Magic here along with Freddy gold here. If you're on Sunday morning appreciate you being here with us yesterday at abstemious xcept channel he presented Progressive Insurance n.f.l. Hall of Fame occurred last night to the adduction ceremony we had I mean Ed Reed was terrific I stayed up watched that speech last night he was great touched on a lot of facets upbringing culture who you surround yourself with Tony Gonzalez Kevin why I lost who will get to in a moment but your big takeaway Byron was so much the induction ceremony it was of course what would you do to change who they're being inducted I don't know why you have to go down this route why can't we just celebrate these guys yet you want to make a change in the n.f.l. Process in terms of getting into the Pro Football Hall of Fame you know my 1st take away was why does Tony Gonzalez look that good. To be retired younger it doesn't make sense to me how is he not a superhero or some movie star at this point the guy is just deaf man tends to he can be the rock I mean him but in the rock in a movie that's the ideal outcome of the Right now Tony Gonzalez the rock of the movie I'm telling you would sell he could he could do that so that was my 1st big takeaway my other big takeaway and this isn't a knock against the guys who were nominated I believe it sounds like it's going there be and not all of you know the guys who are nominated that adult I'm of the opinion and you may disagree that you should get one chance to get into the Hall of Fame I think if you have the 1st year you're eligible you're either in or you're not I think the Hall of Fame should be reserved for the players with whom we do not have conversations about we just know you're a Hall of Famer. Now in order to do that you might have to expand the process right now the long list of candidates you know gets shrunk down to 5 and then the committee votes on the 5 you've got to get 80 percent approval from the committee in order to get in I think that should move up to something like 95 percent let's say for everybody anybody who's eligible you get 95 percent of the vote you get it because 95 percent of vote to me would say Ok There isn't a conversation about whether or not she belong in the Hall of Fame and that doesn't mean you're not a great player if you're not in I don't think the Hall of Fame has to be reserved for the greatest of the great but doesn't that also isn't it also contingent on who you're going in with like Are you saying like if you don't get in on the 1st ballot you're not in or yes saying so you have personality got one you know what you're eligible that's it some of these players door like a fine wine are they not like oh yeah he's he was good sometimes you do need you know 78101250 years to go but I didn't realise the players greatest Well I mean there's a fine line in his Martha's Vineyard right I mean there's a whole different characterization right depending on the great players versus the Hall of Fame or you can be a great player and you can be a player who people from your era go man a guy was really really good but I do feel like the Hall of Fame should be reserved for the players that 2530 years from now will still be talking about right nothing against you know anyone but who are you think are going to make sure I got it into the Hall of Fame got it last night who are you know no I don't want to serve everyone on that list deserve it but I do think my are not a good and less of the 1st or 1st your 1st year ballot and then that's it also like to me it diminishes the Hall of Fame if you have someone who's been trying to get in your after year after year I get nothing against those people I understand there are great players but would you want to be a 5th or 6 year bit 6 ballot guy like at some point you've got. Yes You either get in or you're not a yes I'd like to be a sixpenny guy for me to be a give I'll be Harold Baines if I mean some good time yeah well we gotta get rid of the herald of the Hall of Fame you get when you're eligible that year and the next your only chance to get in that would be not there which is also why I will probably never get a Hall of Fame vote or have anything to do with all voting and that's probably the safest assumption we can make. Something about it I just get radio magic along with my dad Metcalf we aren't thinking about thinking here isn't it. A story really of the Hall of Fame I declare this show right the morning right before the show like you see running the board today said he muttered You remember that that Sunday morning. Countdown to that show and n.f.l. Show. Yeah I did. Get it yeah. Sure didn't happen in 1974. Will be doing I concluded that Myron is the worst off of all of those from that last year. The listener loves in my role this is great so Matt Jones is doing some big hitter could make a run for United States Senate debating that then Alaska is a superstar you see him often on get up and other shows on e.s.p.n. And. I'm here great at the best air on t.v. And I'm here with Matt and there's nothing wrong with being here with Matt you know it's just I've noticed that maybe it is Matt maybe is this when you work with me you become the star you're supposed to be maybe that's maybe that's what happens so that means good things for you Matt appreciate that just like yeah you're not saying you want to change the Pro Football Hall of Fame because you know everyone deserved your fight here because you know you're really appreciative of where you are exactly. One thing that stood out as I do want to get to this title off when finish I read 1st what you want to do you really think really. Want to get to speak at radio that yes if it ever is. By progress Richards we are brought here by ageless male today the ridiculously fast acting nitric oxide booster that won't go unnoticed rushed to Wal-Mart and get ageless mailed snipe at your producer Don't tell me what to do all right Ty Law Hall of Fame inductee last night. He thanked Bill Belichick who was there obviously his head coach and he did what he could to kind of censor