Were going to send it back to our studio in cedar rapids where brea is standing by with a look at todays top stories. Mondayits the day for the minimum wage in the county. The board approved the second reading of the ordinance yesterday. One more yes vote would boost the minimum wage from 7dollars and 25 cents an hour now to 825 an hour january 1st. Then each year, it would go up by a dollar until 2019. The minimum wage would top out at 1025 an hour. Not all supervisors agree on the issue. Supervisor john harris represents the smaller parts of lin he says Business Owners wont be happy with the change. They are apparently telling him the biggest concern is not the first increase but paying workers over 10 dollars in two years. Harris believes many cities will opt out if this ordinance passes and state lawmakers will through their 2 cents in soon. I think state legislators are paying more attention to this than anyone thinks they are. Im confident this year well see some legislative action in des ordinance last year. The wage went up to 9 dollarsand 15 cents in may and will go up to 1010 an hour next january 5 cities have opted out of that increase. The city of cedar rapids is evicting linn county from one of its properties. Thats forcing Court Administrators to move a huge archive of old files to a new storage site. In about a year, the city plans to tear down the hubbard ice building to m Flood Control efforts. All the old files are moving about three miles south to a new spot. Iowa law requires the county to keep the records for ten years, sometimes longer depending on the type of file. When they get to the new home, Officials Say there wont be much left over space. The area we are going to is much smaller than hubbard. We will be full to the brim. The county has gone electronic and is no longer adding files to the archive. Linn county pays about fifty at the hubbard ice building. The new spot will cost fifty four thousand to start, with a two point five percent increase per year for 10 years. Police in iowa city accuse a cedar rapids man of sexually assaulting a woman at A Jimmy Johns restaurant. Police say a woman had gone inside a restroom at the downtown jimmy johns around 2 30 monday morning. And thats when they say 20 year old grant ajango walked in, locked the door and sexually assaulted her. Police say she fought b to some friends. Those friends and jimmy john workers forced open the door, and they held ajango president obama says the us has an obligation to help laos get rid of unexploded bombs. The us secretly dropped the bombs during the vietnam war. Obama is the first president to visit laos, and toured a prosthetics Museum Exhibit yesterday. In laos every year. The president says the us will invest 90 Million Dollars over the next three years to the effort. Our hope is that this funding will mark a decisive step forward in the work of rolling back the dangers of uso, clearing bombs, supporting survivors and advancing Better Future for the people of laos. The pentagon will help find those explosives. It will give records of where the bombs were dropped. Hilla trump took to National Television to discuss national security. The democratic and republican president ial nominees appeared separately at the same town hallstyle meeting on military issues. Clinton says having steadiness is the most important quality needed for a commander inchief. Trump explained he has a plan to defeat the terror group isis, but refused to elaborate. Lets go back out now to our crew out live in iowa city ahead of hancers grand at the hancher practice room. Of course, this brand new building is standing after years of construction. The ui decided to replace the old hancher when the massive flood of 2008 badly damaged the building. When the university decided to replace old hancher, it decided to give the new building some brand new features. The giant practice room is one. For any theater or performing center, a rehearsal room may get glossed over in the planning, but not at hancher. Production manager Brian Anstedt took us through the room that you may not see but is critical to the final result. Chris for any performer, the ability to have rehearsal space is critical and here at hancher, we see this with this rehearsal room. Take me through a little bit about why were seeing what were seeing in here. Its very spacious, lots of seating as well. Brian its a room about 50 feet by 60 feet. Its got the floor just like the main stage. The same as the main grid and the technicians can walk above it. Chris is it critical to replicate the experience for when youre on the real stage for a real room like this for the performers to make it where your performers feel comfortable and get an accurate feel of what its going to be like when they do it for real. Brian its important to have similarsized space for when they rehearse in here, they can go out and have it be just like the main stage. Is there is plenty of Natural Light that has come on in. When i think of a practice room or a rehearsal room, i think of some dark closet that might be hard to get to. Thats definitely not the case here. Brian our whole back wall is windows. In fact, we have another Performance Space back there. This is great. Weve had some dance classes out there and theyre loving it because of all of the Natural Light they have. Chris i also understand theres an ampitheatre thats right behind there. With the performers but make more people aware of what may be going on inside. Brian weve had one show already out there and the performers play in the pad and