35yearold man now faces charges after he took in two 16yearold girls so he could turn them into prostitutes. Police say they found two 16yearold girls as part of a shoplifting investigation, one of whom is missing from chicago. They arrested lawrence campbell, who now faces Human Trafficking charges and charges for using minors to commit crimes. Police say campbell contacted the girls in chicago and asked them to move to his waterloo home. Then, police say campbell arranged for them to have sex with people for money and to the web. State lawmakers today have a better idea on what working and whats not when it comes to iowas newly privatized medicaid system. County supervisors are wondering if towns or cities would want to opt out of the wage increase. I know there has not been a lot of feedback yet but i want to get this on an agenda and have a discussion and also have some comment at our council meeting. I would link the minimum wage to the rate of inflation after 2020. That means if the cost of living goes up, so will the minimum wage. In southern iowa, county supervisors in Wapello County are taking steps to raise the wage. The board voted for the 2nd of 3 times yesterday night to raise the wage to 10. 10 an hour by 2019. Wapello countys poverty rate the the 3rd highest in iowa, and the countys percapita income is the second lowest. Last year Johnson County was its now at 9. 15, and the final step will take it to 10. 10 an hour next year. Renovations on the knutson building in downtown cedar rapids will likely start soon. City Council Members are holding a special meeting today to talk about the project, and hobart Historic Restorations role in it. Last month, the council picked a proposal from hobart to turn the building into apartments and office space. Council members liked the idea of immediately stabilizing the building. Initially, the council considered a plan to turn the building into a magnet school. But the Cedar Rapids School district says it will likely find another location. That same Development Group finished renovations in the neighboring mott building earlier this year. The hobart group used 3 Million Dollars in grants to turn the empty building into commercial offices and loft apartments. The building had sat empty since the 2008 flood. Sunlight will soon power homes in urbana. 100 homes when its up and running in midoctober. The 7acre site will have more than 3,500 panels. Its part of a partnership between 2 electric utility companies. They decided to switch to solar after customers asked for cleaner energy.