himself just talk about Bill Belichick. Ok which one do you want. This 2nd one to see the one that ends 2 steps Thank you Coach Bill Belichick the growth thank you for believing in me thank you for not trying to change who I was you gave me the opportunity to try my way 1st which you always reminded me if I mistook we going back to do it your way but the only thing he didn't say Mr I know we don't t.v. a Couple of words but you'll feel in a blaze. Thank you for showing me how to be a true professional to prepare for games is no mistake or coincidence that you are the greatest coach that this game has ever seen. So he did what he could you know it's a family we say we're on t.v. We want to make sure this was like 60 seconds later 60 seconds later he's talking about his teammates the 1st clip there about the Patriot way let's keep it real we started to. See that they. Don't get to see we don't match Bruce right in Troy Brown o.t.s. Can you for. Fun to see. That go Tom Brady. Patriot way. I see. T.v. I know we're on t.v. You guys can fill in the blanks Let's just listen to those together again these were separated by 60 seconds let's separate them by like happen. Though. It would only be to say Mr I know we'll see if you see. Your feeling about. A few moments later it. Was like that and like when you're with your friends is about his mom comes to you all polite and you like oh thank you Ms job of the day so let's hang out here and in the moment she was out cold the don't. Talk your brain let. The forgot he forgot there were a lag 2000 other people there he was talking about Bill Belichick Well I'm going to be polite I don't want to throw one of the bus about the language he used right now I'm talking to my guys. About it either one of his team mates whispered like come on man be real about it because you are doing for us even you just talking to men. We started this comma. Is probably it you just need to have a space there. Sunday morning ideas be a great August or just show up as our performance light up next speaking of the n.f.l. Which running backs have the best cases to hold out before next season Yeah we're playing a long game here on Sunday morning I.D.'s be on radio good to just raise your voice a break 1st want to go full football you don't perform you won't be in business too long Gerri thank you for making me a free agent this week. And indeed we believe a resume is appropriate way to see an overview of a candidate but you're not hiring a resume for hiring a person that's why indeed offers tools that help bridge the gap between a candidate and a resume by skill test which lets you actually see the candidates abilities in action to make sure they're a good fit for the job see beyond the resume with indeed experience indeed for yourself today and get Let's talk. About to get sick one plus one equals 2. Part of the equation. E.s.p.n. Dot com slash. And quite frankly. I'm bigger than ever. Michael Thomas he is not. Even enough to put that does he deserve that. This is going to be one of the yes but does he deserve to be the highest paid was even a bully. The most right now. By the way even though he's not going to be participating. I met him in football anything can happen. I want that off the field right now. The field right now sit on a bench and I'll say I'm here in attendance but I'm not doing a damn thing because of the $100000000.00 Michael Thomas just got $61000000.00 in guaranteed I'm sorry Michael Thomas got that what do you think Julio Jones is where I got news for you about a $20000000.00. On that right. There Stephen a smith. On the e.s.p.n. Radio e.s.p.n. And. They're. Going to talk a little bit about the. Heart of it. Is it bad when I just bring that to the table like this it's the fact we're trying to make it. A symbiotic relationship between our user discussions. Sunday morning. Had radio August or just by the shell Pennzoil performance line. Reporter had this Twitter had this anecdote about Tony Gonzalez and the anecdote reads as follows in the 4th quarter of a win against the Bucs he catches a dumb ass and explodes up feel. A tackler flies up from the secondary but cuts in side and makes a Miss linebacker closes from the inside because of the slaloms outside he feels young a quarterback tries to wrap him up but consolidate lowers his shoulders and plows him over it takes $3.00 to finally drive him out of bounds Gonzalez glances up at the replay for what he's convinced was again a 40 maybe 50 yards it was 10. I think is the best bust Tony's talk about the n.f.l. Best biggest bus use about the n.f.l. Draft back bust though is about the n.f.l. Hall of Fame and the bust that is showing displayed for the 1st time there whether they are a ducted Is there a better bust Ed Reed you know the hair every think there are some of these terms really look a lot like the guy this is an identical identical look and I pay attention to the hair because you know there's going to be some interesting hair here in the next couple glasses of the Hall of Fame I mean Larry Fitzgerald you got to get that hair right I mean so never a lot of yet not a lot of red looks in the wall of fame or long hair looks yet you're common though but they're common so ever is in charge and read boss you've got to make sure that that individual is doing this going forward because that is perfect and here's the thing about a bad boss you can't redo it I mean I guess you technically could but it's there once we see it that's it you can't go back and start all over so you better get it right they got to write what I had read now let's keep going forward and not making more mistakes and read a great anecdote about it read it was Bruce Felber had a story about him right with the. Read Only goes to retirement home for a spell and said you know he went to watch him work out for part of a story and then read like hey give me a minute and they want to shoot the photos at a retirement home because they're saying it was common old man you know mature beyond his years and they get. There and by the end of it you know these