Holly fifer has some tips to avoid slimming down your wallet too much, in todays health minute. Eating right on a budget starts with a little planning that before you head to the grocery store, plan out your meals in advance, make a Grocery Shopping list and stick to that list when youre shopping. And though it may be a little more trouble, double a recipe from time to time so you can freeze part of it for another day. Buying in bulk is often cheaper. Registered dietitians recommend filling half your plate with fruits and veggies, and buying ones that are in season is often cheaper. Fill the other half of your plate with whole grains and lean meats. And if you want to save a little on that meat . One way to make your meat dollars go further is by adding beans to the mixture and then you can stretch the meat and actually use less in the same dish. Controll ing portion size is another way to help your budget. Experts say if something is in front of us we tend to eat it even when were full. So try using smaller plates. And finally, save going out to eat for special occasions. Dining out is almost always more expensive than cooking your own. And if you get tired of doing all of the work, get the kids to help. For todays health minute, im holly firfer. This years iowa crop could be one for the record books. In todays agribusiness report, a look at the data and how it compares with previous years. Good morning this is the david geiger. This year is a record breaker for iowa corn and bean production. And nationally records also look to be broken. Soybean production looks to be the highest ever at three point 98 billion bushels. And a 48 point three yield is also a record. Corn is predicted to be the Third Largest production on record. And yields are the second highest. The november report has a small margin of error on average. Give or take for corn. And 40 million for beans. The reason for that. Is most farmers are done with harvest and give more accurate data. At the state level, in iowa for instance, we do an objective yield survey where we actually go out into the fields and take physical counts. But were also going out to the producers and asking them what their expected yields are going to be. So, theres two pieces of information is what we use to make our forecast in our Crop Production reports. There are two ways u sda gets the data. Field enumerators go out and take counts. And they send out surveyors to farms asking what the crop looks like. Prillaman says hes thankful for producers and agribusinesse s who complete the survey. Their goal for accuracy is to get back about 80 percent of what they send out. The final yields survey will be released in january. In one of the last iowa crop reports of the season. Farmers are wrapping up the corn harvest. Only about four percent is left statewide. And moving on to postseason fertilizer applications. But. Theres still a sluggish trade in the grain markets. I am still bearish. Im short corn, december corn around 3. 79. I still think lower prices are ahead. The u. S. Dollar is higher once again. And i just dont think that trend is going to stop. And the problem with corn is, corns used as an ethanol product. Crude Oil Continues to hit new lows, down another dollar today, and thats affecting corn. I just short beans from still think to own the grain market at this time. The cattle trade was outstanding. I have taken off about 75 percent of my positions, which were numerous. I am still short, i still think prices are going to the 115 level in the december contract. However, volatility is massive at the current time, and if youre not involved in this market, i would avoid it. Hogs, same thing, very volatile. Avoid this market at the current time, wait for better chart structure to develop. But the Commodity Markets in my opinion are still in trouble. I want to own nothing at the current time.
