Its the heartstopping moment after a rafter is thrown out of the boat. We hear from him and the daring hero who dove into the water to save him. That took a lot of courage for someone to dive in the water. And this one, as well, again, in the aftermath of the tragedy of glee star Cory Monteiths loss. How does the show he starred on go on . Were going to have new details ahead. So many shows have grappled with it this year. Another star has been indeed. And also, we told you about maroon 5 frontman, adam lavigne. We found his angel. And now, we have the first pictures of the gorgeous Engagement Ring he gave to his fiancee. But we begin with the shocking trial of the cleveland mother who has been charged with murdering her fiance, by poisoning his iced tea with antifreeze. She allegedly miss sonned his drinks over weeks. Reporter shes the mother of two, accused of a murder so devious, it fooled police for years. This morning, the prosecution will keep laying out its case against 24yearold Holly Mcfeeture, the cleveland woman is accused of slowly poisoning her fiance, by spiking his favorite raspberry iced tea with antifreeze. In the summer of 2006, when the couple lived in this unassuming home with their children, matthew podolak, a navy veteran and a father got violently ill. A few days later, the 31yearold died. Back then, the coroner ruled he died of chronic intoxication by ethylene glycol. Four years later, police got a tip. And the new coroner changed that cause to homicide. Mcfeeture was charged for aggravated murder and contaminating a substance for human consumption. On wednesday, friends took the stand, portraying him as a funloving guy that rarely drank. And was deeply in love with mcfeeture. But they also painted the couples relationship as volatile. Two friends testified they had become so concerned, they advised him to change the beneficiary of his Life Insurance from his girlfriend to the father. Podolak refused to do so. And on his death, mcfeeture collected his Life Insurance policy and his 401 k , without paying for any of the funeral costs. Earlier in the week, the jury heard tearful testimony from his dearest friends. What did you do after learning of his passing . I was absolutely distraught. What was your reaction . I almost fell down. I was in complete shock. Reporter and Holly Mcfeeture says that shes not guilty. But now, its up to a jury to decide if shes an innocent mom or a murderer who killed one sip at a time. Elizabeth . Gio, thanks so much. And lets bring in abc news chief Legal Affairs anchor dan abrams for more on this case. This is the battle of two coroners. The defense maintains the victim killed himself. But would have to have drunk the antifreeze all at once. Right. If this was done over a long period of time, thats a problem for the defendant, and thats the prosecutions theory here. The coroner is saying, that this was chronic ingestion of the poison. Over months. A little bit at a time. Who would kill themselves doing it a little bit at a time . The defense is going to call its own coroner to say, no, no, no. I think actually this occurred much more quickly. All at one time, in fact. That would support the defenses theory. How do you prove the differences between those two . It depends on which coroner the jurors believe. Thats why some of the other witnesses you just heard about become so important, which is the sort of why she would have done this. The human side behind this. And those are really crucial. But in the end, this case is going to come down to, do they believe the coroner . It takes them a while to file these charges. Five years before they went to trial. Does that mean the prosecutions case has problems or holes . Look, it means they didnt feel they had a case back then. And they actually changed the cause of death. So, the coroner basically saying that initially i was uncertain. Then, he gets calls from friends and family members of his saying, you got to look into this. We think we know exactly what happened here. And so, he looks into it. Then, this theory develops that this was this chronic poisoning. And the defense puts the victim on the stand in an essence, saying he had gambling debts, that he felt suicidal. We dont know theyll take the stand. We do know theyre going to put him on trial. Theyre going to say he had real problems, there were real issues, and thats whey he wanted to commit suicide. Well have more on the story as it develops, dan. Thank you very much. Were goin video we just saw. A dramatic whitewater rescue, as a tour group going down some very large rapids. One is thrown from the raft. Luckily there was someone there who knew exactly what to do. The other hits the water hard. Apparently knocked unconscious. He begins to float downriver. Thats when experienced river guide russ cole jumps into action. The water raging around them, cole manages to pull the man to a rocky embankment. For a while there, cole said it wasnt looking good. After i yelled to him a couple of times, i could tell he wasnt turning over. He had his bell rung seriously. Reporter after a few moments on the river bank, the man comes to, dazed and confused. The first thing he said to cole . I said, you went over a waterfall. We warned you not to do it. He said, i had fun. At the end of the day, he said he was coming back. Reporter so, why did the man go overboard to begin with . Well, cole says it appears he forgot an important rafting rule, to hold on. For Good Morning America, john muller, abc news, new york. But popping prozac to get up and xanax to come down every day felt more like a prison, than a panacea. I was at my physicians office. And i said, help me get my life back. He said, you need to smoke a joint. I took a hit off of it. I was smiling and happy. I was like, this is really great. Reporter but critics might say, yes, you are high. I was definitely medicated. But i will tell you, that i felt better having two puffs of cannabis at that time, than i had ever had any kind of results with pharmaceuticals. Reporter cheryls daughter, amy, agrees. I felt like my mom was checked out on prescription pills. It was like living with a zombie. When she would smoke, she was smiling. She was connecting with us. It felt like we had our mom back. Reporter medical marijuana is now legal in 18 states. But parenting and pot . Still taboo. You know there are people out there thinking, mothers who smoke pot are bad moms. Im going to tell it from the point of view of my 10yearold child. When im in pain, im in bed for days. I dont talk. Im miserable. My son will come up to me and say, mom, its time to medicate. He means, go get some cannabis. Come back to us. Thats what i tell you. Your 10yearold child is okay with it, i think adults should be okay with it. Its a controversial story. But you know, there was a headline recently, that more women in america are dying of Prescription Drug overdose than anything else, than anyone else. So, these moms maintain that marijuana used responsibly, is a safer alternative. We should point out, pot is a prescription in california. Many of them arent.
