Health minute I'm Tracy McRae like so many other winter mornings Jim rad law fired up a snow blower and got to work clearing his driveway then slush clogged the machine so he threw it into neutral watched the blade stop turning and stuck his hand in the edge of the chute Obviously this was the dumbest thing I've ever done the blades reengaged and in an instant gone with the ends of 3 fingers on his right hand Jim's made an inspiring recovery but he says he couldn't have come this far without some serious help in your hand you have muscles you have tendons ligaments and obviously the bones that hold everything together Marilyn Byrd is an occupational therapist she says the goals of rehab are always to preserve the range of motion reduce swelling and build strength all essential for daily tasks one task Jim doesn't worry about anymore is snow blowing his wife made him give it away he did keep the mangled glove that he was wearing though as a reminder to slow down be safe and count his blessings that the accident wasn't worse for Mayo Clinic radio I'm Tracy McRae. Good afternoon Tucson welcome to the t. Ball game day takeover on sports radio 1290 is the perfection plastic surgery and skin care countdown to show they have to teach me Ok Mike Luke I would say give us a call 880-1290 but we're on a remote broadcast right now so be here with you for the next couple hours break everything down All right guys let's get down to the brass tacks right here you've got Washington going up Washington State right now I think it's fair to say that that's the least. Maybe the least. Program in the conference. And the where about of though I may have to worry about just a little bit on the type of troops especially the way they performed on her what was it like when you would go to Washington say Wow Well you know I was a great time you know the biggest city in the conference and I was it was so bad because you flew into you know Spokane a lot of the times you had to drive a lot of time we stayed in Idaho you know right the you know your state across the border right across the border in Idaho so it was a lot of traveling a lot of scenery when you got there was it was cool Singapore window it was an older town so it was kind of cool seeing the scenery a lot of wheat fields a lot of build mountains and heels which meant that you were there you were there for the classic games yeah I was right there when I would I come back double overtime to 95 district alive and they could. At that time it's been about 9 years since there was a loss to Washington as part of that strict It went on for $38.00 games but that's one of the great comebacks in Arizona history men's basketball football whatever you want to however you want to slice it that's one of the great comebacks Yeah and I wonder if games that we're talking about right now where those guys have everything to gain by performing their best versus you have a in a lot of time is just another game for you of a guys it's a game that you have to get because you're on a road and you want to come away with at least one game but usually we feel like that's a game we should have and Washington when you get to Seattle with a tough win that you you know got about a 4 and now with this road trip you don't go a lot of years ago and they're thinking Ok washes really tough let's do this get our road split come home to sweep the road games etc You got to go you go on this road trip you've got to sweep it you have is a disaster if you lose either of these games at the Washington schools you know that's true but at the end of the year like this man I mean anything can happen at the end of the year when people put together game plans have been watching you play all year you know little injury when want to talk about it right now is happening everybody will know about right now so different things like that could happen that could change the way things come in the pan so I want to go back if I just had and I'll just take over here by your show Ok I thought that there are the a.p. Voters here but let's talk about I want I want to I'm fascinated about that 9095 game because that is when the great comeback there was I was down. With a down 10 with about a minute 15 to go. Great comeback demands up to 40 double overtime. But that comeback might not never happen if not Charley Ranger believe it c'est a technical foul on the Washington state crowd because they threw it on the floor what did you see what would you remember about that you know I remember just out of a sudden it came out they were winning and they were all excited and hyped up 11 person in a crowd were just a little too high and that's basically when he threw it out there we got the free throws and got a chance to get in that huddle and guys just reminded themselves of who we were we were going with the Wildcats and they wanted a reminder themselves who we were and went out to those guys and took a bit is there but that one little thing just some simple like that could give your opportunity to come back you think we'll ever see a streak like that from one team to another in conference like here because I mean that got to be I mean it what it did finish I was 83838 I was going to say 38 or 48 I could remember so I mean essentially you dominated a program for 19 years in this day and age of college basketball do you think you will ever see something like that again. Nar That's right that right it is make your just remind you how great it was I mean he was a guy that he put in at work every time I went to practice one thing that I really took away from him was that he really drilled you at practice and he really got guys prepare to go in no matter where you were to take our business to be able to have a streak like that versus