And nearly a halfyear later, these farms are starting to see things getting back to normal. Good morning this is the good morning this is the agribusiness report. Im david geiger. Earlier in the year. 72 commercial Poultry Farms were confirmed with the bird flu virus. Well the Iowa Department of agriculture announced on friday that the quarantines on all of those farms have been lifted. And they are free to restock birds. All of the sites had to be cleaned and disinfected. Go through tests. And then undergo a three week fallow period. 77 total locations were affected by the high path avian influenza. With 31 and a half million birds. And. It knocked out nearly a half of iowa egg laying hens so far this fall. There has not been a resurgence of the virus. A pair of wisconsin representatives last week introduced a bill that tries to save taxpayers billions dollars through cuts in Crop Insurance. Its called the affirm act. And representativ e ron kind says it will still give a strong safety net for farmers. He says the current Crop Insurance program is wasteful and in need of reform. He claims it will save 24 billion dollars over ten years. This bill comes on the heels of a budget deal that cuts Crop Insurance by three billion last week ended like it started in grains. With a sideways market. Analyst jamey kohake has the recap just kind of a choppy trade, continuing to see a weakness to the downside. There isnt a whole lot of fresh news out. Were winding harvest down. Weve got big supplies northwest, weve got tight supplies out east, theres rumors of importing corn out east. But i still think the big number is exports with corn and beans. Were fairly low priced in the world market, and can that keep the market supported . Also, too, the x factor to shop for is the u. S. Dollar, we are sharply higher there today up over a full point right now. Doesnt make a whole lot of sense, earlier in the week it looked like cash would have hung in at least steady. Maybe 138 area hopefully, started to see long liquidations, stops being hit, panic selling. I still think theres one more rally in this. I think you still trade 140 cash coming into your end and i wouldnt get caught up in selling todays lows at all and we can see where we are next week. I do actually like the action this week, when the cattle were getting slaughtered and the hogs actually hung in half way. Really need the cash markets to turn around, i think you get any type of bullish news any type of cutouts, cash hanging together for a few days in a row, fresh packer demand, you could see a 35 dollar pop very, very quick. Midlast week. Iowa senator joni ernsts resolution of disapproval passed the senate. The bill would end the expanded definition of the epa and army corps of engineers waters of the u. S. Rule. Which she says would expand epa jurisdiction to 97 percent of the state. Ernst says even farmers doing good practices are worried. So, in the midst of that, we have many farmers who are currently engaged in conservation projects. They dont even know if they can proceed with conservation projects to protect water sources, because they are afraid that they will end up with excessive fines from the epa for doing conservation projects. The bill had bipartisan support and is likely to pass in the house. But the white house has threatened to veto the bill if it passes. And thats it for the show today. Thanks for joining. Ill see you again tomorrow. Well post a video every day in the agribusiness section of kcrg. Com. Youll find it under the news tab. Im david geiger with the agribusiness report.
