As you mentioned, there were two campus wide hawk alerts sent today one regarding the three incidents of groping and the other for man assaulting a woman near the dorms. According to the university of iowa police, the incidents happened around the ui hospital, main library and hospital ramp 4. The suspect was involuntarily committed to the university of iowa hospitals and clinics. The suspect. We wont know what those are until the investigation is complete. Tonight, well have reaction meanwhile, Iowa State University police are investigating the death of one of their students. They say a man was found dead by Railroad Officials near tracks last night. Foul play is not suspected and the identity of the student is not being notified. New tonight at six, six,colder weather on the way means theres now extra concern for the people who are homeless in cedar rapids. Rapids. Today, local agencies serving the homeless, came together to come up with a winter sheltering plan for emergency overflow beds for shelters. In fact 14agencies have been working together for the past three months to coordinate the plans. Everyone has something to offer even if they cant provide overflow theyve got great ideas and other resources. Resources. Those at todays meeting do, however, say anyone who is intoxicated or high on drugs is not allowed in any shelter anytime a year. Local experts say heroin deaths are increasing across the country and here in eastern iowa. The concerning trend is prompting the conversation between law enforcement, the court system, Health System and treatment programs. Programs. If we begin to talk about what are the needs, how do we begin to make some modifications in assisting with detox, so that they have a fighting chance at getting clean and and learning the tools to do that longterm, i think its amazing. Wearing flipflops, Karla Hoffman traveled 59 blocks in honor of her husband rick who died from the disease at age 59.
