Northern Colorado traffic traffic still in decent shape throughout Northern Colorado this morning still have that bit of a trouble spot however just popped up a few minutes ago on I 25 this in those northbound lanes now right at $34.00 extending north to just south of the Crossroads Boulevard exit additional slow and go right around Highway 60 again in those the northbound lanes north of $68.00 south of $42.00 if you are headed down to the Denver Metro this morning a lot of the earlier problems we had this morning have eased up considerably still have a trouble spot just south of 144 the extending in the southbound lanes to just north of 120 at ease as picks up again in those southbound lanes just north of 76 Meanwhile back up in northern Colorado to 87 college through Fort Collins looking good as the shields and tapped no major issues on like in Cleveland Eisenhower just a bit of a glitch westbound right at Boyd Lake Ave and meanwhile over on 34 East of 25 you got some so I would go particularly in those old westbound lanes right around Centerra Parkway this as a result of that glitch in those northbound lanes of I 25 again not westbound to a county road 13 eastbound to at county road 1710th Street and really just zip and ride along in great shape this morning over on the bypass just a bit of a glitch westbound right around 47 that the new Meanwhile over on 85 just a few trouble spots right around Highway 14 in those southbound lanes again southbound at Highway 66 this traffic update brought to you by excess Teri's with a flare and tear and downtown Greeley because we all know life is just too darn short to wear boring clothes. C.r.p. 4 by 4 studios this is mornings with 1310 j.f.k. . Thanks to you and community action collaborative a very innovative a program ensures that help indeed it is on its way 8 o 8 now 1310 k. F. K. At 1310 k. F. K. a Dot com morning so gale from the c.r.p. 4 by 4 studios joined this morning by Jamie Clapper She's a licensed professional counselor at North range behavioral health and Deron converts and who is a Grilli Fire paramedic thanks so much for taking the time and certainly do appreciate it now tell us a little bit about Squad One squad one is a part. Of a part part of 100 day push is what we did to try to impact our top 125 utilizers of the 911 system it was very successful and what we do is we collaborate together with multiple agencies Greeley fire Greeley Police the local hospitals as well northern Colorado Health Alliance to try to divert people to the correct resource to get the help that they need so what who are the top 25 years or so of the system. The well it was $125.00 is kind of what we were leaving . King out of a 125 Ok I'm sorry and they're usually people who are contacting one on one for next not necessarily the appropriate. Reason So a lot of our our people that we have worked with and we continue to work with are people who have mental health concerns where it's not necessarily appropriate to go to a hospital but maybe getting engaged in services through North range behavioral health or any actually counseling agency that might be a better response for them in terms of helping them deal with their mental health concerns as well as people who might be calling 911 for dental pain right where that's not necessarily the appropriate response so diverting them to the correct clinic things of that nature so this is a people's hue to determine a hierarchy of importance and Deron I can't help but think that as the Greeley Fire paramedic that resources are very precious and you're stretched thin so this enables you to better utilize those resources right yes and more importantly to leave the services in place for true emergencies is with us so is this part of a statewide effort. It isn't at this point it's more Greeley the city of Greeley identified this and wanted to attempt to eliminate some of the improper usage so they formulated and got together with the collaborative to figure out how they can do that and that's how the squad was I guess birthed now I can't help but think that part of the genesis of this program is because we're seeing a growing thriving population in Greeley now along with that there comes an increase and 911 calls Yes Correct yeah so. How does this program actually. Work I mean it's like a real time to terminations right yes yes it happens we get we can get referrals from different agencies so we can get referrals directly from the fire department or green weeklies we can also get them from in c.m.c. Are our collaborating agencies North range and Northern Colorado Health Alliance as well as the local libraries. That are calling to say they may just mention somebody and say hey could you guys check on these people they may not have the appropriate resources in order to get what they need for help and so we get referrals that way we also respond to 911 calls. Part of the overall thrust it would seem would be ongoing education would be an apartment Yes important component right yes absolutely I mean sometimes it's just a matter of you can have an individual calling because. You know I can't reach this item I can't get to this item Well we can help kind of bridge those gaps in order to be able to get them the appropriate home health care may be your own or look into what their insurance may provide in order to help them get the mechanisms in place that might help them get difficult items they can't reach or might might do those things they may just not know it's an awareness campaign essentially Yeah and based on your experience what would you say your level of success has been. I We're still tracking our level of success of but in terms of call data we have decreased 1000 calls hasn't been Yeah the overall call volume has decreased 1000 calls over last year of that probably were responsible for about 300 of those calls that have actually been a success of and this is the result of basically giving people the tools the information particularly when they find themselves in mental health crisis or there's a substance abuse issue whatever the case may be in order to reach out to an appropriate manner correct yes. So. When you look at the future of the program where do you see it going. From our agency perspective and along with our our team is we're looking at more preventative sorts of things now that we understand that we are decreasing calls we are diverting appropriately to the right services What does prevention look like more long term and so that might require us following up more frequently with certain people just to make sure that they are engaged in appropriate services it can be that's I guess that's my biggest concern is I would like to see a lot of our mental health concerns they're not solved with one visit you know and they're not solved with one hospitalization So how do we help prevent them from falling back into the emergency system what can we do to further them along and sometimes that's just a matter of us showing up 2 or 3 times just to make sure hey have you engaged in this service what can we do to make that a little bit more successful for you or what are your concerns about engaging in treatment and try to help deal with stigma as well as help that's always a key component of the conversation because that's I think an ongoing