the audience sits in the grass and its an awesome space as well. Still ahead this hour, were talking to hanchers executive director. Well find out what people sitting in these seats and well find out what makes this stage so special to people whove been with hancher for area very quickly this morning leaving the Daylight Hours dry and quiet. Temperatures will bounce back into the lower 80s south and upper 70s towards the north. Our next area of low pressure is not far off though, and will begin to impact our weather beginning tomorrow. Plan on storms in the area for friday and especially on friday night. This weekend continues to look great with highs into the 70s and lows into the 50s. The plan weatherwise for saturday night continues to be unchanged with clear sky and 60s. Today gradual clearing. Wind nw 515. High 82 tonight increasing clouds. Wind light e. Low 62 tomorrow showers and thunderstorms likely. Locally heavy rain possible. High 78 tom. Night lingering showers and a few thunderstorms. Wind nw 5 10. Low 57 chris and nicole, back to you thanks kaj. Still ahead, we have a special look at something many people in the audience will never see. Were taking you behind the curtain, back stage, to see how it all comes together. But right now, heres a look at todays opening farm markets. Good morning report, im david geiger. The iowa crop Progress Report says 80 percent of corn has dented. And 14 percent has matured. But in central iowa. Near pleasantville combines are already rolling out. Its not the earliest kevin smith has ever combined corn. But it might be for this field. Seem out this early but if its time its time. On one side of the street the field is green, on the other, its ready to go. In the first week of september. Kevin smith and his dad are harvesting a hundred and two day corn planted in early april. The monitor is reading 20 to 21 percent moisture. Which smith says is perfect for it would be. And the corn is pulling some solid numbers. Its not as good as last year but its above average, this is making between 190 and 200. In fact. The rows hes on are three quarter miles. He cant go down the entire line without unloading some grain. Despite the early start, smith says hes still worried about the start of the season. First time out, theyre not used to having you out there and machines nowadays are so big that they take up so much of the road. You try to get over and give them as much room as you can but sometimes you have no place to go to. Smith says by the middle of the season. Most people are used to combines on the roads. So just be aware. There will be Farm Equipment moving about now. Tiled that field every 40 feet. That made it much drier to harvest earlier. Theres some green across the board today. With corn and meats rallying a bit. Market analyst angie setzer with citizens llc has more. Were starting to see a little more strength or a bit more recovery, or perhaps follow through from the buying that we saw there the tail end of last week. Theres some talk that perhaps. Some of these really heavy rains that were seeing continue to deliver some heavy rain to the western or could potentially in the delta region could potentially be limiting or hurting soybean conditions or perhaps even soybean meal Going Forward with some disease occurring. We are starting to see some actual combines yield reports coming in corn and they are indicating a little bit lighter than what the usdas been playing through so far. So thats kind of giving us some strength there. It looks like we finally ran out of sellers in the cattle and higher today. Fundamentall y speaking nothing really significantly has changed. We still have heavier weights, we still have the same supply of protein. On the market that was weighing heavy. Theyll be here if were moving lower but after a while as i said you tend to run out of sellers and some buyers resurface thinking that perhaps weve overdone it and i wouldnt be surprised to see some follow through correction again into tomorrow or even the end of the week. And thats all the time i have tuning in. I hope to see you again next time. Well post a video every day in the agriculture section of kcrg. Com. Im david geiger with the agribusiness report. Production manager Brian Anstedt gave us a tour. N we are off to the side of you wont beable to see from the house, but its certainly something we want to show you. Brians joining us now. This is the rigging system. What makes this so special for hancher . B well, we have a number of line sets shows can use with a total of 70, which is a huge amount. So when the shows come in, they put all their drops and their lights on these light sets and we operate them from over here. N so when theres a scene change, thats when this all happens you fly or six guys or girls back here running this system as things come in and go out at the same time. N and just the sheer size of the doors in the backstage thats going to allow for some big shows to come to hancher. B it is. We have a which well show you and its huge. The scenery could be 20 feet tall and we could still get it in here. N the floor of the stage itself is pretty special too tell us about that. B the floor is specially constructed so that its sprung. Its a sprung floor, especially for dancers and for musicals. It gives them the support and a little bit of spring to help them with their dancing. N ive gotta think that the lighting system here at b the lighting is state of the art. There are some leds which is good for energy efficiency. But yes, weve got beautiful equipment in here.
