But this is all fresh snow accumulated in the last few hours. Weve got a good foot of fresh snow here. Its actually not as wet as i thought it was. On our drive out here, we saw rain snow fixture and it has colder. Mobile weather lab tells me its 21 degrees. Its not coming down consistently. No longer that wet heavy snow. What were seeing is once heavy snow has frozen over morrison is where we saw change a little bit. Our roadways from wet to icy and the on ramps where youre going to get in trouble because the snow has accumulated there and the snow plows on i70 and they havent dwon to the off and on ramps its tricky this morning. You want to give yourself a lot of time when commuting to work. Live from genesee, jaime leary, cbs 4 morning news. From being in evergreen, you get further up the hill, it gets deeper. Whats the story. Like alan said, the further snowing harder. I70 in de soto creek, you see the snow still falling. Were going to check with joel hillan in a minute. Starting to filter in. This is going to taper over the next couple of hours. And take away the clouds, you can see snow in the foothills and heavier snow fall just to our south. As we zoom into the denver area downtown, were on the dry side. No rain or snow for us. Light, if theres anything out there. South of town, seeing things are going to ease on up. More to the north, estes park, weather nice snow. Nederland, 7. From canyon city all way down to trin trinidad, heavier snow fall too. Checking in with our future cast, were going to see this fade off and by lunch time, a little snow in the high country in denver. Clear skies as we head into the afternoon hours. Temperatures, 29 degrees around 8 00 a. M. 37 by noon. And close to 40 by 2 00 and more sunshine through the afternoon and it with joel hillan, how is our drive going . I25 between c 470 and e 470 to the north, youre going to be faced with an easy drive. Near colorado, and as you make your way through the bridges and the tech center, its a wet drive. Thats what both lauren and alan were talking about. The further west you go and the higher in elevation, the tougher that commute is going to be. I70, theres train restrictions in place. Us 6 over Loveland Pass in both directions. Let me tilt this, you get south of town, and thats where we see trouble as well. As you make your way from south, its just tough. We have people driving 20 milesanhour slower than the speed limit. Shawn chitnis is showing us the snow. Lets get a picture. How is it going, shawn . Reporter theres a good amount of snow. We did get a good amount on the sidewalks and its on the roads and thats where you might run into challenges here. There are plenty of plows weve seen going up and down the streets making their best to make your commute easier. Lets look at what we saw overnight. Descent snow fall falling downtown and the denver tech center, but not stinging to the roads. Didnt get as much snow in lakewood. It was falling, and sticking to not making it onto the roads. It was getting wet, so thats another challenge. The roads not looking too bad deal over here in lakewood, theres a descent amount especially on the side street and on your car, youre going to see a descent amount of snow. Things youll run into and want to prepare for as you head out the door for the day. Shawn chitnis. Behind you, we see the road s s plowed, but they look shiny which means they can be slippery. A denver officer is expected to be okay after being shot in the lower left leg. Police were burglary and ended in the shooting. Ive been shot. Southbound on lowell. Shots fired. One of the shooting suspects was caught at the scene. The other ran off in the area of 32nd and lowell. This is a busy intersection and one woman was startled by the commotion. The crooks didnt know what was going on and it sound like they were laughing at me and they ducked down and it was like a movie. I was scared. You could see the cops. We ran outside to the back to see what was going on. The suspect car jacked a vehicle and drove to 35th and lowell. The crime spree ended there where the man was shot and killed in a gun fight with police. Were awaiting word on the identity of the officer as well as all of the names of the suspects. New this morning, a commuter into a crane killing one person. The crash took place at 9 00 local time. It happened in a town called galson 78 miles east of the amsterdam. A brutal attack with a pregnant woman will deliberate reporter prosecutors say murdering lane would have been a side effect of what lane wanted. You cant steal a baby from them and rip it out of their abdomen without trying to kill them. Lane was obsessed with pregnancy faking her own pregnancy for a year. She even had a baby shower. But her lie boiled over when she said she was still pregnant three months after she should have given birth. Her defense calls her guilty of attempted manslaughter and says lanes attack was hasty she never planned, prepared or processed anything that happened on march 18th. Guilt under the lesser manslaughter charge was made possible after the judge heard the trials testimony. Wilkins was at lanes home for an hour responding to an ad for maternity clothes. Lane showed no regard for wilkins life. When youre trying to determine what was someone thinking, what did they intend when they harmed another human being, you have to look at how they went about inflicting the harm. Thats dan bush reporting. The jury deliberated for six hours yesterday. Well keep you updated on what happens in court. To the latest in the uber driver shooting in michigan. Jason dolton appeared in court via video link. He randomly shot at people in three separate attacks. It started at an apartment complex where one woman was shot multiple times, a neighbor came outside when she heard the gunshots. She was talking curled up in a ball and asking about her kids. Police say dolton admitted to shooting a man and his 17yearold son at a car dealership and they died and killed all the while, apparently driving passengers around on uber rides and dolton passed a black ground check and had no criminal history. If you look on the weather lab tires, its sticking in the tires making for a slick drive. The road is icy and ill show freezing. 20 degrees here. Ill step on the other side. 20 ago. I feel like the temperatures are dropping. When we hit morrison on our drive, it started to turn from that wet heavy rain snow mix to a more light crystal snow. We struggled with the off ramp getting to genesee. Its very the plow havent made it onto the off ramps off i70. You can hear the chains on the tires too. A lot of train restrictions in place. Icy roadways and still some snow accumulating on the on and off ramp. Be careful and allow more time for your commute because its coming down. Not a lot of wind to deal with, but dropping temperatures here, and the snow still coming down. To keep an eye on that and your morning commute as well. You see jaimes live shot where the snow is coming down. Be careful. Joel is going to have an update on the Road Conditions in a moment. Coated cars and grassy areas and the rocks out there. Lets look at whats going on our satellite and here in denver, we have dried out. South of denver and south of that, as you head into southern colorado, we have nice snow fall. Taking away the clouds, you can get a big picture. Douglas county and south of town towards parker and ohio springs and golden, we have descent snow fall. Its coming down nicely. Up to the north, through allens park into boulder, getting descent snow fall. Allens park were waiting for updated snow totals. Pueblo and colorado springs, watch out for snowy conditions along i70. A lot of this has wrapped up for us. We could have light snow in the high country and winds are going to pick up with this. In the southern part of the state, this afternoon, we have a chance for snow fall, but we clear out here across the front range, Eastern Plains and into the high country and into our northern mountains at foothills. Overnight tonight, skies clear. Tomorrow morning, its going to be chilly and mostly sunny skies tomorrow. Nice day tomorrow. Winter through tomorrow. Some places picking up 1 to 4 inches of snow into trinidad, and san juans could pick up several inches as snow could fall through the day. Lets check with our temperatures this morning. Were starting off with 28 in greeley. 32 for boulder and fort collins. 27 in lineman. 13 in leadville and 31 in grand junction. For your temperatures today, we get to 40 later on today. 42 in boulder. 46 in fort collins. Upper 40s in the Eastern Plains and 29 in frisco and 43 in grand junction. Tomorrow, we return to springlike temperatures. 51 on thursday, and by thursday, were knocking on the doors of 70. Joel, how is it on the roads . Its dark on c 470 on the westbound direction passed university right now. You can further to the west, let me show you c 470 and can carol. You can see the accumulation. As the cars pass, youll see the spray behind snow and slush. And this is the worse as you travel along c 470. The chain restrictions in place near the Howard Johnson tunnel through to the adverse conditions. Across the denver metro area, this icon is indicating theres spin offs into the foothills due to the amount of snow fallen. A different situation in the denver metro area.
