They said they definitely got thanks to great weather, harvest season is going well for iowa farmers. In todays agribusiness report, one soybean farmer gives his take on this years yields. But right now, heres a look at todays opening farm markets. Good morning its. Good morning this is the david geiger. Great weather conditions led to the majority of soybeans harvested in the state. According to the iowa crop report. Only 17 percent is left in fields. But. There are exceptions. South central iowa had a really rough season when it came to rain. So i headed down there on monday. To see how the season looked. And how well beans were coming out. Weve been off to a real good start here, here in the soybean harvest, see were running 60, just under 60 bushel right now. We had some beans that we planted in april, weve taken all them out. Were now into soybeans that were planted into early june. Its amazing for what theyre yielding, for being planted in early june. But i guess when you have 32 inches of rainfall in a year it helps grow a crop. Doug holliday, family farm here in greenfield, iowa. Were about 50 percent done with soybean harvest. I think thats about where South Central iowa is today on the report. Some of the elevators are having some logistic problems. They just told me that the one theyve been hauling to theyre going to fill a temporary storage up with soybeans tomorrow. Some of these fields we took on so much water this year we had some erosion. Weve been fixng, ephemeral gullies in the farms and seeding rye cover crop on them. Weve seeded a lot of rye already this year on our prevent plant acres. I have a buddy the other day and he says, what a beautiful year, great crops, big bushels, and when were all said and done i dont know if were going to make any money. We had a lot of fun but i dont know if we made money. More than 80 percent of soybeans are expected harvested nationally according to market analysts. And corn should be more than 60 percent done. Thats causing a tug of war in the markets. Grains are higher by a couple pennies across the board. A little bit of a turnaround tuesday type of trade. Not a whole lot of fresh news out right now as we kind of wind down with harvest. Heres a big tugofwar going on right now with the better yields coming in on corn, the excess corn at market, thats the bearish sentiment coming in and in the bullish ide is well once this gets done farmer sellings going to dry up. Exports are good right now, should get better if we do go lower and longer term should be back trading higher. Good trade yesterday, good cash trade last week, getting a follow through here today. Getting a little sloppy in the feeders at times but still hanging in. Weve got a cattle on feed report this week, i think we are nearing up the basis up drastically. Cash versus futures. There may not even be a basis after this week, but i think the board is fairly well priced where we are treating at right now. Very impressive trade there today, thats where a lot of support s coming from the cattle, weve got good demand. Were looking out into the first quarte of next year. Looking to feb aprils anything above 70 in feb up near 75 in april we want to be hedgers there. Thanks for joining us on the agribusiness report. Ill catch you tomorrow. Well post a video every day in the agribusiness section of kcrg. Com. Youll find it under the news tab. Im david geiger with the agribusiness report. Trt oc experts say concrete is bound to crack.
