I am 640. And welcome back to coast to coast we'll get your calls in just a 2nd with Tim Larkin Tim you talk to corporations and groups all over the country and you talk about currency of violence about prison gangs What's that all about. I did a lot of research for this last book and I one of the things I have a lot of friends in the corrections industry and I was able to get entrées to talk to some top corrections officers who were able to share with me interviews that they've done with some of the shock collars and the major gangs like the area Brotherhood Mexican Mafia but really a family and what I found out was that you know. We think that prison is this chaotic environment where random acts of violence and you find out that it's actually a very hyper rational society you know very unpleasant but it is a very rational society how they use violence and I talk about the currency of violence when I talk to these groups because what. A corporation understands is basically how to you know they want to grow and create and when I tell them that there's organizations out there where the senior management operates one hour a day is encroached rated 23 hours a day they're able to get all their messages out you know under those conditions with absolute you know to low tech and they run tens of thousands of distribution units that run hundreds of thousands of people and billions of dollars and transnational. You know distribution you know you know illegal obviously but there are so many somewhere used to where these. You know individuals are able to use that the only differentiation is a currency that they have the ability to if they have to get this done whereas a business will have you know it's cash flow you oftentimes about you know how much money on google how to put away write. Their currencies Violet's their currencies the successful use of the tool of violence and so they study that tool very objectively and very rationally and they use that and then that's how they derive their power that's how they drive their economic power. The methods that they use to that people and the message that they use to get you know distribution units taking care of being controlled is really in pretty goes back almost like the medieval gilts where your word is your bond and there were interesting situations where when a gang member from say the area Brotherhood sold drugs to the Mexican Mafia Mexican Mafia made the area brotherhood of aware of it and gave them the opportunity to take care of the problem 1st which they did which they did right away anyway it's just a very very interesting when you look at this when I was originally studying it I was like oh gee this is there's a lot of similarities but boy this would be way too controversial for me to bring up. Until I found I think was 2012 young for Young Presidents Organization was the big. Corporate Group that you had speakers come in all the time they were able to have Rene Henry gave the boxer who was a big defector from the Mexican Mafia come by and speak to their group and it was under amazing security levels but he talked about how can you build maintain and market you know a multinational corporation from from prison how can you do that because that's exactly what they do they're able to run the streets from the prisons and there are a lot of business lessons. Although the information and I tried so people all the time you know we come so say self-protection and some of these other things. Often the best information comes from the worst people and you have to be able to just sit there and say listen we're not we're not we're find these people but we're trying to get some useful information and there's actually some useful information to be had when you study you know the hierarchies and how they how they operate and how they are able to do in such a low tech environment it's amazing interesting take Ok let's go to some calls here for you let's go to Mike in Clearwater Florida to get us started Go ahead Michael Hi George how are you great. A few things I just wanted to ask your guest this wouldn't necessarily be a personal safety type situation but. I'll give you a scenario if somebody has say they're barricaded and it's so ongoing hostage situation. Now as well Mr actively you know they troll phone in there or something and the guy is actively communicating back and forth with the police they don't have a problem you know as soon as something goes wrong and he gets agitated and he says well I don't want to talk anymore and the phone up doesn't answer doesn't communicate that's when the problem starts so he said to going back to what you said earlier he. Has a social violence is that when that caller when when you hang up the phone and you stop talking with them that's when they get near him am I on the right track is that when they start getting nervous Yeah you're definitely there's a great book written in a book on negotiation but the guy Chris Voss was the lead hostage negotiator for the f.b.i. And he goes over a lot of those specific situations and what's interesting is dots with their biggest fear their biggest fear is as soon as there is a. Stop in communication because that's more money when everything goes south and so keep you know keeping the person talking the difference that we're talking about is if i social aggression which is I think of as unpleasant you know unpleasant experience you know somebody robbing you at gunpoint but they're still talking to you or somebody you know you know hostage situation as long as there's communication going on there's a potential you solve that situation when communication ends. That's when violence usually begins and that's that's one of the triggers and so it's absolutely essential in a situation like that and I don't. I'm not a law enforcement official. Trained many of them but I'm not fully qualified to talk in depth about that but I do you know that's one of biggest triggers what do you think of these little portable teasers tellme that you physically have to push against the body in order for it to work. There. I feel that a lot of tools that are out there are you know a friend of mine said like the firearm in some ways has become the remote control of self-protection and you know tasers and things of that nature meaning. If most of us today member of us if we lost our remote controlled our t.v. We have no idea how to turn t.v. On Probably not because and unfortunately what we do is get tool based when when you know we're saying Ok if I buy a gun or things take care of I bite the taser everything's taken care of a problem is if you drop the tasers it's not there you know are you are you then empty that the preferred way is to train the mind 1st. Then be able to train your primary tools that which are your body parts and then anything ancillary like a Taser something because that more is that much more effective because you're taking care of your base level of defense and you're not completely you know without. Any ability to protect yourself if you drop the tool or not the other tools not available or they grab it away from you absolutely. Let's go to Donna Benson North Carolina hi Donna welcome to the show I don't care which well that you 2 team I wanted a shit Christian I'm the one there I'm not a car. And somebody gets in a airway and a knife or a yank or. They drop what do I do. As does she drive or watch she's got a knife in her side they're damn. Well part dart the hard fast truth is I don't want them take you anywhere you don't want them they called us you know taking you secondary crime scene give almost give them the car you give the car do you doubt you would ever you can get out of the court at that point you don't want to do you know what people talk about you know the ideas Well I just complied though they won't stop me or they will cut me or don't do these things that's that's not proven out you know usually what happens is they're taken to a place that's more remote and that's where it's all going to happen and yet many many people tell me their stories of going seconders crime scenes those that have been able to survive it and there are some horrific you know stories about that but . Everybody will say it's unpleasant as this answer is you know that's where you want to make your stand he want make your stand right then and there because they're saying if they're telling you they want you to drive away it's because they don't want to do whatever they want to do their. Ted Bundy the serial killer the late serial killer used to pretend he had a broken arm and he would fumble around with his books and he would have women help him they'd feel sorry for him and he'd get them in his car and then each smack him on the head with a wrench or something knock a mountain and do is dastardly with things and then he kill and you don't you're right you don't want to be in the car yours or there's got to get a mile Let's go next Donna thanks for your call it's go to Ted in Queens New York Ted go ahead. Some years back I made a mistake I'm going and she would deserve the subway station on Manhattan. Guy came up to me had a My She appeared very nervous his voice when he was telling me to give him the reins I was very very shrill kind of shaking a little bit and also the mice that he was holding in front of me but his hand seemed to be trembling only shrinking I don't know if he was doing that because he was nervous or yes thought of he kept moving the life around me less chance for me to grab it in research so what I did I complied I gave him the rang and basically he just took off what I'm a senior now I'm in my late sixty's and I know what a lot of seniors do I mean I've been talking to they carry around proper spray the odd thing about pepper spray I want to chew a police officer and I said What's the story with prep a sport you know you were allowed to carry out what he told me was You're allowed to have a push right in your home to protect against home invasion but it's it's an offense I don't know what the punishment would be I guess I'm sort of fine if you're carrying it on the street and I thought that was a very odd that was in New York I guess yeah in New York interesting Tim But what does he do on something like that. Well I can tell you that it would be worth carrying a cup or spray but you know the the the beauty of the Internet today is the fact that we have so many. So many have objective crime scene scare o