struggle to overcome stigma that prevents so many of us from reaching out and asking for assistance when we need it so how do you overcome that so a stigma I think has to deal with a lot of misunderstanding about what mental health is. A lot of people equate mental health with crimes but really individual mental health condition they're people who have mental health concerns are more likely to be a victim of a crime. And not necessarily engage in criminal activity so the idea was stigma is information providing information and. Ending about that in terms of people seeking individual services for themselves it's a matter of helping them understand that their mental health concerns are an ongoing process it's not going to go away just because you feel that you're good now in air quotes you know right because it's an up and down it's a process life interferes Sometimes you may be doing just fine and then I could be sober for 200 days right and then another life crisis situation occurs and I'm probably going to fall back on the thing that I'm most used to having to deal with medication yeah and so that's a part of it and you know not to fall into cliche but life happens while you're making other plans right. Now what is the benefits that you have seen Derren as a result of this I think it's more of compassion and building building relationships people are a little apprehensive about coming forth with information like what is there their biggest hurdle or their their biggest obstacle and so building those relationships and having compassion and understanding and then help guiding and directing them I think are the biggest things that make this program huge success so help me I mean break this down I get to ask the dumb questions that's my job so. The squad one program essentially this is. A collaborative effort but it's a mental health professional basically responding along with 1st responders with Greeley fire paramedics correct and then we have a 3rd member of the team which is a care coordinator from Northern coral Health Alliance so depending on whatever that emergency is that we're walking into we're able to wrap them with resources help them whether it's the mental. Side or it's the medical side the paramedic side I can deal with the here and now current emergency whatever treatment that made mean and then the ongoing care comes from the northern Colorado Health Alliance getting them connected so we are able to wrap them with resources Jamie Clapp is a licensed professional counselor with North range behavioral health down Konrads and the is a Greeley Fire paramedic I've got so many more questions for you Could you stick with us for another segment sure that would be great more on squad one coming your way and just a few 18 now 1310 k. Northern Colorado traffic the Ord Tuesday morning commute winding down in fairly good shape this morning now those earlier issues we had northbound at right around 34 this morning on I 25 have resolved to as has that bit of a glitch between Highway $60.00 and $4.00 o 2 traffic pretty much free flowing I $25.00 throughout Northern Colorado if you're headed down to the dam or Metro the trouble spot you have is right around the 100 and forth traffic pretty much add a standstill in those southbound lanes to $87.00 college to port Collins looking good as this Lincoln Cleveland dies an hour just a little bit a slowing just west of 25 and those of westbound lanes on Eisenhower as you approach Boyd like Avenue Meanwhile over on 34 East of 25 things that eased up considerably only real trouble spot is both directions right around county road 13 so it's to issues up on harmonies because east of 25 west of to 57 but directions but eastbound lanes particularly bog down 10th Street and really looking good as it is for the most part the bypass just a bit of a glitch eastbound to at 83rd Avenue 85 in decent shape with the exception of some slowing just north of beaten in those the northbound lanes again northbound south of the South southbound at Highway 66 this traffic update brought to you by accessories weather player and hair in downtown Greeley because life's just too darn short to wear boring clothes your channel to pinpoint weather forecasts to meteorologist Chris timer says sunny skies abound today expect ties around $88.00 lows in the mid fifty's tonight right now warming up nicely throughout Northern Colorado with it $71.00 degrees Loveland $68.00 Greeley and in Fort Collins It's $72.00 degrees this is Kevin Carr of fact guys. At the movies and you're listening to mornings with Gail on 1310. Down 13. 1310 k. At k. Dot com reporting this morning that h. Ross Perot has died at the age of 89 as our conversation continues with Jamie Clapp who is a licensed professional professional counselor at North range behavioral health and Deron Conrad son Greeley Fire paramedic we're talking about a squad one which is a truly innovative program that is making such a difference particularly when it comes to the volume of 911 calls and how those are dealt with in the most effective manner and I wanted to ask you because before the break this morning we were talking a little bit about how you basically formed a hierarchy of response but part of it is also an educational process as well because you had a den of fide what a group of 125 who were using that system perhaps not for the reasons that it was intended so when you do get that call and you determine that it is. Best assigned to squad one I'm curious what is the response when you arrive. For the for are you asking for the how the patient or yes client is actually yes so I would think you know I think for the most part most of our clients are very receptive very open to. Hearing listening to what we have to say and direction. Because they're they're also looking for a solution to the current problem whatever that may be so you have very receptive I think at this point yeah I would say that as well one of the great things that we have that is part of collaboration is 24 hour crisis center which so many all the time in downtown Greeley at 12812th Street and I think it's important just that people know they always have access to talk to somebody and they can call in any point and be able to talk with them and I think initially when we respond to squad for a lot of people they may not know that may not know that hey and stead of calling 911 I can talk to a therapist on the phone I don't necessarily have to have this face to face thing. I know that some clients are very intimidated they understand why pair medicine is there they understand why maybe Medicaid is their Medicaid assistance but they're not really quite sure why I'm there so. Like you're there to provide all that it should about all the services and programs available to them right and so I think that's a part of like when I call 911 I'm not expecting a counselor I'm not expecting a therapist and so a lot of the responses I can get are like you know I'm not crazy I'm fine and I'm like well I'm just here is a resource just here to provide some extra services for you maybe answer some questions and I think that that. I think that would be my typical response. But overall clients call 91 when they are in crisis patients or in. Crisis and they want help and so they do they're willing to hear
