The man sought by police in connection with a des moines double homicide is believed to be in a standoff with Law Enforcement officials on a Dallas County highway. The Des Moines Register reports that Michael John Wanchanic is believed to be the driver of a vehicle that officers pursued for several miles along highway 141 this evening. Westbound traffic on the highway near perry was halted for hours while the standoff continued. We will bring you the latest as it becomes available. We believe he has information that will be beneficial in understanding the motive and what happened in the assistance in finding him. 39 year old michael john wanchenic is believed to be a roommate of both 36 year old bryon howard and 31 year old Heather Belieau who were found dead monday afternoon inside a home at the 39 hundred block of center street. He may be driving a 2002 beige dodge grand caravan with the license plate of d mr 234 he was a resident there also, no relation to them but obviously he knew them. Also at the scene two small children. The 2 year old was moving around when we got there , the infant was crying but none were harmed. At the des Moines Police departments request, the Story County Sheriffs Office performed a wellfare check at the trailer home of peggy reed, wanchanics ex wife in slater. Des Moines Police say they are closer to finding those responsible for a deadly shooting along court avenue early sunday morning. Police say the shooting followed a fight between two groups. 21yearold Edmanuel Perez died from his injuries. 23yearold Andrew Hurley boyd is remains hospitalized. Police say theyre interviewing several people who witnessed the shooting and are reviewing security video of the incident. The Iowa Division of criminal investigation is looking into the death of a Cerro Gordo County inmate. Just before seven this morning, a correctional officer an unresponsive male in his jail cell. Amid a firestorm of racial tension chicago mayor rahm emamuel demanded and received the resignation of the Police Superintendant he appointed garry mccarthy. However, emanuel never gave about what mccarthy had done to merit his firing. Emanuel says he has become an issue, rather than dealing with the issue, and a distraction.