someone for 19 years when you consistently beat them over and over again that's just unimaginable and I would guess that without looking at the scores obviously that game was an all time or in a very very very close call but I would guess 36 of the other of the 38 more tackle yeah they would you know I'm Did my history and as far as what the actual scores were but I guarantee you they went close gotos was just the guy I mean one thing I just always loved by him a tremendous competitor he went in to beat everybody he played it was no messing around a tree everyone the same. Was the best player in Washington state when you were playing was it Isaac Fontaine Yeah he's right the fun was a killer I couldn't believe we beat him some of the time that we did but overall I think it was just a program Arizona does have this mystique about the program that sometimes those teams couldn't overcome you know what's interesting too is that Washington state over the years has had a couple fairly renowned coaches I mean Tony Bennett obviously overwash and his father and Dick Bennett and then you look at a guy like Calvin Sampson who you know is still fairly accomplished I know he's got some trouble left and right but you know he's fairly fairly accomplished there so. What is the upside at a place like Washington State if you get the right guy in there how good can you be consistently I mean there was a crew Lester before while we had Cambone in there and I will not again I will tell you I can't I thought he was not a kind of quirky Nice Guy No I like them just because he came from good information when he recruited left and how much he liked Lester you know I really maybe that's the kind of God Like you I know say any way but I was like I had so came by when he came down yes he came down here to visit Les here in Tucson and when he came down out I was told and then I thought I want to stay and I mean it's a Pac 12 schools you know I have guns I got the wind in the middle of nowhere up in Spokane Wa Can you guys the pool and I would I'm just confused about what he say Oh oh no he sleeps diffuse themselves you can get better guys why can't you do it after you said that's why I'm here trying to give us your eyesight you know and I would to me that's what you have to do you have to get away a program by grabbing a few join you kind of guy for about 4 to 6 years I think to really build your program a lot of arguments doing transfers and some junior college guys and mix them in with one of 2 top 150 he is a whatever you know and come that route but some reason to not get those kids and sometimes it happens in football and where the Washington state will get that. Middle 2nd tier l.a. Kid there's always an l.a. Kid or 2 who play who just wants to get out right and there's no you can't get further out and stay in the Pac 12 but Pullman Washington let me ask you this has Washington state produced a better pro all time than Arizona has. It's Mark Latham's right well just thrown out there I mean not to say the numbers but those in that they do or how little I know I don't obviously I mean I understand we're talking what a player really trying to give up something Ok well. He's a great player a great 2 way player I think a lot of people give enough credit for his defense that he plays but I just don't know how much I want to give that to Washington State now the question is why he isn't he helping watching state recruit guys there oh maybe years and we don't know but it's not where this heated enjoys time in Washington state but it's still the school that he came from and I just think that he should you know go out of his way to try to you know help the team be better I would agree with that come back with us us from the t. With your male clinic radio health minute I'm Tracy McRae imagine trying to live life breathing through a cocktail straw that was reality for Jill Pod and your Mo was a real labored breathing people call me Darth Vader because I was. Just walking through a storm a jail profoundly short of breath idiopathic So God explosives we used the word idiopathic because we don't know the cause so got exposed to sin and of itself is a scarring of the main windpipe right below the vocal cords Dr Erica Dell says the scarring slowly narrows the windpipe severely restricting air flow during an endoscopy surgery doctors make 3 small incisions into the scar tissue this opens the airway and restores breathing can talk I can walk I can exercise my life because the issue will likely recur Jill can have the surgery again as many times as she needs it for more information talk with your doctor or visit Mayo Clinic dot org to fashion emergency hotline help my kids just gave me an executive order for Presidents Day New Clothes now just run to Old Navy Old Navy Yep right now get up to 50 percent off store wide and an old Navy dot com through Presidents Day up to 50 percent off I vote for that me too and right now Jean started 15 bucks for adults 12 bucks for kids and he started 7 bucks for adults 5 bucks for kids $5.00 tees and jeans on sale this is huge I'm headed to Old Navy now thanks don't think me think old baby belly to $33.00 to $20.00 select those only welcome to Staples Staples guy this year I'm preparing my own taxes good for you I'm going to be accountable right Will Staples can help with storage and violence applies plus software like Quick Books and Turbo Tax on you have my interest and now get Turbo Tax for up to $15.00 off at Staples up to $15.00 off Turbo Tax that will pay handsome returns right thanks Staples guy depreciated everything you need this tax season for last like up to 15 dollars off Turbo Tax Staples make more happen in store only as for $117.00. They seem to have a more complete team back then they had