In todays agribusiness report, senator Chuck Grassley gives his opinion on a controversial cut to Crop Insurance in the deal. But right now, heres a look at todays opening farm markets. Good morning its. Agribusiness report. Im david geiger. The joint resolution of disapproval. That would scrap the new clean water rule from the epa and army corps of engineers. Will be taken up by the senate in a week or two. Its led by iowa senator joni ernst. And yesterday. She released a statement saying. There is enough support in the senate to consider the bill without a filibuster. Last month she led a group of 49 senators introducing the sj resolution 22. Which would get rid of the waters of the us bill. Ernst says. Wotus is ill conceived and harmful to farmers and small businesses. And she is pleased to move forward with efforts to confront it. A budget deal was reached wednesday by members of the house. However. It has a controversial cut to Crop Insurance to the tune of three billion dollars over ten years. The house and Senate Agriculture committees worked to remove that cut. But in a roundabout way. House ag chair Michael Conaway won a commitment from Republican Leaders to address the cuts in a later omnibus spending bill. But it still passed in the legislation. No amendments were allowed in this vote. In iowa senator Chuck Grassleys weekly news conference. He says the deal could disenfranchise farmers with Crop Insurance. It cuts nearly a third of funds. And this 3 billion dollar hit on Crop Insurance would probably get farmers back into the mode of why buy Crop Insurance . and then, theyre going to know the governments going to come in like they do on other natural disasters and pay 100 percent. So, i think weve got something good with 92 percent of the farmers are participating in it. And dont screw it up. The original bill language did not specify the cuts. But sets a targeted reduction of insurer reimbursement rates. From the average 14 percent. To nine percent. The grain markets have slowed down. And that could be. Because of end of the month trading. Weve really just been in kind of a choppy sideways pattern for weeks, here now, which on the good side of that is, weve gone through that period, weve. Moved through harvest, at a record clip almost, i mean gosh weve got not a lot of harvest, on corn or beans out there left to do and and the markets continued to hold in so i mean part of thats reflective of the fact that farmers have done a great job of keeping grain held off the market. Or any excess grain held off the market. Compounded this week is this is the last week of the month. Traders tend to, will tend to be a bit reluctant on at that point in time. To four weeks here, have done a great job of recuperating. Weve gained of the losses over the summer months. Seem to have kind of hit a brick wall though right now for the last week. You know, this rally probably got ahead of itself as well. Now weve got to find a little more of an equilibrium to where the prices should be. Hogs of course, have gone the other way around. The spread activities just have gone back and forth and back and forth with the hogs and of course ample numbers coming to for slaughter at this point in time. So, here in a short week, ten days, weve pressed hogs all the way back down to what were the lows in the summer months.
