Kccis rose heaphy is in studio rose steve, thursday night, the Clive City Council adopted an updated flood Response Plan for walnut creek and north walnut creek. City leaders say the rainy summer and even the wet december took them by surprise. Matt it was a situation where the creek rose a lot faster than weve been accustomed to. Rose last june, flooding in clive took over roads and apartments. Stranded cars and and debris filled the area. Its a scene the city wants to prevent. Matt what were trying to do is take into account those fasterrising events. And make sure that, if were may be three stages or three levels away from that event, prepping and staging. Rose in june, the water level was ankledeep at university larry we spent thousands of dollars on cleanup and overtime to try and get back up and running. Rose but store owner larry bever says, even with the citys updates, hes still concerned. He says hed like to see more. Larry i think its not enough id much rather see a permanent flood gate arrangement down here, to protect everybody on the north side of university. Rose the city is also looking at how fema will update the flood plain map. The proposed updates would add about 160 properties to the impacted area, meaning those owners would need to get flood insurance. Matt were just trying to ensure that were getting information out to our residents on potential impact. Rose the city of clive will hold an informational meeting on march 21, to give an update on the new Response Plan and the proposed femas flood plain map.