a little bit of Edward Henderson at the the center fun tank coming off the screens and you had the point go at us and then it was a few more guys I remember having a great time been scouting for those guys ravaged did a lot of teams that had the great scores on the team because our coach was used to always make me to score for the other team when we when we had practice Anthony made a fairly interesting point which I'll use of telling won't here and say Hall which is rare for you Mike I'm taking you know I'm leaving thank you very much I'm of the opinion though that Washington state though you have to have a coach that might be a little bit outside the box I think that's why Tony Bennett was able to be successful there I hate watching that style of basketball where the 1st 20 wins but at least they were somewhat successful there you could say the same to a certain extent I guess under Calvin Sampson maybe even Kevin Eastman to a little to Kevin Eastman actually had a couple good years which I don't remember what so ever but do you have to have a higher up Mike Leach outside the box guy to win there yeah I think so I think because you have to have somebody big they give the kids some type of brand of basketball to make him you know latch on to so they can see that that's where I want to go play it's me up to post our Ernie can if he can get the guys in that he had like at Oregon which may be tough but if he can get some of those type of kids in there to take John Porter type guys then you'd love to want more yeah I'm into one Ok I love the way to get in some Aaron Brooks and Freddie Jones and so you got to read now as exult with Jackson because that's all it takes Yeah yeah you know I just thought for 5 years are up because they just snap his fingers and they go to Washington state but that's what it is though he has to figure out a way to get some guys in there and like again the style of play is big if you have some press and trap and an up and down according to his absinthe free flow to the game and it takes mentality right to make interest in putting kids to come there I think that's what we have to do you gotta make it a little more fun. To wake him farm brand of basketball what it is can see that they can come have and have opportunities and it definitely help. If you look at what Mike Leach doesn't football he plays a style that's that's attractive to a lot of guys especially offensively you know why just that's why the quarter to quarter backs alignment at all like a run block Yeah for all I mean who could never be in a 3 points to remember what I predicted them to finish in the top 25 this year and it didn't matter that I'd always help you but they were they were a really but I was very worried because I had 26 you did my priest good folks at Wendy's do a pretty good job there you know just looking to disappoint you know they did it that way they fizzled out there at the end I wasn't happy at all but a little early can talk he was just talking this week about you know how he's moving forward how he's going to have to replace guys like Josh Hawkinson and I correct through and guys I got it and he's talking about he needs to find different ways he needs to find maybe a kid who grew up in the West was playing the East wants to come back yeah he needs to find some j.c. Guys you need to find some guys who are just kind of pure shooters who maybe maybe in Arizona doesn't want because maybe it's one dimensional but he could have that to work in Washington staying right right like a kid that's just a shooter or write a real quick point guard that can just take the ball from one in a court to other in the force the defense they have so they can find find the actual shooters that's what he's looking for he's going to mix and match but not he would have found. Sure Oregon from northern Idaho one year left or even in football with also Cinco when he went to Arkansas they would want to hear you get when you're right you know firemen guys that are just home grief even go down the beach to like Colorado did what he found a key that kind of how to find a kid in d 2 and brought a mobile when you left you just got to go find the who wins 2000 Oregon State football or $98.00 Arizona football $98.00 come on you have to go but I'm going to be anybody I'm not going to be a fun game though bring it on because I think we had enough to compete with anybody in my defense was pretty tough. Or just a team with nasty No you had not do you guys you were going to get you have the skill guys on the team. For for that organ state I know you can name the school God Ok now I know where you're going was 2001 to be Notre Dame and I've been finish like 30 and he can be taught to write where I'll show you I probably can really know guys to follow me it was even Jackson the running back right now now can Simonton Simonton had a little 5 not good yes I would say it was the Chad Johnson I was told who he got is not longer Jonathan Smith was he the quarterback Yeah I think so he don't think so it was well there's a little there's a little trip down memory lane where we got there I like those names on our bookers Chris what a lock to OTOH already are here's what I want to be above and you don't have to go to the top of a defense to stop me it's wrong North Korea had a guy you know and we had a couple of them was to ensure a very big near you and you know what Ludlow did Barberin and yeah he's up there in Oregon State now so the n.f.l. Has a new secret Yes a good 6 year old you know right lucky and an onus I'll know and anyone with your let's talk about golf as alarming you know as like 5 or 6 guys that play to a true true true I just wanted to see if I could just get you go in there a little you know you thought I would buy b
