Neighborhood lie a variety of metals. And and each yellow flag marks an item of interest. Most of this is probably gonna be names. Reporter but some may indicate a military explosive. It is possible. And thats what were trying to find out. Reporter the nearby hayden park on Green Mountain was used by the National Guard in the early 1900s for artillery training. Last year an investigation organized by the department of defense found park that had to be destroyed. Now investigators want to determine if there are any hazardous items in this decadesold neighborhood. Why warrant this done wasnt this done before this neighborhood was built . It goes back to how the government turned over property in the past. And the mistakes that were made at that point. Reporter the governmentcontracted crews will spend the next couple weeks marking yards before eventually explosives. Even though the yellow flags are littering these lawns now, it may not be as bad as it looks. I do not believe were going to find anything that poses an explosive hazard. The search for a driver who may have caused the death of a cyclist last night near the entrance to carter lake in larimer county. Troopers sate driver of a white sedan and small suv bumped the cyclist, jason holden, causing him to fall off the bike. He was hit by another car and died. The first driver left the scene. The latest on a 71yearold woman attacked by a teenager as he tried to help. She picked up a group of hitchhikers monday night in boulder canyon. This teenager here, Jeffrey Collins, later beat her. There is an active warrant out for his arrest. Tom mustin live at Boulder Community hospital tonight where that victim is recovering. Deputies do believe this teenager is dangerous. Reporter we knowha Jeffrey Collins had a previous record, after the attacks he went home, went to school and talked to his probation officer as if nothing had happened. And his apparent as have left that 71yearold woman fighting for her life here in a hospital. Im in apno over whats happened with her reporter Boulder County resident donna gayle is still stunned after the brutal attack on her neighbor, 71yea. Reporter monday night she picked up three teenaged hikers including Jeffrey Collins near her home on lefthand canyon drive. She brought them to her mountain cabin to wait for their ride. You cant be lost in this canyon without five people stopping to help. Reporter the three teens have been camping in the area. Inside the home without warning, collins struck her with a fire poker causing massive head injuries and multiple fractures. At one point there was some talk between y of possibly stealing her car. The others did not like that idea. But as it came as a surprise, the suspect blouft struck her in the head. Reporter collins has a priest records in colorado. He fled the scene and hitchhiked up the canyon. His friends ran to a neighbors house to get attack. Just a tragedy of some someone being repaid we kindness this way. There was concern the flames would reach the homes but fire crews got a quick handle over, kept it to 3 acres. No injuries. Two construction workers are recovering after a nier a highrise downtown. Denver firefighters made quick work of the flames. A report of shots fired put four schools on lockdown early this morning. It turned out to be an attempted robbery at 32nd and clay. Starting on sunday, some crimes like property theft will only be reported online. Other crimes can only be reported over the phone. If your home is broken into, service officers, not patrol officers, will be the ones to respond. It does increase the respse up for something faster, that would be an improvement. He wants to free up officers for emergencies. Police will continue to respond to active crimes where the suspect is on the scene in all emergencies. Colorado considering allowing post Traumatic Stress disorder to be treated with pot f. So colorado would join 18 other states that already consider ptsd a condition legally treatable by marijuana. The states medical pot law treatment. But a state panel of lawmakers say the legislature shall consider it. Reporter veteran greg duran suffers from post Traumatic Stress disorder and uses pot to treat his siments symptoms, just not symptoms, something not legal under current colorado law. Were not gonna give up. Reporter he can buy recreational pot, but not medically. Weve tried everything under the state guideline, under the medical board. But we keep getting denied. Reporter after several failed attempts to get that changed, sprpz of medical pot for ptsd are going back to state lawmakers. In committee today, supporters testify this issue is not going away. We have been fighting to get ptsd added to the list of qualifying conditions for how many years now . Im gonna say flat out, reporter they do i understand the police of sufferers and scientists to add ptsd to the list of eight other conscience already approved for medical marijuana treatment. They havent changed that position. There is insufficient medical evidence that marijuana is an effective treatment. Reporter 2017 is looking like pot issues will again be a major fight inside the capital. The ptsd medical pot bill will be discussed session.
