Federal prosecutor Forde Fairchild says the trouble with jamal dean started with Gang Violence back in march of 20 13. Continuing and eventually leading to the shooting of Sioux City Police officer Kevin Mccormick that april. It fueled the manhunt that eventually brought dean to justice. More than two years later, the case officially closed tuesday with the sentencing of deans last two Co Conspirators. Being a small part of the team that brought jamal dean to justice and convinced everyone who helped him that it was a mistake and a criminal mistake to help him, thats as good a thing as ill probably ever accomplish professionally, said Forde Fairchild, federal prosecutor. Thirteen in all were charged in connection to deans crimes, but the final two Co Conspirators. Evette morris hernandez and estebanhernandez were both sentenced tuesday, given prison time for their role in the case. But instead of remembering the bad, investigators and prosors are honoring the bravery of one sioux city officer. I would also like to mention Kevin Mccormick, who is my hero. I have watched this video repeatedly and i still become very emotional, and very proud of his service to our community, mccormick said. More than two years after being shot in the face by dean, mccormick says he still loves being with the police, but hes glad to put this all behind him. Relieved in many ways, but i suppose that just to know that this was it, that we can now move on and begin focusing on the other bad guys and bad gals out there, said Kevin Mccormick, Sioux City Police officer shot by jamal dean. Others echoed that sentiment, saying they fsioux city is now safer because the dean case is finally closed.
