What ended in gunfire all started when Police Spotted orth speeding and running red lights throughout cedar rapids down first avenue near coe college. He goes the wrong way when Police Stopped the chase. But the sirens go on again when police find orth in this alley between centerpoint road and daniels street. After the officers shot orth they held him down to control him. But orth walked free for more than three months before linn county attorney Jerry Vandersanden obtained the iowa dcis report. Thats when he charged orth with five counts assault on a peace officer, interference with official acts, owi and two counts of eluding. Vandersanden cleared officers Jeremy Depies depeees and Brandon Tinta tentuh saying orths actions put them in danger. State investigators today cleared a Waterloo Police officer of wrongdoing in the shooting of a suspect last week. The Attorney Generals Office says the shooting was justified because the suspect was driving toward the officer at a high rate of speed. The officers name is not being released because of his position with a drug task force. A federal case involving the theft of ancient human remains plea deal. Deal. The case centered on remains disturbed at the Effigy Mounds National monument in allamakee county. It is the site of ritual burials by native americans. Former superintendent of the site, 76yearold thomas munson, faces federal charges of stealing human remains he was supposed to preserve. Although hes expected to plead guilty to a lesser charge, prosecutors say this case sends a message. The department of justice vigorously enforces these laws that protect native american heritage, as does the National Park and weve been very pleased with their cooperation and partnership throughout this investigation.
