youre in trouble in the entertainment history right now. The other stock is netflix, which is another 15 today. This has gone parabolic. It goes straight up. It underscores playing it out, disney has the upper hand. Rupert murdock would like to be the largest shareholder of disney. Its better. They want skin in the game going forward. They have great management. Neil the tax environment that helps. Neil is that what is feeding this . No doubt about it. For instance, for me, besides the stock of the day, winnebago. I think one of the Top Performing stocks today. Record revenue and earnings. People have more money. Theyre spending. People are enjoying their lives. Thats the underlying thing. If you look at the successful stocks in the market, its about People Living in the moment right now. Which its millennials going camping on the weekend, going home and sitting in front of the tv and chilling out watching netflix or this is what companies have to capture. Thats why this bidding war is not over. Neil amazing. Thanks very much. So this back and forth will continue. Its sort of an anecdote to what is going on. Meanwhile what is going on with peter strzok . He still has a job at the fbi, which is weird. What is interesting right now is that despite being escorted out, he could be on the payroll like forever. The read from Chuck Grassley who wants to know why. Neil what did you mean by consequences must follow . A lots of people are still on the payroll. I take the view, if people have done something wrong and not fired, if heads dont roll, nothing changes. Neil that was Chuck Grassley with me on fox business saying the idea that peter strzok is still employed at the fbi bugs me. I want to see what happens here. Heads have to roll to that line. Andrew napolitano here, our legal expert extraordinaire. Im smiling because i love Chuck Grassley. He verbalizes the angst neil there must be consequences. Correct. The laws that hes sworn to uphold gives mr. Strzok a lot of protections Like Civil Service protections that prevent you to be fired because of words that you uttered of a political nature. Neil even if youre at the fbi. Sure. He was demoted from intel to mueller. Mueller learned about the texts. She was demoted. Who cares what his opinions are. Friday he was frogged, they took his gun and badge away from him out of the building. We dont know why. What we do know, he has Civil Service protection and can only be fired for cause. Andrew mccabe was fired because the attorney general was satisfied that mccabe lied under oath. Telling your girlfriend that you cant stand trump and trying to do something about it as reprehensible is protected speech. He must have been removed from the building. For some reason we dont know. Neil not from his job. I doubt that. He can be fired from the Upper Echelon positions but not as a baseline fbi agent because these Civil Service protected. That would require a cause like they found for andy mccabe. Neil if they fired me, i would glue myself to my desk. They would have to get through me first. Im not challenging management on that one. Neil but more dumb questions. All the unnamed, unidentified agents. Horrible things to say about donald trump. Why are they unnamed . To what end . So the fbi which is masterful at gathering evidence is masterful at concealing evidence. Trace but they pick and choose. Correct. I suspect the fbi agents that work for Inspector General horowitz may have used means to obtain these texts that wouldnt pass muster in a courtroom. Neil i see. In order to get them out there but not give the people whose texts they were action against their fellow agents, they wont say who they are. Neil id be remiss if i didnt mention the president signing this order. He hopes to settle this issue. We reverted back to where we were but its not good enough. He could have signed an order that sets forth his values and goals. He signed one that authorized her in her discretion, which means the discretion of the people on the ground to keep the Families Together. This means an interrogation and interview, some demonstration of proof that these kids are the off spring. The president did the right thing. Will it satisfy everybody . Never. Neil clearly not today. The government has to have more hearings because they have to let kids go in 20 days. Neil you know what i think about judges. Too many of them. Neil kevin brady believes this issue could finish so they the cheer something else. More after this. Very excited for the vote tomorrow and were going to get this fixed. Neil all right. Homeland security secretary nielson on capitol hill trying to say what the president wants to do, Congress Working with the administration will fix this problem. Thats the hope anyway. Its not going away easily. The president signing this executive order today that will stop this treatment of separating kids from their parents along the boarder. The aclu is complaining, prominent democrats complaining even though the president did what they want him to do. Its not good enough. The read from the house ways and means chair, kevin brady. Congressman, he cant win for love or money but maybe the feeling is that hes got to do more. The pressure is on republicans to do just that, more. Have a comprehensive deal complete and soon. What do you think . Yes, so i think what the president did is a temporary fix. We need a permanent solution. Tomorrow the democrats are interesting in keeping Families Together and finding a good solution for the dreamers, tomorrow about this time theyll have a chance to join republicans to do this. I think look, this is a very i think strong bill. It shuts the back door of illegal immigration. Starts to fix the front door of legal immigration, which needs it, keeps the Families Together and finds a path for dreamers that earn it, work, get an education or serve in the military, a very strong bill. Im challenging democrats to join us in making this the law. Neil chairman, a lot of attention has been taken away from the six months or to look back at the tax cuts that went into effect. You and speaker ryan and others were promoting the growth that has happened since. Did this rob you of that . Well, look, the attention is here. No doubt about it. Back home the attention is all on the economy. Six months, its hard to find an economic measure that isnt better significantly now than it was before tax reform. The big news today is manufacturers, they used to be the most pessimistic about the future. Now they have the highest optimism as of today in their 20year history. More than seven out of ten are either hiring, raising wages for their workers or planning to invest more. So clearly americas back for our manufacturers. The tax codes and more balanced regulations, thats the reason for it. Neil chairman, were you surprised . A lot of people look at the tax cuts for corporation are permanent, not so for individuals. I know you want to address that. Theres been frustration. A lot of companies are using money to buy back stock. Nothing wrong with that. But theres some companies that shared the loot with their workers, bonuses, some bought equipment, Capital Spending went up. But was its to the degree you hoped for . Yes. Every one of those actions, investing in the work force, buying equipment, to raise wages, bringing dollars back from overseas, announcing new investments in america and going forward, the reason i say the best is yet to come, because so much of this was designed to bring jobs and investment and Research Back to america. Those are little longer term, but across the country, were talking to businesses who are locating those facilities now in america, putting the patents not in ireland but in the u. S. , doing the research here. Every one of those actions at the end of the day helps the worker and that family. Neil so you trace a lot of that to the tax cuts, without which it wouldnt have happened . Thats and balanced regulation, which President Trump deserves redid it for as well. Now, the old eight years or economy was driving like it was in a school zone. Every sign post, higher, uncompetitive code, more and more regulations. Now it feels like were back on the highway where america used to be and
