I've got a friend called Emily Farris soon after came the 2nd e.p. Titled how to carve a carrot into a rose she took her band overseas with a condensed back catalogue called the double e.p. a Sea of split peas that's a tongue twister finally in 2015 Barnett released the album Sometimes I sit and think and sometimes I just sit which over time ended garnering worldwide critical acclaim and since then Barnett collaborated with Kurds. While for a full length record in 2017 titled lot of sea lice and in September of this year Barnett released a double single with everybody here hates you and small talk on her label that song was everybody here hates you that we heard the line up includes Courtney Barnett on guitar and vocals Bone Sloan on bass Dave muti on drums and Dan Luscombe on the keys and then rewinding before Courtney we heard a track from another studio session artist with Vermont based folk songwriter Sam Amidon I hope I'm pronouncing that correctly and his song rain and snow taken from Sam's 3rd album that was released back in 2010 the album showcased some of Sam's radical reworkings of traditional folk tunes with Chamber Orchestra arrangements by composer Nico Muhly instrumental contributions from Shazad ease a melee and guest vocals by Beth Orton and further back we heard a track from local Denver bluegrass band Johnny mules and their tune stranger now k.g. And you d.j. Seana Sprouse interviewed the band for a live studio session on April 15th of 2017 which can be found and streamed on after f.m. Dot com The band dropped their debut full length project in December of 2016 and the band incorporates elements of classical blues and folk music within their own bluegrass sound and finally our 1st feature was from another older studio session artist with space face a psychedelic rock band based out of Memphis Tennessee that Cern that song we heard to start our set was single star d.j. Indra got to interview the band back in November of 2017 single star was released as a single on June 17th of this year now it's time to turn the page into our next sleepless nights chapter later today k g n u. We concluded our local spotlight arise music festival playlist with a big headlining local act that performed at arise with Boulder trio sun squad and their song polar bear that is the last song off their newest full length studio record instinct which dropped in January of this year the album sees the addition of Josh Fehrman on the bass and synth instinct also features the new features new special collaborators including Nick girl lock on saxophone and Spencer Anderson on violin also known for his work in Chris Alice and Chris Carnes for his work and also known for his work in pretty lights on the turntables and then we also heard Jason hand for a collaborator on that project 2 from the string cheese and from the String Cheese Incident on percussion. Just before that we heard block in my head from 10th Mountain Division another Colorado act that hit the stage at arise music festival the song was from the latest sophomore project called in good company which came out last year the band began as a duo with founder Winston where go on mandolin and m.j. Women on electric and acoustic guitar 10th mountain division dedicated their early years to writing and playing bluegrass until later shifting their sound to a bit more of a rock influence throughout its preliminary years finding their roots in college and playing with many different lineups the band finally found their permanent lineup in May of 2017 with the addition of bassist and vocalist Andrew Cooney. And we began our arise music festival playlist with a 6 piece during go based bluegrass band live or down the river and their song Colorado River pulled from the 6 tenth's debut studio album Life You Love that was released in April 2016 all throughout life you love Livre down the river include influences of funk jam and rock within their bluegrass songwriting and that was our special arise music festival playlist featuring all local bands and artists that k.g.