senior citizens who didn't know who he was and what he did by the end of it he's taking pictures signing autographs you know he's making new friends and fans and like that to me is that I never thought that every cared what the public the media. The fan base thought about him but if you knew him and I ever bought who knew him they they would they swear by a man they say he's the great every year there's one speech that I know I have to watch this year it was it read Bailey was also terrific I mean it was really watch the clips he was really good Sunday morning on e.s.p.n. Radio the e.s.p.n. At e.s.p.n. Radio presented by Progressive Insurance drivers who switch and save pay an average of $699.00 less per year magic along with. Speaking of the n.f.l. Hall of fame maybe he could be a Hall of Famer someday maybe Melvin Gore will be a Hall of Famer someday Right now it's just about getting them on the field and the fact is we talked about the leverage right Zeke's got 2 years left here this is where the leverage play happens 2 years of his contract this is a contract year not as much leverage he's $26.00 as $24.00 So you think about leverage Byron and you think about next year then because Mark Mellman going got terrible advice I said on the Will Cain show. Thursday that he should he should fire is Agent I don't say that off handedly I mean the fact is that he just played the game poorly the fact is the year prior. You had Todd Gurley who was taken in the same draft class as Melvin the same draft 5 spots earlier pick in 2015 versus the 15 pick in 2015 Todd Gurley last summer he got his option picked up for his 5th year you know what happened 2 months later after you got his option picked up he got a guaranteed deal he got $5000000.00 guaranteed is around the same time that they picked up the option of Melvin Gorton what he got nothing nothing. Else happened they picked up leverage is now gone it's a year later so now when we look Myron now you're not Melvin you look ahead to next summer. People liars been confused Thank you. He called me here and said I want to take a salary. When you think about next summer and who's going to be. Who's going to be 2 years out from there deal being done look at the list and you can see what next summer is going to look like the list is Alvin come our job mix Leonard Christian McCaffrey is on that list and when you think about that list it's got to be a neighbor to just stick Sachigo you know what if you are that team or you're that player you could have ton of leverage barring injury and if you're those teams you better take care of that and not have a situation or let it go a year later and have a melt in situ I think the number one down that list that you better take care of and not get to this point is crystal McCaffrey and the Panthers because you've got a guy Cam Newton who feels like he's at a pivotal year we don't know how his health hold up here in the coming years Chris McCaffrey is the focus of that team and I don't call him a running back because he can do so much more than that but I think he's the kind of guy almost 2000 yards from scrimmage last year. His 1st year I think that's the kind of guy you go make sure you pay him and make sure you don't get to a point where you have this whole situation man I think the top 345 guys at that position will always get paid everyone else good luck because that this position in the n.f.l. Has become the most replaceable position running backs I want to see the Dhamma doesn't but you can clearly get value without having a 1st round kind of talent Damon Williams undrafted 2014 with the Chiefs after cream get suspended he comes into the Chiefs were still Ok they didn't collapse. As a team Chris Carson was a late round pick number 5 rusher in the league for Seattle last year so yeah there are some great ones but clearly you don't have to have a 1st round kind of guy leader often in order to get good value and I think that's what a lot of these guys are up against including Melvin Gordon Hey Melvin you're good is what the charges are saying but we're confident that with Austin that behind you just in Jackson behind you will still be a good team and that to me is where he's in a difficult situation where as a Christian McCaffrey it's like Who are you going to get to replace him who can do what he does you've got to pay him back here on e.s.p.n. Radio Sunday morning discussing what it looks like next summer for running backs in the n.f.l. When it comes to them being 2 years out from their contract being. Expiring and having the leverage next summer's a leverage play for these running backs who were taken in the draft 2 years ago. McCaffrey Leonard format who maybe a year ago you go oh yeah you can't lose him that's a contract situation next summer with that play that will be interesting Joe Mixon if he has a big year this year and he's expected to be the bell. That'll be a fastening a want to watch Galvin cook might be a guy that doesn't have that he's been hurt he hasn't had a chance really to show how dynamic he can be but you mention in terms of replace ability it's. That is showing that you don't need that 1st or even 2nd round pick a 3rd round pick 67 overall and you'd rather have him than Al Gore. You'd rather have him and that's not doing a player like Melvin Gordon any favors and then you look at what's happening in the n.f.l. Draft next year the Pentagon where you want to draft you're going to have a travesty t.n. You're going to have a Jonathan Taylor you're going to have a De Andre Swift you know if you want to go to a.j. Deal of Boston College there are guys that are going to be there and available where you don't have to pay them $10000000.00 a year. To run the ball you can do the rookie wage scale for 5 years and bide your time and hopefully you have a good enough quarterback to win Sunday morning on e.s.p.n. Radio the e.s.p.n. Ad up next will interrupt someone's tee time to continue this conversation it's Sunday morning on e.s.p.n. Radio. With. Pay whatever it is $1516000000.00 This is an important story.
