KCNC Through The Decades February 3, 2016

The ruler stays up and down without any assistance at all. In the denver metro area, we recorded a foot of snow for the suburbs, but the front range,s was buckhorn mountain, in larimer koun, just to the west of county, just west of fort collins. In denver, officially at dia, we recorded 11. 3 inches of snow. But the average for the entire month of february in denver is 5. 7 inches of snow. So that means just out of this storm alone, we got about twice as much as we normally get for the entire month of february. As for right now, most of the falling snow is moving out of heeshg but these temperatures are going to get very cold tonight. And ed greene will fill you in on the forecast tonight. Cbs4 news. Quite a site, justin, thanks. The main roads and highways are wet, but clear, just getting out of your driveway can be a tough task, now, in denver, plows do plan to hit those residential denvers highlands neighborhood for us, and stan, those plows passing by can make it hard just to get to your car. Reporter you know, it, jim, just enough snow to get the residential plows out on city. They dont do a full job, but just enough so that you can get heres an idea. Take a look at this street, on hooker and hayward place, and the plows come through and take one pass to clear a line, they dont even get all the way down to the pavement. If youre stuck on the street, this is what youre your car will look like, 68 inches of snow and this car looked basically like an igloo. Crews have been out here since early this morning, they knew that this storm was big, once the sun came up. And you can see those plows going all over the city, we saw country skig down the street. Now, these crews will be out for the next several hours, on have to go all the way through the night and into tomorrow depending on just how bad the storm is. Or how bad the snow is, when we talked to people today, they say if the residential plows werent out, they wouldnt have been able to leave their house. Were really happen about it, because the last major snowstorm, our street was icy for weeks after, even after all of the snow had melted. Would be impossible to get anywhere without that happening. Reporter so Denver Public works still assessing just how much work they have to do around the city. And there is certainly a lot of plowing still to do. But the major concern overnight temperatures. If you look back at this car, still a lot of snow out here, youre going to have people starting to dig their cars out because once the temperatures drop, all of this snow will turn to ice and another day where you street. Bush, cbs4 news. Most schools, including the that meant kids got to enjoy the snow. Our Jennifer Brice watched the fun, shes in Highlands Ranch and jen, those big piles of white are a kids dream, arent they . Reporter oh, its a big dream, jim, indeed. Snow days are the one day or the year when you go into your kids room, its not a hassle to get them out of bed, they get out like a lot of the kids here in Highlands Ranch at paint brush park. When the snow day strikes, out comes the sleds and the snowboards, paint brush park in s warming with kids who got the day off from Douglas County schools. I got up at 5 30 and saw that all the schools were open and wasnt happy, but i got up at 6 30 and saw they were closed. My mom wakes me up and says its a snow day, you can go back to sleep, so i decided to get up any way and come out here. Reporter grab your board and come to the hill. Yep. Reporter adults out here, too. Play hooky from work, and the kids. Reporter tom owns his own business but says he knows a lot of parents have to find plans for the kids because they still went to work. I would be stumped there, i wouldnt know what to do with them. Reporter hoping for another one tomorrow . Hopefully, yes, i would love one. Reporter and i got to tell you, take a look at this, theres so many people out here, but this hill is actually steeper, wider, and longer in my opinion, than some of the resorts up in the mountains. So some of these kids on the snowboards and skis are getting great reps in today and theyre same time. But a lot of kids, a lot of parents just having a ton of fun out here. Back to you. All right. Jennifer, thanks. A snapshot of j. R. Walking through the snow, after feeding the animals in limon this morning and thanks to shannon, found all of the shovels she needs to clear the snow in steamboat springs. Reporter, send us your pictures to you report at cbsdenver. Com. Now, to that drive for the championship. No practice for the broncos in california today. However, that doesnt mean it was an off day for all of the players, mark has checking in. When playing in the super bowl, you better expect to address the media a lot. Reporter yeah, jim, we just did the big Opening Night last night, an hour long with all of the reporters and then the broncos woke up and talked to us again today. At least ten of the bigger name players along with the coach. As you mentioned, broncos getting today off, just like their normal tuesday back in denver. They got the rest of the day off. Not sure if players will be hopping on a bus today, to go check out the city, not after what happened yesterday, when on the way back from practice, the team buses got cut off, and three of the buses ended up running into each other. Gary kubiak said every player was checked out and everybody is but, that at the time, it was a little scary. On the first bus and i had my head down, and the next thing, you know, the bus swerved and i thought we was cool. Then the next thing you know its a bump. Im like whoa. I was definitely scary, i was talking and looking down. And fortunately, everybody was safe. Nobody was hurt and everybodys was safe. Reporter this afternoon, the nfl invited the media into levi stadium for one last look around. The field is painted. Most of the signs have been hung. And the place is pretty much ready for sunday. As you would imagine, security pretty tight around the stadium, you might be able to hear a helicopter over my right now, every measure in place to keep fans safe. We will hear from the broncos boss later at 6 00. This announcement will excite you, lady gaga will sing the national anthem, that was announced today. Good news. All right. Thanks very much. Mark. Other news, an update as we have new pictures from last saturdays motorcycle melee at the National Western complex, a member of the Mongols Motorcycle Club was killed. 6 people were wounded. Cbs4s Rick Sallinger was there that day, and right now, he has new information about the shooting and stabbings. Rick. Reporter jim, the man at the center of attention is Derrick Duran, a department of corrections employee. Picture of him, holding a gun, today, we have more photos from just after that. With one man dead and several others injured, the question being asked is why no arrests . In this photo, department of corrections employee Derrick Duran is seen holding a gun. He is in clothing associated with the iron order motorcycle club. The 16 iron order members that were there were solely outnumbered. And this altercation all started because of the mongols and their attempt to harm and or kill some of our members. Reporter in this photo, duran is seen with his hands behind his back. Presumably cuffed. Then, in another picture, hes standing with the police with his hands not cuffed. But the lawyer for the mongols claim to us that duran fired his weapon and should be in custody. The entire motorcycle that mr. Duran is being given preferential treatment because he is Law Enforcement. Reporter at a News Conference yesterday, Denver Police insisted no special treatment is being given to the iron order. Which has been identified with Law Enforcement in the past. The group that was down here, that weve talked to, that weve identified that are willing to you know, come back, do not show at least, have not identified to us, that they have Law Enforcement ties or connections. Reporter with each side blaming the other, this investigation may take time. Until any charges are filed. Duran has not been arrested or charged, the attorney for the iron order indicated to us that this could be a case of selfdefense. Of them were asked to meet with the media again today. This time, at the team hotel in santa clara. The session lasted about an hour, and then the players were given the day off, to do as they pleased. Now, youd think that a Northern California native like c. J.
