She joins us now live, stephanie whats going im live at coe college right now where . . . . . . . . . . . . Cedar Rapids Police are currently investigating a situation at 1st ave. Ne and coe rd. Police tell cbs 2 news the incident started as a traffic stop and police are investigating whether there may have been shots fired. Police were called to several locations near coe college around 1 15 tuesday morning. Our crew at 1st ave. Ne and coe rd says firefighters had to extract a crpd officer from what appeared to be an had crashed. Police tell tell cbs 2 news the traffic stop began around center point rd. And e avenue. When the officer went to talk to the suspect, the suspect attacked the officer; police would not explain how the officer was attacked. After the attack, the suspect got back into his car, hit the accelerator and tboned the officers vehicle before crashing into four parked cars. The officer was extracted from his vehicle and transported to a local hospital. He is expected to recover. The suspect was taken to saint lukes; his condition is unknown. Coe college will not be open to students until mid morning. Drivers are asked to avoid the area of coe college during the investigation. Witnesses say the driver was . Not seriously hurt. Overnight as well just before 2 this morning firefighters arrived to a car that crashed into a tree at wiley boulevard and first avenuethey pulled out at least two victims from the suv one extraction took over an hour. Both people were taken to the hospital with life threatening injuries. Cbs 2 news spoke with witnesses who were on the scene. One person died in a two vehicle crash monday on interstate 380. It happened northbound in between urbana and center point. Witnesses told the iowa state patrol a car drove onto the shoulder then veered left across both lanes. Thats when it was hit by a semi. The semidriver was not injured. The name of the driver killed has not been right now theres a statewide discussion on school bus safety. Just last week a car plowed into the back of a school bus near springville. The driver of that car died. One student inside the bus went to the hospital and is okay. Happening right now this morning an Iowa School District is testing new recommendations to install seat belts on school buses. When this school bus leaves on its routes starting monday take sot todd liston, 09 45 04 today marks our first day of our test of a bus fully equipped with lap and shoulder seatbelts. Students from several schools using this one bus will have to wear seatbelts as part of a study by des moines public schools. Director of transportation todd liston says while the national Highway Traffic Safety Administration suggests all school buses have seatbelts sot todd liston, much safer they are or how kids work with them. Steffi one thing the school will be looking for in its study is how students respond to having to put a seatbelt on.
