Lieutenant governor kim reynolds focused on ag issues this week at a conference. She focused on the future of education and Water Quality funding. But right now, heres a look at todays opening farm markets. Good morning its. Good morning, this ithe david geiger. The Iowa Executive Branch is still afterr its savav initiative. At the Agribusiness Association of iowa showcase and conference. Lieutenant governor kim reynolds was speaking on some of the ag issues in iowa. She spoke mostly on the governors proposal funding education and Water Quality until 2049. In 2009 a 1 percent sales tax was approved for 20 years for school infrastructure. The governor wants to extend it another 20 years. Guaranteeing the first 10 Million Dollars of annual growth to schools. And using the extra growth for Water Quality funding. He estimates it would make 20 point seven billion dollars for schools. And four point seven billion for Water Quality. But the proposal is struggling against the legislative branch. Get it through. Reach out to your legislators and encourage them to work with us. Its a framework, were willing to look at different ideas, different options, or certainly if they have a better idea that can generate that kind of money were more than happy to work with them. But there is a sense of urgency and we just kind of say dont let perfect be the enemy of good. Reynolds says they think with designated funds, scientific based programs, dealing with absentee landowners, and communities across the state. The new initiative would end criticism of iowas Water Quality goals. In the wasde report. Corn imports are projected 10 million higher. And soybean endings stocks are up 10 million. But the markets dont seem to be reacting much. Very minimal response, report, mostly neutral what we expect. No big surprise. The grain markets stilil. Very choppy really thin, china is on their lunar holiday seeing siness from them. If you have a dollar, via dollar trading back h hher today as well too. Corn did have a fresh sale to japan this morning to japan. That did underpin the market a little bit but other than that theres just not a whole lot of fresh news. Larger carryout yesterday, pretty much what was expected and this time theyre just awefully slow and choppy and thats what we seeing with the market right now. We got kind of an up and d down, a big whipsaw big selloff on monday and the cash did not come in as good as expected late on friday of last week. And then here were back higher. The key is can we pull of that 136138 this week o onot and keep this market chugging higher. Little back and fill had some profit taking had a nice, roughly over ten dollar rally in some of these contracts. Still think the trend is still up right now longer term as weights are dropping and cash is still very supportive. Hopefully well see some fresh demand as we come into spring here too. A new b bget proposal on tuesday. President obamas suggested a ten year. 18 billion dollar cut to the federal Crop Insurance program.
